OS Interview with Sean O'Brien -

We will be sitting down with NBA Live 14 Executive Producer Sean O'Brien this upcoming week. Submit your questions for Sean, and we will do our best to get them answered.

EDIT - Per the request of EA, this interview has been postponed until after the holidays are over. As soon as normal hours resume after the new year, we will then approach scheduling the interview once again. We will log these questions and will accept any new ones that are submitted going forward.

We will update you on the new date of the interview once we have solidified it. Thank you for your patience and understanding in regards to this matter -

Re: OS Interview with Sean O'Brien -

I would like clarification in regards to this statement: "We felt authentic gameplay, control and the connected experience would provide the best foundation for the future. As a result, game visuals and animation polish suffered."

      1. What is his definition of "authentic gameplay"?

      2. What is his definition of "animation polish"?

      3. Are the 2 not directly correlated?

      4. Is he claiming that they have succeeded in delivering authentic gameplay and that the animations just needs a little polish?

      5. Does he feel that the gameplay itself has no major issues?

      6. Was the entire animation system built from the ground up? Or does it employ some of the same gameplay/animation mechanics of past iterations, including a few that weren't released?

Why does the commentary sound so stagnated? Why is there so many long pauses and dead air?

          1. Will Roster moves/missing players continually be updated? Right now there are many players missing from rosters.

          2. Will the ability to sign FA (with added FA Pool) and release/trade players in team management screen for Quick Play be patched in?

          3. Will player appearances be updated (giannis antetokounmpo is currently dark skinned and bald)?

Serious question. All I want to know is if the green light has been given for NBA Live15? Is it guaranteed that we will see NBA Live15? Even though I didn't buy it, based on the demo, the game has potential.

What types of fixes are they looking at fixing with this years game?

Will latency issues between the controller and the game be fixed?

Will game speed be amped up a little? (If current speed is say a 50, I think a 60 would be ideal)

Defense, you cannot stop someone in the post, will this be fixed? The CPU can easily dribble away from your post defender then have a burst of speed for an easy 2.

              Will blocking be toned down?

Any sort of animation or art patches in the works?

Players get locked into animations, can this be fixed?

basically ANY question i would ask would be why things were left out like player editing and slider and almost EVERY answer is going to be about how that it wasnt priority so i have no clue what i'd ask because the answer will always be the same

"We didnt have time and sacrifices had to be made."

I guess the right questions would be thes ethen

Why the 60 dollar price point?

Why wasnt there better quality control by Sean?

Why did they take so long to release gameplay footage?

Why havent your game designers been changed since NBA Elite?
(Because by the looks of it its the SAME tech)

Seriously you have to tell Sean how angry and upset we are that we WANTED to be buying and playing NBA Live but are NOT because of the DEMO

There's only one guy on the NBA Live 14 team who worked on NBA Elite 11.

He is Andres Rivela, a software engineer on the gameplay team.

Ask him why him and his team hadn't reached out to the gaming community prior to this monstrosity of a release that they're trying to pass off as a next gen title.

Re: OS Interview with Sean O'Brien -

Can more camera angles be added, as well as zoom in and zoom out features for each camera angle? (The baseline high and low angles are TO FAR AWAY. to the point of being unplayable). the "player lock" angle in rising star ( just a baseline angle thats Way to far away to be considered a player lock angle. you need to have the customization available to the user to zoom in closer and closer (This will help show off some of your graphics(the player models look a lot better close up then they do far away. now we know even then they need some fixing but closer is better then the far away angles we have now).

When The ball is passed to you on a fast break in Rising star mode. you should not always have to turn around (or even half way around) to catch the ball. the ball should be thrown in front of you. "the ball was supposed to be a live object." so allow the ball to go in front of the receiver so the receive has to sprint go get it before it rolls out of bounds or a defender grabs it for the TO.

Hopstep abuse. IF a guy hopsteps into a crowd or directly into a defender thats standing there taking a charge. it should result in a charge call. right now you rarely if ever get a charge call when that happens. in addition, when someone hopsteps into a crowd and a charge isnt called. it should result in the offensive player landing on the defensive guy and both players falling to the ground while the ball goes loose. (in rising star mode, hopstepping into a crowded area should make you more susceptible to ankle injuries(real life)) .
There needs to be a tutorial. videos online are nice. but you need to have a practice place IN THE GAME to try out these moves and get them down to a T. its to hard to try everything mid game. realism starts with practice(every nba player practices before they go to game day). If you realllly want people to learn these live controls(which are very very deep). you NEED a tutorial mode. even if it has to be relased as a DLC mode of some sort. make it so that its 1 vs 1, then some multiple player stuff so people can practice running the pick n roll/pop/slip etc. as well as running fast breaks. there needs to be tutorials for every single move you can make in the game. offense(perimeter players off the dribble(every level without modifers basic dribbling moves, with modifiers)/ off the ball/in the post), defense (defending the perimeter, off the post), and passing(over the head, chest, directional advanced passing, icon passing, bounce passes, lead passes, long bomb(hard passes), lob passes as well as alley oops, defending against the pass(trying to jump a pass or tip a lob pass)
Turn ON AutoMotion for both home and away as a default setting. make sure its also turned on for every game mode (off line head to head, online head to head, rising star, etc )

There needs to be some real work done on post play along the baseline. to many timesa big man is making a tight rope dropstep along the baseline where their clearly isnt any room left. but yet he's squeezing thru then up faking moving the defender backwards a bit then going up for the easy 2. thats not realistic for this to happen ALL THE TIME no matter who's in the post. most guys in the nba are not good on the low block. lets make that show in live 14. most guys only try basic moves in the low post. Splitter from the spurs isnt using every big man move to score. he's keeping it simple. if you dont allow him to drop step. he's going to shoot some sort of a jump hook even when being aggressive. and this isnt just a superstar or no superstar thing. some star bigs are not that hot on the low block(cough..dwight howard). so make sure you choose the real guys who really have moves in the post. kaman isnt a star but he has very solid footwork on the low block.

Make jumpshooting pf's(david west, aldridge) types shoot more mid range jumpers rather then go to work on the low block. make them run to the high post more often but still remain aggressive scorers from their.

no matter what anyone tells you. DO NOT TONE DOWN THE AGGRESIVE BEHAVIOR OF THE CPU OFFFENSIVE PLAYERS. they make you work like real basketball. Thank you for that.

Will real player voices be in NBA Live 15 ?
Why is NBA Live 14 commentary sound so stale ? ( Dead air & unnatural )
Will the commentary ever be to the level of NBA 2K in terms of depth ?
Will there be major improvements to gameplay moving forward ? Will physics and foot planting be added to the game ?
Will there be sliders in the game ?
Will graphics and animations be improved ?
Will players have emotion in the game ?
Why do players have lack of awareness with what happening on the court ? Why are the player movements so clunky and robotic ?
