Re: NBA Live 16 Gameplay Video (IGN)

I wonder how much of the odd ball moves is from game itself or just player error I for one don't understand the complaints....played a game of Live the other day (in which I haven't played in months no reason why) and to say the least with all the "problems" factored in, I had a pretty smooth game....

I just wonder if the players at e3 are just picking up and going with it and just playing it to what does what and not putting their minds to it....just my opinion on the matter....

Lot of complaining over easy fixes and personal awareness....lot of moves made by players I wouldn't have personally done.

And I wonder how many have a 2k mindset when they push a button and involuntarily expect a certain thing to happen and it doesn't? I know I go through that myself where I have to literally change my approach on how play this game....when I do the game is way more enjoyable and ran more smoothly.

Maybe some of you don't understand the game itself to enjoy it fully.

Don't really know? I assume it was AI....but the second video was 2 player.

this is true. the first few games I played im sure looked a lot like this as I was adjusting to how this game worked versus 2k or live 15. Trying to get to a spot to "trigger" an animation is not exactly how to play this. by the time I was 4 or 5 games in it just looked much better. But no doubt about it some of the animations and the way they blend is just ugly. But this is definitely not just the same game. it really does feel pretty good.

It looked like it to me; the Cavs players didn't have the circle around the feet that usually indicates a user-controlled player.

That’s what I figured. That was a nice P&R they ran, the finish just continues to irk me because it’s indicative of a bigger issue.

I honestly don’t mind the animations themselves…I can get over them not being as great as I’ve seen (I can also see why this does upset people though)

I just want the interactions to be solid. If player cutting or rolling to the basket, they should be able to catch and finish in one motion. If I drop a pass to a big who’s man came to help, they should be able to take a step in and finish. If a player is coming at me I want to be able to consistently make contact at the rim…Too many times last year, the defense at the rim was completely ignored. That’s basketball man, If this is indeed a ‘physics based’ game, these things like momentum and 1 on 1 interactions should be the backbone of it.

Like someone else mentioned though, I know they have a lot more tweaking to do….and despite my issues, I like a lot of what I’ve seen and heard. We’ll see what happens.

the problem is those odd ball moves or weird loooking animations have been there before and i can see how a few guys might not be as confident as you to just lable it user error. so maybe your right it could be a easy fix but then again we are talking about nba live and phrases such as easy fixes has never been the case with the series lately that's why you see some concerns over the early gameplay video.

but i personally believe a demo might be the best way to gage if progress has truly been made with the actual gameplay but i like most of what iv'e seen posted so far.

Either you have a game full of canned animations with less control (funnily enough the two games mentioned in this thread 2K and FIFA are both guilty of that) or you have a looser animation system like Live has been building over the last few years.

Visually, it doesn't look as good as it could when going down this path but gameplay wise, I'd take it any day of the week. The precision and responsiveness is second to none and the unscripted animations made possible by their physics system (having played 14 and 15 for about a year each) really give the game a look and feel no other basketball game has even attempted, let alone matched.

And while I agree some animations most definitely look 'off' (the dunks and shots around the hoop especially, simply don't resemble NBA athletes), 'stiff' is far from the word you use to describe Live. It's almost too loose and the opposite of stiff and robotic.
They are using animations from years ago that's why it looks so bad.

Dribing looks a little too loose, especially when draymond was trying to change directions. Pretty sure by late August a lot of stuff will be cleaned up. Sep.29 will be a great day for hoops fans

NBA Live 2006 was the last time EA had a good following. No wonder the game moved like actual people.

I dont give a crap about 2k or Fifa... how about NBA Live?

There is no excuse for the players to be stiff and floaty for almost 10 years now and we as a community can't continue to make excuses for it.

After seeing that video on some real OLD tech, how can you justify this?

My thoughts exactly. Hopefully by having the game playable this early and videos out in the wild, they can collect feedback and incorporate it into the release. It looks solid so far, although I also enjoyed last year's game.

Does it looked much improved ?? yes.

Does it looked completely different ?? no.

The thing is, it's JUNE and we've already seen so much.

Lots of time to tweak and adjust. Other years we'd see this gameplay clip in late september when obviously it was the finished product.

I mentioned this the other day Live 06 was IMO the last very good game by EA...

It had really good animations for it's time, player specific plays you could assign and the speed of the players felt like they were atheletes gracing up and down the floor.

By far my favorite NBA Live game....

But on side note I noticed this with NCAA Football 06 and Madden 06 they were much better than recent versions of their XBOX 360 counterparts aswell.

It might just be a EA thing where simply just haven't been able to put all the pieces together in animations since the old PS2 days.
