Fastbreak fix?

I heard there was a setting you can change that will enable better fast breaks where the computer will run with you and everything. Anyone know how to do this?

Don't know of any.

While the gameplay is very solid this year compared to last year, one big annoyance for me is the way the players come to dead stop upon receiving a pass. I had hoped this wouldn't happen nearly as often as last year, but it still does most of the time. If there was a certain way to pass the ball such that it didn't happen, I'd love to know how. I'll quote for the OS interview with the Live team:

We also added some moving passes and receptions during fast breaks that really make the game flow up and down the court during the break. One thing to note that we have read as an occasional complaint is the jumping pass reception. These only occur when the User is passing out of a jumpshot (not an easy thing to do in real life and very exploitable in the game if it’s a perfect pass every time) or if the pass is longer than 60ft in length. This is to force the User to make tic-tac-toe passing when executing a fast break, bringing a little more skill into the game, making it more realistic and also preventing players from ‘cherry picking’.

The only new moving reception I've noticed is when inbounding the ball. If you move the player as he receives it he kind of does a hop step as he receives it. Kind of neat. If there was more of that while the ball is in-play, that would be fantastic.

Also when i steal the ball i'll have a clear breakaway to the hoop,but then all the sudden the CPU speeds past me,and gets into a defensive stance...wtf? I'm still lovin this game though.

dude you are right, they keep jumping for the ball and the CPU does speed up. I hated this in live 2004, but it still exists

But I do still like this game and espn.

dude you are right, they keep jumping for the ball and the CPU does speed up. I hated this in live 2004, but it still exists

occasionally they do this great animation where they catch it on the run, but it only happens when they have a clear shot to the hoop with no one in front of them.

i read this in the live impressions thread i believe, but there are so many pages it will take a while to find it. it might have been somewhere else though...

Yeah, I have even seen an extreme version of this. I was able to steal the ball and then KObe sprinted towards the other end. I threw him the ball and the pass was waaay ahead of him. Then KObe suddenly tried to leap like he was a doing a long jump to go after the balL!!!!!! it was an easy dunk after that. it blew me away.

Yeah it does happen every now and then. I don't know how to consistently get it to work, though.

As the above poster said, I think it only works when your throwing the ball up ahead and the recipient has a clear path to the basket. It would be cool if someone could figure out exactly under what situations it works and when it doesn't, so I don't have to be expecting it and be dissapointed it didn't happen 90% of the time.

If it is only on clear paths to the basket, then that means it wouldn't work with 3-on-2 or 2-on-1 fastbreaks, which is a shame. Oh well, that's definitely something EA needs to put in the game next year.

Use OFF THE BALL and you control the fast break, you lead it and let the CPU pass it to you.
