I agree with Killroy. I don't know why people think games need to have Live's freestyle control. I think the pivot mode in 2k3 is a good idea, and would fit in ID nicely, but no overrated crossover moves are needed.

And the only reason you can't get to the rim everytime you do a crossover or spin move is because the help defense is EXCELLENT. It's not about the moves themselves as it is about the defensive AI being some of the best out there.Comment

I think what would really solve the problem of not always being able to shoot by the defense is adding a whole new animation.
We have backin up while posting up. But we dont have "backin" up with the body while driving.
You know when you fake to the left, have the defender jump that way, and then shoot by to the right. the defender runs with you, keeps a hand on your body, and you kinda have your body slanted to the left (the ball in your right hand) as you drive to the basket.
This would help the offensive player create more space while driving and be a more realistic way of "gettin" by a defender."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: If ID 2004 added a \"Freestyle control\" ...........
Talk about being narrow-minded. The freestyle control is more than just an "overrated crossover". It's just stupid to say such a thing. it adds sophistication to the game, and yet people are deriding it just because it's not perfect from the outset? Live 2003 is flawed even without the freestyle control. It's not that the freestyle control makes Live 2003 such a joke. It's that the inherent design of Live 2003 IS a joke. They made it into a freaking fastbreak affair rather than have them properly execute halfcourt plays. This isn't the fault of their new system, it's the fault of their gameplay choices. I think the freestyle control is a huge step forward as far as b-ball sims go and ID 2003 SHOULD eventually implement it.
Frankly, I think Live 2003's defense is actually BETTER than NBA 2k3's and ID 2003's in some aspects. There's more pressure applied against opponents in bringing the ball up. Constant double teams are used at times to cause turnovers, etc. This should be improved for both ID 2003 and NBA 2k3.Comment

Re: If ID 2004 added a \"Freestyle control\" ...........
Neo, please let's not start name calling for any reason. I never said that the freestyle was a joke, I said it was overrated. It's my opinion. I can only speak about what I've senn, and played, and that feature doesn't make or break a game for me. I think any bball game could survive, and still be exciting without it. It doesn't seem like this is the only option for the future of games, and it doesn't bother me either way. ID wouldn't be taking a turn for the worst if they never used it. I just think it's overrated right now, and until I see it being able to be used the right way, I stand with that. I could be wrong, but it's the way I feel about it.Comment

About the timing thing. I think it would be perfect if ID had a freestyle control, but it would be a timing thing to get past your defender. It's very hard to describe how you do get past your man in ID. In the low post sometimes you'll spin, you'll get stopped by your defender, but if you take a couple steps forward in the right direction your in there for a dunk or layup. Other times you'll spin and cannot go either way around him. 90% of the time crossovers do not get you past your man, when you do it's usually when your defender attempts a steal and they hardly ever get burned on this. I do love how ID does this.Comment

Re: If ID 2004 added a \"Freestyle control\" .......
I posted about this whole "freestyle control" revolution and how it's just nonsense. EA came up with the idea, and it's going to STAY a EA idea. NBA 2K4 and ID 2004 will probably enhance their moves, but they're not going to copy EA's controls. Besides, a lot of the moves in stuff in Live are very unrealistic, what I mean by that is, watch a actual NBA game, guy's don't do that many crossovers, spins, etc. to get to the basket.
Fine for EA, leave OUT of the sim games.Comment

Re: If ID 2004 added a \"Freestyle control\" .......
I think Freestyle control is an excellent idea, and will be implemented in probally all future bball games. It frees up an extra control pad button that can possibly be used for another cool function. The freestyle control is great in Live 2003 and is implemented quite well. The problem with live however lies in the defense. Playing defense on Live is an absolute joke.
The moves that are in NBA Live are used in the NBA, the rate at which they are used is left totally up to the user. You can do a billion crossovers a game with any game you play but it is b/c you choose to do it. If you like to play a more realistic game then this isnt a problem.Comment
