Cmon man if u think about it, theres no way pump faking after you have given up your dribble can be a travel. When the player stops his dribble, as long as he takes no more steps he is within the rules, during that sequence he can pump fake, fake the pass, go str8 up whatever. The reverse pivot works well for big centers ie. shaq and all the others of old, because it gives them good position between the defnder and themselves to make a good attempt at the bucket. If a center couldnt fake at this point to get his defender out of position or offbalance then there would be almost no point to the move.

Re: POTD!
It's not a travel to pump fake after picking up your dribble, but it IS a travel to not get rid of the ball after you take your two (or even one) step. They are talking about how the players are picking up the dribble, "pro hopping," and then pump-faking instead of shooting or passing. You are allowed 2 steps (or 3 depending on who you are) but you can't just take the two steps without getting rid of the ball.... That is a travel.Comment

Re: POTD!
Giving up your dribble and the pro hop are 2 different things. A jump stop is slightly different from the pro hop used in NBA Live.
Most people agree that you get 1.5/2 steps after picking up your dribble while on the move. If you take these steps, it is a common practice to jump for a layup/dunk or shot after the 2 steps. If you just stop dribbling without taking the steps, it's not an issue.
The prohop replaces the normal 2 steps. In the NBA rulebook, it speaks about a "2 count rhythm". The prohop has to fit within the 2 count rhythm, but it is commonly used in place of the 2 steps. This is what the rule change reflects.
A jump stop is legal when not going back up. A jump stop is similar to a power dribble in that the ball isn't in yoru hands when both feet leave the ground. That's why you don't have to go back up.
With the prohop(often used by Kobe and Tracy), the ball is generally in the ball carriers hand as he hops to position feet or split defenders.
This hop is only legal by the 2 count rhythm rule in the NBA. That is why it is called a pro hop by EA. In NCAA, it is a travel because they have the 1.5/2 step rule written.
Shaq just gets away with a travel. It's still a travel. They don't call it, but it's a travel. Can't change the refs non call, but the rule is the rule.
I may understand it incorrectly, but I've had this discussion with many people that have played many levels of bball and this is the way I understand it. Help me out if I'm misunderstanding.Comment

Re: POTD!
No your perfectly right...there is a difference between the prop hop as EA puts it and the jump stop. However we are talking about Shaqs move in the point which is neither of those...it is a variation of the power dribble and when he does it its not a travel unless he shifts his pivot foot while trying to get added position after stopping. Usually he is called for that. He was called for it a good many times last season but the move when done properly is not a travel and in the video it was done properly.Comment

Vids looked good but it seems like players are walking after the bunny hop. In real life if you do a bunny hop you have to shoot or pass right after, but in the vids players are stoping and pump faking after.

Yeah great looking and great idea that move, but a few travels have been spotted.Comment

Re: POTD!
Has anyone seen a travel called (if there was one)? I know Live last year called travels if you picked up your dribble and then did a freestyle move, which I thought was pretty cool....
Maybe it's the same with the prohop - depending on your timing or what you do after the move, you will sometimes get a traveling call.Comment
