Stoopid thought...... (I know this is not a wishlist thread)
If EA could make a marriage for NBA Live/Elite (whatever ya'll are now a days) with NCAA Basketball (since ya'll got exclusive rights) with what you have done with Madden/NCAA Football then that could be a foundation to build on!!!

    Take this Idea EAAAAAAAAAA

Years back my thought was that competition was a necessity to fuel enhanced quality of product in the marketplace. With that being said, while I would still love to see other interpretations of the game of basketball, the lack of a competitive EA product hasn't hurt the offerings provided by 2K Sports, as NBA 2K has continued to evolve as an entity.

I still think that competition can help bolster these markets, but games like MLB the Show and EA's NHL series have convinced me that developers can enhance quality independently -- which is a good thing.

That being said, if EA can put together an offering on basketball that can rival and push NBA 2K, then the ultimate winners will be the gamers who live to play
Basketball made me the man I am today; Arthritic and Bitter...

      What I think I think:
      • Y'know, I've never played less NBA 2K than I did with NBA 2K12
      • Sports VG titles were REALLY disappointing in 2011-12
      • Thank Heaven for ME3 and Arkham City -- saved my winter

EA should forget about basketball and work on perfecting their two football games. They will never be able to compete with 2K in basketball.

I might understand what Moore said(maybe I'm wrong). It seems EA thinks Real Time Physics is for the next-gen, and applied RTP to FIFA 12 successfully. Main problem is RTP is not close at the level of Euphoria Engine though. Then it takes time to develop RTP for us to have acceptable results like Euphoria's and things other than gameplay in itself.

Fifa 12 RTP was a success, but its horrible, some many weird things happen that demo was unplayable for me

I don't necessarily need EA to make a basketball game that's better than 2K. I just want them to give me a viable alternative that I can play when I'm not playing 2K. Live 10 didn't have everything 2K10 had, but it was a solid alternative that I'd play whenever I took a break from 2K10. I like having two basketball games that I can play throughout the season.

That was what I was waiting for Elite, it's a different and interesting option if it's done properly, that's why I'm hoping EA doesn't dump that project.

I think EA has a huge opportunity to reinvent itself. I unfortunately never got to play Live 10 (other than the demo) but from what I've read the game had a very solid foundation going.

I feel that EA needs to take the same approach that FIFA has taken vs PES. PES has a cult following for it's sim experience just like 2k does but to me FIFA was just the smoother, better feeling (and looking) game. I could tweak it into a great sim experience but I couldn't get rid of the crappy feeling of PES even if certain elements of it's gameplay were decidedly better than FIFA.

If EA can produce an ultra smooth playing and looking NBA game they're going to instantly capture everyone who complains about the hard to adjust-to feel of NBA 2k. Not to mention the guys who would buy both just for the change of pace.

The other thing that they need to make sure they do is to release the most bug free game they can. Over the years 2k has become known for releasing games with one or often multiple game-breaking bugs. In recent years they've been able to fix some of these things via patches but it can get extremely frustrating to have to essentially beta test the game for them.

I've played every single 2k game extensively and I can vouch for how frustrating it can be to have this almost perfect game in your hands that has this one or two huge issues that drastically reduce your enjoyment.

I think 2k13 is going to come out extremely strong but if they fail to eliminate their typical crowd pisser off'ers, EA has a more than legit chance to compete.

EA has zero chance to ever compete with 2K unless they buy the license. That is the only way they will compete is by killing the comp.

As long as 2K continues to make 2K basketball, they will have the IT product in town and many many many many know this.

EA can have a good game and it will still not matter.

It means a lot to me that EA quit on basketball for 2 years now and that will lead me to believe that they are not even confident in their ability to not look foolish vs 2K

Canceling a game because of the demo. WOW

                    That spoke volumes to me

EA just needs to go on the 2K forum and here at the OS forum to get their inspiration. If EA can provide a solid online experience and present a MyPlayer/Be a Star mode like they do in their NHL game, then they are on their way.

