Even for rim protectors, blocked shots are rare

Only 4 players in the NBA last season averaged 2 per game, and 3 of them were barely over 2

I've created a 7 ft Center and that's about what I average and I'm likely in the bottom 3rd of players in terms of skill

Also, I'm not sure if it was intentional by ea, but the nba is going ALL offense ALL the time. Possible they give the offense a slight advantage?

I'm having great fun playing defense.
    Couple things...

This is a street ball setting, so NBA averages wouldnt really apply here...

Funny thing is, if you turn around and play the Cavs/Warriors match up, Kevin Love is a premier shot blocker...and I would wager my shot blocking rating is higher, lol

For me personally, its not so much blocking shots, I would like to see my intimidator trait have a bit more effect...and more heavily contested shots miss at the rim....just a bit too many posters for my liking in Live Run...

Still having fun with the mode, but I think there's always room for improvement...

The more I play the better it gets. It's an extremely fun game and the atmosphere especially for close games is great. My only flaw is it seems pretty hard to play good defense. It's a change of pace from the other game, and I plan on getting both this year.

Just read comments above and I agree the game does feel sluggish, and there seems to be a ton of shot blocking. Still am having fun with the game though.

All the "fad' celebrations is one thing that I don't like about the game. I've seen the following and I don't think I've ever actually seen any players do them in a real game. It seems to be a semi-common theme with EA sports game. The same with the David Tyree superbowl catch. Apparently that animation triggered a good amount of times in the game the following year in Madden at least I think that's what I read.

All of these honestly should just be taken out and real life celebrations be put into the game (i.e. High fives, etc.)

            (1) Bernie Lean
            (2) The Dab (the only person I really see it done is Cam Newton)
            (3) You can't see me (John Cena thing) - just saw Klay Thompson doing this immediately after doing the dab.
            (4) After shooting a made 3 pointer, the squat (or whatever term you want to call it) that Steph Curry did after Durant made the 3 point shot in the final. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAenwJ_oIq0
            (5) And whatever the above video of Klay is doing is called.

Re: NBA Live 18 - Demo Impressions

Finally got a chance to play tonight some quick things I noticed:

              Positives-

              1) Game is definitely much better than NBA live 16. They started a solid foundation to start building off of.

              2) Defense is how it should be. Players can't go and just score whenever they feel like it. Calling plays and moving the ball around allows game feel like I'm actually playing a real game.

              3) Contact on the drives gets a A+. I can feel the player I'm controlling fighting to get to their spot or getting pushed back.

              4) Crowd atmosphere. Live always gets that spot on.

              Negatives-

              1) There is a animation that annoys me, when your driving with your player and you keep going. It sucks cuz when I'm trying to stop and make a move it doesn't react fast enough.

              2) Post play! Post play! Post play! I know Live has never had the best post game, but man I can't stand it when ZAZA is hitting me with a fadeaway and making it 8/10 times.

              3) The in ability to sub on the fly oppose to pausing the game and making changes. If anyone knows how to do that, and I'm just missing that please let me know.

Overall for a first run through I'm very pleased with what they have produced. I don't expect Live to be great from the beginning, or even the next couple years. Hoping now they can start building off a consist product and I'll be a full time buyer.

Hopefully they add this in and we get a respectable dynasty mode. I'll still pick up though because it's always nice having a change of pace basketball game.

Played the demo for the first time tonight and I have to say I am impressed with the game. I played 2 games in the create your player story mode thing and 1 regular game and the graphic upgrade from a few years ago is crazy didn't play last year though. Animations are also a lot better but still not at 2k level and still kind of jerky. The game over all fells a lot better then any NBA live in a while though. Wondering if I should take a chance or not on this game. Any idea what its franchise mode is going to be like? I have not been following the news on this game. Shoot blocking on default there are way to many. In a 5 minute quarter game so a 20 minute game both me and CPU must have had like 15 blocks or something crazy.

Re: NBA Live 18 - Demo Impressions

I for one much prefer the user defense in this game than 2ks - in 2k i created lockdowns and rarely felt as strong as other archetypes ESPECIALLY with the same ease.

In this game so far i've played with a wing defender and really enjoyed the cutoffs - overall 1v1 defense - there ARE some driving animations that are quite powerful in terms of avoiding blocks in the air.

But overall i haven't been able to level my MP that much because i keep restarting too test builds. So my stats haven't been high enough for me to feel like i deserve to be dominating on defense or something.

I played a game online and had 2 steals that i loved to see - one in the fastbreak where the user was going straight at me and tried to do a dribble hesitation despite being a tall slasher and i stripped him with an animation that made me feel like a wing defender for sure - my steal rating was 78.

The other one was a big who got the rebound and as soon as he came down i stripped him and got the ball back.

I contested some shots as well which made me feel good.

For those saying shot blocking is not looking present enough - remember that this game is not 2k - for the most part i'm noticing the timing for blocks can depend a lot on animations.

You have to actually TIME the block according to the animation - and some are hard because like i said there are some acrobatic animations.

For the most part with those animations you don't want to go for the block asap - you want to wait till it seems their gonna release the ball.

Because sometimes the driving animations look like the player is just gonna go up straight away but they don't - and it can kind of fake you out - so it's just about getting used to animations and timing it correctly.

The rating should likely matter too ofc.

What I love about this game is that I feel like I have total control. 2k looks better animation wise, but you're stuck in animations so much it's crazy.

Also, lighting is amazing. And playing in Crawsover, Drew, and on these real courts is awesome. Definitely picking this game up.

Contact on drives is great. Bit too easy to make layups, but it looks pretty good. Contact in general is very well done, especially when it comes to on ball defense. You can strap guys up, but they can also beat you.

Dribbling is nice. You have your basic moves, and can do what you want with them. The ball isn't tethered to your guy. My player has a 74 dribbling rating, and he lost the ball quite a bit when I tried to change direction under pressure.

One thing I don't really like is that it doesn't seem like you can change your athleticism. My player is 6'3, 190, and has 86 speed (I think). It'd be nice to be able to get up to 94-95. I'll probably experiment with a bunch of different builds anyway.
