Look, when I play I only lose the ball when it's my fault. The ball gets stolen maybe 2 or 3 times a game. I only get it stolen when I'm careless. I agree we could make it a little harder but the defensive responsiveness is one of the best things live has over 2k. Again I'm not trying to compare and start fights. But in 2k defense is unbearable because of the input lag. Steals are completely random and you get a foul for a legitimate steal attempt. Nobody is penalized for being careless. 2K is a truly great game no debate necessary. But this is a definite problem. And a big strong suit of live. I understand making it a little harder but I maybe see 3 steals a game and every one of them is because I put the ball in the defenders face and don't switch hands like I should

Don't know if I can agree with responsiveness being great when you literally can't stop the LeBron (or anyone else with his speed rating) cherry pick tactic because you can swipe at will off the ball...Comment

Re: Steal Button Online Exploit
Lets first address what a real NBA steal looks like. and how it develops.
^^watch the video.
and now its time for a lesson on offense from JOrdan himself.(someone spelled it wrong. lol).
PROTECT THE BASKETBALL at all times OR ELSE.
and lets go in depth with basketball. you can watch this entire video which includes a bunch of training, offensive, and defensive techniques. if you actually play ball this is some really good info. wish i would've had this when i was a little kid. i would've destroyed the comp..(i destroyed them anyway ..lol)
^^for ball handling/defense start at 3:00
PAY attention.
after watching these videos. you now understand what a few people in here are saying. PROTECT THE BALL or else it will get stolen or poked loose.
Some want Protect the ball animations installed while calling a play. well how's about this. pick up a ball and try to call a play with your one hand while dribbling with the other. You have to do 2 things at once. call the play #1, turn your body to protect the ball #2. you cant do #1 and not expect it to be stolen. You asked for SIM. and you got SIM. dont cry now guys. Learn how to play real basketball. That means yes it should be some what difficult for you to call a play while a defender is close by. its hard for an offensive player to do that in real life.
The reason you dont see nba players getting their pockets picked like crazy. is because the defender RESPECTS their game and knowledge of basketball 101. which is protect the ball. They know if they go for a strip that player will turn their body and it will become a foul or that player will blow by them. nba live cant do this for you. you have to learn hoop fundamentals and how to use them in the game yourself. THeir in the game. USE THEM.
if you dont and keep asking for dev help on stuff like this. it will turn the game into 2k animations galor. where you control the game less and less. but it looks more realistic.
realism isnt just about the look. its about how YOU and the guy you're playing plays basketball. the reason a saturday pickup game at the park with a bunch of guys that have never played high school ball even looks horrible vs the nba players playing. is because the difference in SKILL. you can even have a bunch of long athletic guys that have ZERO skill. it still looks horrible. So if you look bad and dont look like the nba on nba live. its probably because you're not using nba level hoop fundamentals.
Now if you've done your part and it still looks unrealistic(guys going thru you for steals or not getting called for fouls even though you're protecting the ball). Now its time to cry to EA devs and tell them "hey make this right and make it like real life."
beware of having the devs boost the game to make it LOOK more real instead of forcing us users to play more real.Comment

Re: Steal Button Online Exploit
guys i'm not trying to clown anyone or come down on anyone thats having these issues with the steal spammers. All i'm saying is. Make sure before we go off crying to the devs. that its not our fault and that its not something we can fix by playing more realistic fundamental basketball. vs having them fix something in the game that isnt broken. now its you getting an automatic ball protection animation while calling a play. That what you call an offensive Assistance. It's equivalent to 2k's box out assistant. it should not be in the game at all . you should have to manually do that yourself. it makes it play more realistic the better the users are at playing real hoop.
It will take some time for both users to get use to this.
If all the offensive players start playing real ball and protecting the ball. the spammers will start fouling out or getting scored on at will. Eventually the spammers will either stop trying to steal the ball (like nba defenders respect nba offensive players) Or these spammers will stop playing live altogether.Comment

But I'll have to disagree with you. I truly feel those explanations/videos doesn't translate 1:1 to a videogame. There are so many other instances where NBA Live 15 (and the other game as well) fails to reproduce the mechanics of a real basketball game that it's not even worth mentioning.
And that's not a knock on either game (since I love both). Games like FIFA and Gran Turismo have major gaps when compared compared to real life as well and that's a natural thing. During the process of developing a game there are TONS of concessions that need to be made to make sure the game is playable and fun, while at the same time resembling enough of the real thing so that it doesn't break the immersion and authenticity of the experience it's trying to emulate. Finding this balance is an integral part of the process of making sports videogames.
For example, in NBA Live 15 when calling a play the game makes you let go of the the left thumb-stick since you need to use the D-Pad to bring the play calling menu up. It's a bad design decision since that leaves the ball handler vulnerable for a split second. And before someone brings the "click L3 to cover the ball" card, I don't think it's a viable solution since the cheesers starts harassing your ball handler at the other side of the court as soon as you get an inbound pass after a made basket. The whole turn back/face up process is plagued with clunky animations and during an online match the added sloppiness to the overall experience due to eventual connection latency only makes matters wrose.
So it's not a question of guys not knowing what to do to protect the rock, it's a matter of the game giving us the tools to do it in a reliable/consistent manner. A simple contextual shield the ball animation or a greater impact on the overall stamina of the defender who reaches every single time would do just fine.
To sum it all up: in my opinion, the steal mechanic needs to be fine tuned. At its current state it's a low risk/high reward affair and I can't emphasize that enough.
NBA Live 15 made huge strides this year and I love the game to death. Can't wait for 16. This is not a spoiled rant. I'm not saying the game is broken. It's positive feedback.Comment

Re: Steal Button Online Exploit
Now understand me it could have been a foul but this kind of situation happens a lot in real life
Here is a perfect example with the number 7 of this top ten (sorry for the crappy quality)
it also happens at number 2 but the offensive player was running at full speed while Nelson was walking
better quality at number 9 here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avhUnhclR5gLast edited by thesniper321; 12-07-2014, 07:01 PM.Comment

Re: Steal Button Online Exploit
I'm sorry but that' a completly legit steal, Nelson was walking and TP quickly poke the ball around his body, why not protect the ball or pull a move instead of casually walk around the court?

Well first, even if we ignore the fact that TP's hand literally went through Jameer's body (still have that aspect of this steal saved if you'd like to see it) to get that steal, both of those steals in the videos you posted initialed with the defensive player squared with the dribbler....they weren't 'wrap around' steals or the momentum of the ball would've gone forward.
TP was on Nelson's left side, went for a right handed poke steal and knocked away a ball that was in Nelsons right hand...Can't call that legit at all...Comment

Re: Steal Button Online Exploit
The steal spamming is way too easy...granted I know how to protect myself against the tactic now, and there is some fun in toying with someone who only knows how to play "defense" like this(Like seeing a PG with 4 fouls by the 3rd qtr)...but it is still a mindless nuisance. It would be nice if there was some type of protect dribble mechanic, that can be used as a 'counter' (although I suppose the back down position can be used this way, but it really isnt meant to be used in that manner.) I dont even use it very often and can still swipe 2-3 steals a game, and the guy being usered doesnt have to be all that great at it, nor do you even have to be in a good fundamental position to pull it off.
There are other exploits popping up as well..the cherry picking, going into the backdown and then instantly trying to disengage to slide off of the defender to get into the paint are the 2 most prominent. Most of my online opponents have been playing mindless, chicken head basketball, for the most partComment
