Re: Live Devs finally say something
When has a big sports franchise delayed their game, then decided to sell it digitally only? When did a big sports franchise delay their game, then release it for free?
I get that this is an interesting concept we can hope for, and we have promising data through mobile games and fortnite that a free model can work in these type of games,
But if we are realistic, this has NEVER happened.
More realistic: Live has done this like 3 times already, delaying and cancelling. So most realistic option: Live delays and then cancels.
At best we get some good roster updates, maybe they even throw in the animation updates and stuff they were originally working on for Live 20.
Sad to say, but it is what it is.Comment

As for it never being done before, nothing has been done before it’s been done.2016 NLL Champion Saskatchewan Rush

Re: Live Devs finally say something
For whatever it's worth, after picking up every 2K from 2002 on forward I recently went multiple years without a basketball game on account of my disappointment with the product. When things began working back in my direction, I began buying again. Perhaps I'm more the exception than the rule, but there are folks out there like me.
I can understand why some like it, but it’s not for me anymore. I think 2K’s game is deeper, but Live’s The One mode is a million times more fun, for me.Comment

Re: Live Devs finally say something
I had a dream they finally came out and showed some Live 20 gameplay. haha. It was good. At first, it looked like 19, but they cleaned up the animations so much it was like holy crap. They cleaned up the rebound animations and dunk animations. They made it so that going to the rim was more interesting, like you didn't get automatically caught in an animation if you met a rim protector, there were like branching animations, so like you could go chest to chest with them and then hit right stick to go for a double pump dunk, but they could hit right stick that direction too to block you still.
Doesn't really mean anything, but it was funny nonetheless. I was like wow live... oh it really is 19.5, then I saw the nuance and realized how much better it was. I wonder... if it will happen like that. HMM.
Edit: might be the fact that I'm prol gonna re-up my PSN soon that's got me thinking about Live. Time to crush some kids. Christopher Lambert laugh.

You're right, I'll probably buy 2K20 and NBA Live 20 if it comes out. Calm down. I said nothing that required a hostile passive-aggressive response.Comment

Re: Live Devs finally say something
I bought both this year and had extensive time with both. Enjoyed NBA Live's upgrade system but the gameplay is just too wonky for me. NBA 2K is obviously the superior product but the grind is unbearable (as well as the community).

Said it a million times, but if you're lucky enough to get in a game with 9 other (shoot, even 6) people who have some understanding of real basketball, it doesn't feel so wonky.
I mean it's still wonky, but it's immersive. People spacing the floor right, making the right pass, pushing the break right. Getting back into it now that i paid for ps+.
Cuz like for instance, you don't see as many canned blocked animations without people trying to force awful dunk attempts. Etc etc. In like 2007, 2k was obviously superior, in 10, i felt Live was obviously superior. Thru like 16, 2k was superior (good 2k gms + bad/no Live games.) 18 had some flair to it, and some parts regressed in 19, but overall, 19 is better IMO.
I really can't say say with conviction that 2k is obviously the superior product anymore (will have to see Live 20.)
Def enjoy playing older 2ks vs the computer when I'm relaxing though.
Online, I feel they both have their bizarre-o world instances. And Live is really competitive and cut throat in a way that 2k isn't, when people know what they are doing. Of course, you end up with games where both teams shoot 70+%, and I dunno how I feel about that, but it has to do with the game not artificially lowering percentages and the ability, like in real basketball, that you can put someone in a position where they have to make a decision (and can exploit them either way, in a lot of instances, if you're smart about it.) It just unfolds a lot faster than 2k. You can relentlessly punish people in Live. But there are weird animations and outcomes, sure.

Re: Live Devs finally say something
With EA getting 2k's Rob Jones and Scott OG, they have to be planning for a next gen release in the future. But, we haven't heard a peep since they canceled Live 20 and promised to keep us updated. I have no problem with them taking this year off to build from the ground up for next gen. But, I want to know that the series is alive and well. I'm not sure about EA's NBA license since 2k renewed theirs in Jan 2019 for 7 years 1.1 billion dollars. EA has the pockets and don't see them wanting to give up that license, but do they want spend that money for a struggling franchise.
Even if next game doesnt come out until next year(hopefully), they have to at least mention something about future plans. I feel if they don't say something before this year is up, many will feel that the series is cancelled as well. As a consumer, I like competition and I like having options. I want Live to come back and be successfulComment
