    Points off the break...

I'm new to the Live series, and not a very strong X's and O's basketball guy, but I gotta say...

DAMN, I am tired of getting run into the ground off every missed basket. I can understand some breaks off rushed shots, missed 3's, etc. but I sure get sick of every miss resulting in a baseball pass to a streaking PG for an easy layup (exacerbated by the idiotic "speed" factor - ie. you cant catch his guys, but they sure as hell can catch you! )

I like to play the Jazz, and I know they are not very good, and a slow team compared to most others...but when I post up Ostertag, back down for a shot inside the charge arc, and miss from 3 feet, I shouldnt see a baseball pass resulting in a _THREE ON 0_ the other way...that's just lame.

There is so much to like about this game...and coming from a casual basketball fan, that's saying a lot...and while I'm not the greatest player, I cant stand to see EA throw things in there that make the game patently advantageous for the computer AI...

    Re: Points off the break...

Try this...set your defense to Half Court Man to Man, and when you miss a shot, immediately select either your power forward ( L2 + []) or your center (L2 + /_\ ) and run straight back. What does this do? Well, by playing half court man to man and NOT selecting your point guard, two or three, you ensure that they pick their men up at half court, slowing down the break. And by selecting your PF or C and running back, you bring back an extra man to defend the break that doesn't have to guard anyone (the PF and C NEVER get involved in the fast break, unfortunately).

You'll still give up the occasional break (inevitable), but this will stop the constant barrage of fast break points against the CPU. I haven't tested this theory against a human opponent, but I assume it would work the same, as all fast breaks are started by computer a.i. Hope this helps...

Thanks for the reply, I'll give it a shot. My post was 50% pure bitching, 50% hoping for advice...hopefully your idea will help out.

Any idea why EA does something like speed differences between CPU and User players on a break? Does ESPN have that stupid "feature" too???

I don't know, I guess it's to give the CPU a fighting chance. What I do to minimize the "catch up speed" is to hit the dunk/layup button as soon as my man is in lane. Once my guy on the break hits the lane, I hit layup. The CPU usually can't catch him then. If he does get back, I use the jump stop to separate, then go to the rack...it seems to work well. Bacically, don't wait until your next to the basket to hit the layup button. The CPU will definitely catch up in that scenario.

Playing with it a little more (specifically, different camera views), it seems like I gave up FAR fewer breaks playing with the Press Box and Baseline High cameras...

Is it possible that this is made worse by the Baseline Low view???

to stop the breaks you gotta turn off crashing boards. If you have it on ya players will all go for the rebound leaving the guards at the top ready to run up the score on ya
