There's a file in the Database/origdb directory called 'defplays.xls.' It appears that the information for a team's offense sets are in that file. Each team has a team id plus numbers identifying plays. Which id refers to which team can be found in the 'teams.xls' file. Someone with some patience (more than I have) could identify which numbers refer to which sets. In theory someone could just modify that file and not have to manually change things before a game.

That file may not be what I think it is, but it's something along those lines.

Now THAT'S interesting. And worth a try, since I would really hate to adjust the play sets for each team everytime I begin a game. Why couldn't EA Sports just do this themselves though?

Re: Nba offensive sets!! i found um

Upon doing some further research this morning, I think the info is actually in the 'teams.xls' file. There are columns for primmary offense, secondary offense, etc. I'm going to poke around and see if I can figure it all out.

Interestingly, in that file you can also specify the degree of home advantage by team. I've wanted to do that for years.

Sorry, got ahead of myself--looking at the teams.xls file and the numbers used in the prim_off, sec_off, etc. columns, it looks like those are player ID's. So that's where the go-to guy is specified.

Somebody who's better at this than I am should start poking around in these files. I'm sure all this information is contained somewhere in that directory. There are a ton of things that can be done.

                  - Upon the beginning of a game press ESC.
                  - Under Select Controller, assign one to the opponent (either the keyboard or your own controller).
                  - Go back to the Main Menu and click Strategy, then Team Strategy.
                  - There right next to the team name should be left/right arrow toggle.
                  - Click on of the arrow to switch teams to set.
                  - Right next to Offensive Sets change Dynamics to a set play you like them to use.
                  - Be careful on selecting a play (or formation). Make sure you select the one without a number right next to it (ie Flex vs Flex 1). Using a formation without a # will force the CPU to assign a new set play each possession. (Just to get a point across formation is Flex and a set play is the number right next to it).
-After you are satisfied exit out into the Main Menu.
-Go to Select Controller again and just unassign the controller from your opponent.
                  -Click Resume Game.

Nice work and will try this out

One question though, wouldn't this mean the CPU only runs this set of plays?

Ie, LA would run an inside triangle all game ?

Shall try it out. I wonder if it affects the FB game at all?

Regardless, good post and appreciate the time it must have taken

There are still four exact plays it can run at once, and then there is the team offensive style.
It sounds pretty good. I've played Dallas, and Phoenix, and have had some good games.

I guess I wasn't ahead of myself after all. If you look in the teams.xls file, there are columns for the following: Prim_Off, Sec_Off, Alt_1, Alt_2, Alt_3, and Alt_4. The values in those columns are not player ID's. If you look at the Lakers, for example, and cross-reference the values with the plays.xls file, their Prim_Off is the 'inside ^' which I assume is the inside triangle. Their Sec_Off is the sideline ^. Alt_1 is also sideline ^ (but a different version), Alt_2 is Utah, Alt_3 is sideline ^, and Alt_4 is Motion. That sounds pretty convincing to me.

Also, all the All-Star teams listed in that file run Motion (126) as their primary offense, which sounds correct.

Now I don't know if that's what they're actually using in the game or if it's hooked up properly, because it sounds like you guys aren't seeing that, but you can look in the file for yourself and change whatever values you want. Just be sure to cross-reference the plays.xls file so that you are using valid values.

Maybe I'll change some team's values and see if they're running different offensive sets as a result.
