Perhaps the total revenue would be closer than people think, not to mention the obviously larger user base that they could grab
I also think they could make as much possibly more selling at a lower price. 39.99 would do them well. Would give a bit of redemption to gamers

Their nba license doesn't permit them to do that.

Ive talked to developers about this in the past. Ever since NFL 2k5, all four major sports leagues made it so a game company cant charge less than standard retail price (59.99) for a disc based version of a NBA/NHL/NFL/MLB game for a specific amount of time after release..

While NFL 2k5 was a success for 2k when it came to sales, the NFL hated it because it 1) forced Madden to lower its price 2) devalued the NFL brand because other sports games costs $40 more and 3) decreased the NFL's revenue from game sales.

Very good insight. It makes sense from the leagues' perspectives though it sucks for us as gamers. Although I highly doubt that EA would consider it seriously even if it was an option.

Kind of a bummer, but I appreciate the insight nonetheless. Good stuff.

No they wouldn't be able to afford it. EA had spent a lot of money on this franchise in the last four years. They would never be able to afford letting a big title like this sell for cheap.

They need to spend money on getting more developers to help. Take chances. Splurge

Wait til the next iteration comes out, then you all can see where you'd rather spend more money. Live 15 isn't Live 14. In my eyes, they have plenty of talented workers on the team, no need to splurge for more help, just continue building on what you have.

If I remember correctly every 2k sports game that year was $19.99, not just NFL. Didn't seem to hurt 2k basketball or the NBA license at all. NFL 2k5 also benefitted from releasing weeks before Madden. Live 15 is nearly the opposite approach.

It wouldn't be a bad move for Live, especially if EA made an announcement a week or so before 2k dropped. There would definitely be more people willing to hold out for Live if this was the case. I would still buy 2k but I would be more inclined to purchase Live as well if it was sold at a cheaper price. Hell even $40 wouldn't be bad these days.
