    Re: Live or 2k5

I dont see his point at all. He's basically saying it'd be unfair if the shooting success depended on the skill of the human player instead of the ratings given to the players in the game by the developers. But eh isnt it sorta the whole idea of video games to have your own skills decide how good your results are? Otherwise you may as well just trade for and sign your team and then let the CPU play the games, I suppose that'd be "only fair" as well.

And no, this isnt any different from NHL games or other sports games, executing shots is an integral part of basketball isnt it? So how is letting the CPU do it perfectly by default less "cheap" then the same in a NHL game or other sports game? The fact that there's a lot of shooting in basketball doesnt change that, there's loads of fancy martial arts moves in games like Mortal Kombat as well and youd still not let the CPU do it. Repetition is also part of video gaming.

Basically letting the CPU "control" the shots is just a way of making the game easier and he's invented an entire rationalization around that. The game doesnt actually play any differently, you still have to press the button and all, it just increases the % of your shots that will go in because it removes your own judgement and skill from the process. I mean I seriously dont care whether anyone does this, I used to do it at times too, I just dont buy the explanation since it's pretty weak. It's the same as putting the sliders more into your favor, you can do it but theres no other explanation for it than you wanting to make the game easier for yourself (which is fine with me, its about having fun after all).

I'd also just like to know how this is a reason you should get Live over ESPN? Im sure theres plenty of ways to make the game easier for the human player in ESPN too.

This wasn't the reason I got Live over ESPN. This was the reason I am buying Live instead of just renting it. I already bought ESPN.

I like the CPU Assisted shooting. It's makes the game more enjoyable for me, and it doesn't really matter what rationalization is used. I don't feel I need to defend the way I choose to play the game, but I did want to provide an example about how the assisted shooting worked and why I prefer to use it, so that my players are shooting based on rating and not my timing. I was merely providing information so that others could reach their own conclusions about whether to use it or not. I don't care if they opt to use it or not; nor do I expect them to care if I do, but I told them just in case they did.

      Take care.

I disagree with this in that in hockey the CPU auto aim picks the open spots that the goalie isn't covering, therefore making scoring incredibly easy. In the NBA there is no goalie, but there is a defender, and unless you work your way to a clear shot, you are likely going to have your shot blocked. If I work for the open shot, I feel that my player should be able to have his shot go in based on his ratings and not my timing as a user. In hockey, setting auto aim has the computer doing too much. In basketball, I feel the user working for the open shot is enough and the rest can come down to ratings.

Also, in hockey goals and scoring is a lot less common, and more precious, and thus it feels nice to earn your goals. In basketball a team will make miss anywhere from 30-60% of their shots, so it isn't as much of a big deal if the user is controlling making every single one. In hockey I want to have full control of scoring a goal if it only occurs three times a game. In basketball the user scores in upwards of 25 times a game, and I think that makes it less of an individual accomplishment, and more of one that is shown through team work and spreading the ball around; creating open looks.

Just my opinion. I don't consider the autoaim in hockey to be equal to shot assistance in NBA games. Granted both are aiding the user in accuracy, but in hockey the autoaim guides the shots towards unguarded spots on the net while in basketball all shots are going towards the net, and the user instead has to work for clean looks.

Again, it's not really something worth arguing about at all. If you like manually shooting the ball, then I I recommend it. I like having my shot percentages based on ratings and not my timing, because I think that sways the scales unfairly in the CPU's favor. I use adjusted sliders too, but I don't take issue with that either.

          To each his own.

          Take care.

Although I don't use it and would never use, I wouldn't put someone else down for using it. It does have one benefit, keeps shooting % where they should be..unless your perfect all the time..

i took back live. 2K5 is the better game to me.

just didnt like lives gameplay. couldnt run a fast break and for some reason even after changing sliders i couldnt go by people off the dribble. and when i got it to when i could go by someone, the moves were too fast and looked fake.

Espn still got some of those BS dunks in it but it got some good ones too.

the live dunk contest is fire tho.

You make good points MK. I use it because if I played the other way I'd get my timing down and become unstoppable. This way, that won't happen. It's the same reason I coach in football games. Because it's not me reading the defense, or me juking past the linebacker, or me making the tackles on D the game is alot more of a challenge and more realistic in my eyes. It's now possible to have a good team and still get a challenge when you play without slider-imposing weakness into your team.

                      That's why I do it.

I think this post is turning into a post on sliders. But to answer the original question. I prefer live. ESPN is graphical beast. I like the personalities in dynasty mode, in a weird way it mirrors madden. Stars get unhappy over minutes etc.

But Live (just like Madden) has better gameplay options. The skating movement is there, but I only notice it when I look for it. The gameplay is awesome. I get fast breaks when I deserve them. I am rewarded when I hit the open man. The post moves are well executed. The shot animations are unique. The steal animation is perfect. In the NBA you for for a steal and miss, a good guard is off to the races. I have thrown no look passes in the lane, and pinned shots against the glass.

The icing on the cake is ASW. I will be the first to admit, I thought it would be a cute gimmick. I was DEAD wrong. The three point shootout is a nice touch and when you go against a friend is down right beautiful.

The Dunk Contest is..............(wipes tear away)....just beautiful. The options are endless, and smoothly done. I did the freestyle challenge against the computer and was trashed. The CPU pulled all the tricks out the bag. Never had so much fun losing.
