Re: Why doesn't EA just build off NBA LIVE 10? THEY CAN'T.
they tried to invent a new bball brand called elite 11 with guys who make hockey games smfh didnt work but now they releaseing the elite 11.5 beta for digital DL!!!Kingeo19, who knows. Everything in that video is hearsay. I wouldn't put too much stock into what this dude's friends who used to work at EA or whatever say. Remember, there's 3 sides to every story, yours, mine, and what really happened.
And all this talk about Mike Wang, he's cool and all and seems like a nice guy, but he's not some basketball God that is irreplaceable. He's just a dude who seems to know basketball. I'm 100% positive EA can and has put together a team of people who know basketball. They don't need to build off Live 10 they can invent a new brand and build off that.Comment

Re: Why doesn't EA just build off NBA LIVE 10? THEY CAN'T.
He is IMPORTANT and cannot be replaced but its very tiring to see people USE HIM AS AN EXCUSE if something fails. I mean come on I'm sure they can do better than this even if he's gone. You're right and wrong. I don't want to by any means take away from what other guys do on these video games because they're contributions are amazing and they deserve to be recognized, but to try to pass Mike Wang off as just some guy who's replaceable is a crock of ****. Not saying you did that, but fluent (surprise, surprise) is trying to do that and it's not the right way to go. For about the last ten years now every GREAT basketball title that's come around has one thing in common and that's Mike Wang. What Mike has done for video game basketball going back to even Inside Drive is undeniable, that kind of talent IS indeed irreplaceable. You can try to be PC all you want to come off as unbiased about this topic, but facts are facts and if somebody can't see those facts because they're trying to be "fair" and PC about a team effort then they need to stop talking about the subject because they aren't helping it. Like I said, much respect to all the devs out there for what they do because they are all talented guys and they all do help bring the sport we love to consoles but there are some guys in pretty much every walk of life more valuable than the rest and Mike Wang is one of those guys.Comment

Re: Why doesn't EA just build off NBA LIVE 10? THEY CAN'T.
I get what you're saying, but I would bet that Mike would be the first to take a step back and acknowledge the TEAM first and foremost. From where I'm standing, wasn't Zach Timmerman the man on Choops 2K8? Seems everything he touches is quite dope as well. Where is the love for Zach Timmerman? What about SimBaller? Jones? You're right and wrong. I don't want to by any means take away from what other guys do on these video games because they're contributions are amazing and they deserve to be recognized, but to try to pass Mike Wang off as just some guy who's replaceable is a crock of ****. Re: Why doesn't EA just build off NBA LIVE 10? THEY CAN'T.
man you trying to defend every post that makes EA look foolish lol Bottom line is they had him give imput on live 10 and it was the best EA bball game of this generation but when he left they flopped HARD. The new engine you speak of was the elite 11 engine the live 10 wasnt new but the ideas and implementation of those ideas in the game came from the new lead designer mike wang.
HERE is why he left

You dont need to be a member of the EA defense force like the others, do your research and stop debating.Last edited by chandlerbang; 09-03-2012, 11:50 PM.Comment

Re: Why doesn't EA just build off NBA LIVE 10? THEY CAN'T.
He left because EA wanted to go with the total control direction. He did not leave and took his so called "game engine" with him.man you trying to defend every post that makes EA look foolish lol Bottom line is they had him give imput on live 10 and it was the best EA bball game of this generation but when he left they flopped HARD. Funny. I never said anything disputing why he left. Nothing in that link disputes anything I've said. At all.man you trying to defend every post that makes EA look foolish lol Bottom line is they had him give imput on live 10 and it was the best EA bball game of this generation but when he left they flopped HARD. And NOTHING in that piece said ANYTHING about him OWNING the Live 10 engine! That's my point. My only point.Comment

Re: Why doesn't EA just build off NBA LIVE 10? THEY CAN'T.
Doesn't say ONE word about him owning the Live 10 engine or EA not being able to continue using that engine and the work he started. EA is not that dumb.Comment

Re: Why doesn't EA just build off NBA LIVE 10? THEY CAN'T.
And he does not own the live 10 engine.... Any developer/engineer/producer knows that their work will be the company's property and they can't take it if they leave. Wait so you also think that EA's decision placed them in this position and not because Mike left?Comment

Man this convo is crazy
Mike had a vision and hand picked a team of guys that worked really hard to make a game.only we didn't get to see the full vision
....but he definitely has a positive impact on basketball games
Stephensonmc remember him? HE ALSO had an impact on live 10 as well as others names you may never know
But mike and his team will forever be known as the best thing to happen to ea basketball for a long time ...especially considering the struggle ever since
I don't think an engine was given over but his vision they don't have
You definitley need a vision and a plan and not just tech

Re: Why doesn't EA just build off NBA LIVE 10? THEY CAN'T.
cause this whole thing has nothing to do with an engine and i never said he owned it smh EA went the RTP route and he didnt agree bottom line so he came back and we have he masterpiece that is 2k13 coming in 3.5. EA wanted to be "different" but as you can see they failed in that aspect. Thread
btw i used the "rights" as pertaining to his ideas.Comment

Then what are you arguing? Why did you respond to my post about him owning rights to the Live engine?cause this whole thing has nothing to do with an engine and i never said he owned it smh EA went the RTP route and he didnt agree bottom line so he came back and we have he masterpiece that is 2k13 coming in 3.5. And he has no right to ideas either. You give up your rights to your ideas when you work for a game company. Unless that idea is quite specific and is copywrite before joining the company. When you work for a game company, you are in a no-compete agreement and your ideas are now theirs. It's a conflict of interest thing.Last edited by Boilerbuzz; 09-04-2012, 12:58 AM.Comment