2K's problem is that they have built in all these animations that take control away from the gamer. College Hoops 2K8 was a fantastic game that was a joy to control, fast forward to NBA 2K12 and all the additional animations have cluttered up the control you have over your player.

Release NBA Live/Elite 2013 with few bugs, solid online play, and a MyPlayer/Be a Pro mode, and see how many gamers switch back/over to EA.

Therin lies the problem. I'm not bashing the people at EA that actually WORK on the games. I'm bashing people much much much higher up. It's not about inspiration. It's about sales and profit. I think you have two entities at EA Sports and I believe one entity has ALL the power while the other has none. Those are the Devs and the C-level people (the shirts and ties at EA). I believe the devs for the most part want to create a game that even us here at OS will rave about, but I believe for them to be able to do that, the shirts and ties have to get on board with that which I don't think happens. Now you cannot really compare the basketball situation to the football situation. The reason why EA puts out a decent NHL, Fifa and at times basketball product is because the internal spotlight at EA is not on them the way it is on Madden. Yes I know, you'd think that because everyone on those top floors have thier eye on Madden that youd get a great football game, but its the opposite. Its thier cash cow for EA Sports, therefore the higher ups want to control it as much as possible, and thats why you get a severly subpar football title vs thier other sports titles. Sure you can then ask then how come Elite was so bad that it got pulled. It's simple, not even EA can put on the self such a broken big laden title. Couple that with the fact that 2kSports has been destroying them on the basketball front and they cannot just strongarm them out with $$$$, EA had no choice. I mean check it.... imagine this.....

...imagine if last year's demo for Madden was as jacked up and bad on the same level as Elite was. Do you think EA would have canceled it for the year? HELLLZZZZ NO! And do you know why? Simple, enough of the general market would buy it anyways because they need their NFL Fix, they are familiar with the Madden brand, they don't look as deep into a game as we do, AND..... drumroll....its the ONLY NFL TITLE IN TOWN. It could have gotten super bad reviews like a 3 or 4 from IGN, a Meta Critic score of 35 and it still would have flown off the shelves which means transactions which is $$$$ to the shirts and ties at EA. No way they would have pulled it like they did Elite.

So back to the basketball... Imagine this... Imagine if EA a few years ago had signed a long term multi-year exclusivity deal with the NBA. I would bet you my salary for the next 5 years Elite would not have been scrapped. That unplayable, poor, bug-ridden excuse for a basketball title would have been on the assembly line getting shrink wrapped and shipped to stores. I promise you, had EA had the rights tot he NBA, Elite would have not been pulled. You would have have had to deal with one NBA title, and it would have been just as bad as the demo and EA still would have made a windfall of cash off of it. Competition is what canceled the game. Point blank. If EA could buy the NBA rights, they would and you would be getting NBA Elite ala 2011 for the next 4-5 years or more. They are doing it with Madden so what makes you think they would handle Elite any differently if it were the only game in town?

Here is they thing that cracks me up in all of this, and the devs and peeps form EA that come on this board can say whatever they want, we arent stupid. The hilarious thing is this... It took EA to spend HUNDEREDS OF MILLIONS of dollars to halt production of 2K Sports football title. All it took for 2k Sports to halt the production of EA's basketball title was to make a superior game. Point blank, period. 2k knows it, EA knows it, everyone on this forum knows it. So lets just call it for what it is and stop trying to be so politically correct. A lack of competition breeds complacency, doesnt matter how EA wants to spin their take on exclusivity deals.

And you know what would happen when they do release their first title on the next gen of systems? It will be the NBA version of Madden 06. Super cool commerical. Half of a game. And you will get the same "next year" "didnt have enough time in this cycle" excuse.. then when Live 2021 comes out you will START to see more of a complete basketball game on the next gen of systems. But like I've said in other posts, the problem is not the devs as much as it is the big wigs. They control the cycle, and everything else. Sure some of the devs probably know nothing about basketball but will still be on the dev team, but people don't fool yourself. EA Sports is not ran by sports gamers, it's ran by business men who just happen to have a sports gaming company as the business they run.
