My guess is that the pandemic made this an easy decision, regardless of what they do going forward. I have no idea what licensed sports game sales will be as we move into a world without sports.

Before investing anymore in Live, I would want to look at the effect on other sports games. It would be dumb to try and launch a game with almost no following under these circumstances.

They are better off going with games that are more established, and seeing what happens to them. For all we know, spirts game sakes will go through the roof, making it easier to profit on games, even if you can’t reclaim market share.

They will see what NHL, UFC, Madden, and NBA2K do, and then decide if Live 22 can be a thing.

I am so sick of people saying go NBA street. First it was a completely different team that created street and the two games do not share any mechanics. All the basketball games out there now are basically arcade games as it is so why should we want an even more arcadey game to be our next choice. How about we get a game this is actually a SIM. I have been playing Session, that skateboard game which feels like a real sim. It can be very difficult to master and play but once you start getting better it becomes unbelievably rewarding. Imagine a basketball game that acts like a sim, where the ball is truly loose and having to protect it and make the right decisions. sure there would be a ton of turnovers at first. But skillful players would learn and master it and create a huge gap between them and players that have not put the time in, just like in real life. I want something that feels real.

NBA live 20 is dead. nba live 21 is roadkill, also canceled. I told you ea you should have made another nba jam, especially for the nintendo switch. NBA Jam mobile was one of the most popular mobile titles so you should have made it for the nintendo switch. Leggo

Both NBA Street and NBA Live are dead franchises that have not been relevant for a decade.

I agree. It's pretty much known that the unannounced sports games is UFC 4. Is EA really going to allow Live to take two years off to fully focus on next gen?. 2k signed their deal last year, we still haven't heard anything from Live. EA has deep pockets, but are they really going to sign a 7 yr 1.1 billion deal for NBA(don't see NBA giving EA a discount) especially after doing Madden's deal when Live has struggled for an entire decade.

I feel that EA should at least say something about the status of NBA Live series. Even if it is the same PR statement" We're still hard at work on building a NBA from ground up for next gen consoles". If we get to point where it gets to Sept and 2k releases and still no word from EA, people are going to think the series is indeed canned. We still haven't heard anything about EA renewing NBA license. All I could find online is that EA and 2k got their license renewed in 2011 at the same time. So i would expect that they were on the same license timeline. We would have heard something if EA renewed their deal. EA has the pockets, but are they really going to do a 7 yr 1.1 billion deal for a series that only released 5 games after 2010.

I really want NBA Live to strive. As a consumer, I like having options and I like games having competition. I don't like it being essentially one major AAA sports game per sport. I like the old days where we had several sim and arcade options. Heck I still prefer "The One" setup over MyCareer. If it wasn't for the poor League experience/gameplay, I would have played Live over 2k those years. They said in the statements that they were going to update us with news, but that was almost a year ago.
If they issues creating a quality sim game, then go back to the arcade market with a reboot of the NBA Street series. I'm sure masses would love a modern take of NBA Street. Treat it like UFC series and make it a 2-3 year release and just add content throughout years. I would buy a remake of NBA Street 2 with modern players. They'll have their own lane and wouldn't have to compete with 2k directly(not considering Playgrounds as a threat at all). A well done NBA Street would sell well.

I liked 19 and especially 18. But EA's decision making has been so weird through the years. It's like they prefer to develop a sub-par game and sell very few units, than team up with someone who can take the game to the top.

I remember seeing an interview with MW and he said sonething about having a vision about howc a basketball game should be developed, while EA had their own vision and would not be willing to change a thing.

It's like EA prefer to lose money than to change their ways.

I don't think there's ever been an AAA title that played itself as hard as Live did in terms of not releasing games and releasing absolute dog-ish games (like imo 07, 08, 11---- til like 18.)

It's almost the logical conclusion that they really aren't trying to succeed, you're right. Which is too bad because their gameplay and engine finally was becoming solid. For pvp that stuff was muah.

If Live 21 doesn't come out at all or is a joke on next gen, that's gonna be like "THE FINAL FACEPALM" for EA Sports Basketball.

At this point, we can safely assume that there won't be a NBA Live 21. But, I still feel they need to make a formal announcement about the future of Live Series. When they canceled Live 20 in late October 2019, they said "We promise to check back regularly with updates...". With the focus of building for next gen consoles. Since then, I don't believe we have gotten any updates. I feel by October they need to make an update about what the future will look like. Even if it is something like "We are not releasing this year, but we are hard at work building a new quality experience for next gen consoles and have plans on releasing a title next year". I do feel like they need more than a year to build from the ground up for next gen.

As with Madden, 2k needs competition. While flawed, Live was finally heading in right direction. If they worked on core gameplay and depth in modes, it would be a quality game. I still prefer The One approach over MyCareer. As a gamer, I like having options..

Yea, I liked 18 and 19 both pretty decent. They weren't great games but worth getting after a price drop. I hope they can come back on some level in the future. I also loved the Street series back in the day. I don't know, I haven't liked a 2k since 2k17 so as a basketball gamer things aren't too good nowadays. I've mostly been playing older titles, Live 19, 2k17, and even NBA Live 2004, which is my all time favorite.
