What I'm seeing with NBA Live..

I've been away from this site for a good while, but checking out NBA Live 18, I keep seeing that people are not really giving the game a chance because the game isn't "feature-rich" like 2k is.

Granted, it is 2017 and games should be feature packed; but I see this version of Live as a complete rebuild from the ground up. Started from 0%.

Maybe they wanted to gain a little bit of traction by releasing a game that was actually playable at first and then will add more and more features in the iterations that come.

You have to start from somewhere, you know?

    Just my two cents..

I feel ya and I agree somewhat but it is a legitimate complaint to have about missing features. I'm personally good with it as the menus in franchise are super well laid out, the news feed is great, I can trade and sign free agents. I don't need all the bells and whistle of fm duties and all that. I like to take my team and play every game and try and win championships. As long as injuries and CPU trading are fixed I'm good.

Its not a total rebuild from zero either. A lot of 16 is in 18 which isn't a bad thing. I loved 16. Either way though it was a massive undertaking and I'm super happy where this game is right now. Honestly though the average gamer probably isn't as open minded about the process and really who cares. You like it. I like it. Ea seems committed to live as a franchise so the future is bright.

And at some point we have to stop making excuses for the Live team. If they gave us a road map and clear plan, I think people would be cool about it. But we been in rebuild mode almost 10 years now. With those 2 years off, I think majority of us expected more fluid quality animations also.

They chose to take 2 years between 2015-2017(LIve 16) and while Live 18 is really good(in my opinion) its pathetic at this point we cant get the basics down. I understand mycareer/the one is the now, but a good portion of us could give 2 poops about it. I personally have no interest in LUT modes or the like.

Without depth, what should someone like me do who only plays offline franchise type modes. I have no interest in fighting low bball iq players online. Same thing that happen with 15 and 16, I lose interest playing quick matches non stop without something real to sink my teeth in.

Basketball games are my version of rpg games. After the honeymoon period is over I will have nothing to do. Im one of the few that Live(with a LOT of tweaks) offer a more sim experience vs the competition at the moment.

Roster editing is not a deal breaker but bright red/blue/yellow socks will get annoying.

2k has been built for almost 2 decades. The foundation has been set for a long while on that series. This new Live has had the foundation built for only half a decade almost. The series is heading in the right direction for sure.

Having to play catch up can be stressful all around. Building quality gameplay AND keep up with major features and modes across the board, to keep in line with 2k. The extra year of development time was much needed and you can tell it had a quality pay off.

NBA Live is on the right track. Everyone has to start somewhere, even 2k did all those years ago.

You are correct in a sense but what I think people have a problem with is live has had to start somewhere every year for 10 years lol. If they could have got the basics down any one of those first 5 years we wouldn't even be having this conversation because there would be more features.

The reality however is that there is zero use in dwelling on the past mistakes.I feel like they finally started hitting their stride with 16 and they have done wonders in the 2 years between. If they even do half what they did in those 2 years with 1 year till the next release it will be looking real good I think.

NBA Live doesn't deserve all the hate. I'ts beyond me
why people feel the need to trashtalk this game.

In my opinion, competition is desperately needed
and only benefits us, the players. Why on earth would
people rant about NBA Live, telling people how much
better 2K is, how bad 2K is destroying Live in comparison.
If anything every step forward for Live is something to
appreciate. Maybe im the only one who has that impression,
but to me it looks like EA is working really hard to make steps
forward with Live. Not something they have been known for
in the gaming community to say the least. How could you not
            encourage that?

I didn't buy Live since Live 10. I was disappointed
after every Live Demo since then. The choice which one
to buy has been a no brainer the last 7 years for me.
Was still hoping Live would come back. And i have to say
i really like the improvements in Live 18. I have a blast
watching all the Live 18 footage on youtube right now and
i really enjoyed playing the demo. This is the first time since
Live 10 that i will get both games. Because EA deserves my money
this year, I will primarily play 2K no doubt, but i'm hopefully in
for a great year with 2 basketball games and really looking forward to it.

              Totally agree.

I totally can see why most people like 2k better. They truly are setting the bar every year with the quality of their game in the sports game genre.

Personally I like the gameplay of live way way way better but that's strictly personal taste. Without competition I'd be fine because I really do enjoy 2k and buy it every year but I'm beyond happy that with basketball I have the option to play something I prefer.

I'm on my 4th playthrough of The One demo because I love how it plays. I barely made it through 2 very quick playthroughs of 2k prelude and NBA live gameplay, for me, blows it out of the water. I wish live had more features but thinking about it, I've gotten 2k every year and only ever play my career and park, both are on live so should suit my needs. I just wish Europe could get a discounted physical copy.

I'm seeing videos on YouTube where people have the full game already and are playing with WNBA teams. And based off the footage the WNBA games look better animation and gameplay wise than the NBA games.

In my experience with the full game, it's much smoother and diverse in animations than the demo. It felt really good. The demo feels like a step back. Really excited to get back the full game.

It's actually similar with FIFA, where you can also choose to play quick games and tournaments using Women National Teams like the US, Germany or Brazil. More fluid, more space, pretty fun.

WNBA reminds me why i miss College games, which also always had a more fluid gameplay and more variations in games.

I feel the opposite. I feel that with it's competition being so much beyond what live is, ea should focus on features to help sell the game, and it's not like people are asking for much. A lot of us want a basic staple of sports games that has strangely been absent from this series for years now with no explanation why.

The main problem right now is the other game probably has the edge in both gameplay and features. I preordered this game again anyway after canceling due to it missing so much, and I'm hoping they patch roster editing in, but I'm definitely giving it a chance.

But I wouldn't fault consumers for that either since ea hasn't done a good job marketing this game at all. Still hardly any info on it's improvements and the game is going to be released this friday.

I'm sorry about not responding, but thank you all for your respectful responses.

I also agree that the game should have more "features" in the game, but I have enough patience that I can wait for it. I see everything has a step for it.

Maybe I just think differently. But I believe within the next couple of years, Live will really be a force to be reckoned with. Competition is good.

You realize nba Live is a older series than 2K? somewhere along the line EA dropped the ball and 2K took advantage. The state of nba Live is no one else's fault but theirs no excuses. Anyway I played plenty of Live 18 and 2K18, I like 2K18 gameplay better even though Live 18 is not bad, Live is a little too arcade for me.

You realize that Tiburon started on a clean slate with NBA Live 14. That installment was developed from the ground up. The 2k games have always evolved from the past iterations.
