I dont see his point at all. He's basically saying it'd be unfair if the shooting success depended on the skill of the human player instead of the ratings given to the players in the game by the developers. But eh isnt it sorta the whole idea of video games to have your own skills decide how good your results are? Otherwise you may as well just trade for and sign your team and then let the CPU play the games, I suppose that'd be "only fair" as well.
And no, this isnt any different from NHL games or other sports games, executing shots is an integral part of basketball isnt it? So how is letting the CPU do it perfectly by default less "cheap" then the same in a NHL game or other sports game? The fact that there's a lot of shooting in basketball doesnt change that, there's loads of fancy martial arts moves in games like Mortal Kombat as well and youd still not let the CPU do it. Repetition is also part of video gaming.
Basically letting the CPU "control" the shots is just a way of making the game easier and he's invented an entire rationalization around that. The game doesnt actually play any differently, you still have to press the button and all, it just increases the % of your shots that will go in because it removes your own judgement and skill from the process. I mean I seriously dont care whether anyone does this, I used to do it at times too, I just dont buy the explanation since it's pretty weak. It's the same as putting the sliders more into your favor, you can do it but theres no other explanation for it than you wanting to make the game easier for yourself (which is fine with me, its about having fun after all).
I'd also just like to know how this is a reason you should get Live over ESPN? Im sure theres plenty of ways to make the game easier for the human player in ESPN too.
