ID Sonics + which team are you using / strategy?

I am enjoying this game so much that I decided to re start and play an 82 game season. (I bascially only play b-ball games and my wife is going to do some further studies...so... the whole season it is. Once any of you are married you'll appreciate this for the rare opportunity it is. The married guys will know what I mean )

I'd already played a 1/4 length season using Detroit and I've played plenty of individual games using most teams.

I started the 82 gamer using Seattle. I like their style and I love using GP to back down smaller PG's and roll to the hoop or kick it out to BB.

However, 5 games in and I am 1 and 4. I have been caned on the boards every game and I absolutely cannot control anyone in the paint.

This is very different to using Detroit...where I'd average about 8-10 blocks a game with Wallace + Cliffy. Using Seattle I am averaging 3, and even they are normally swipes by guards.

I love this as it's realistic. Seattle's real weakness is it's inside game. They have little inside offense except for Lewis. When Evans and Booth are on the floor together...it's brick city when I play. However, I need to do something or I am looking at a longgggggg losing season. (or restarting with another team)

What team is everyone using and how are you adjusting to mis matches llike the Sonics lack of an inside game?

    How are everyone's seasons progressing?

I had a season goin on the Nets and boy is their shooting terrible.

I had to basically play like the Nets to be successful. Drive with Kidd, dish to the open man in the baseline, throw an alleyoop, or just fastbreak and hope I don't have to get into a halfcourt offense. The team just couldn't knock down an outside shot.

And i'm the type of player that likes to move the ball around and find the open man. But I couldn't do that with the Nets. I found myself playing a different style of basketball. I had to penetrate to force a defender away so I could find an open player. I had to get Jefferson and Martin inside, driving through the lane to get them some points. Even with that, I was shooting like 38% regularly with the Nets.

The only reason I stopped is b/c for some reason Inside Drive, saving a season, and my XBOX don't mix.

yeah the nets are more of an "alley oop" team lol almost every time i play with them jkidd gets triple doubles...BTW, man does K-mart suck at shooting all he does is dunk. i just finished playing a season with the sonics, and we got to the playoffs but we got beat 3 times with the suns 3 times straight by 30 points it made me pissed but oh well, i will never play a season with the sonics. I think the celtics will be my next pick

yeah season mode is just different than single game. in season mode teams play a little smarter and the AI will adjust to your tendencies a little better.

but don`t feel too bad i started a season with Rockets and lost 5 strait... but i`m now 7-5...so i won 7 strait games!

the best thing to do is before you play a team think about what they`re going to do... for example- if you`re playing the Spurs you might want to double team duncan..

also look at the attributes of each team before you play them. i always look for the weakest defender and i attack him early and often!

also about rebounds-- here`s where coaching comes into play! you need to set your rebounding to either normal or high i usually set it to normal so i can get fast breaks a little easier and this helps out a lot!

even if you set it to low and the AI takes a bad shot chances are you will have a fast break the other way. but fast breaks usually happen when the AI takes a bad shot. so i try to bait the AI into taking bad shots like leave a guy open for a few seconds and then when he gets the pass and puts it up he sometimes misses it and i get a fast break...

it`s all strategy... just try different tactics and don`t do the same stuff over and over!

EDIT: and you can also adjust your player tendency slider like if you want "JUST" your PF to look for more rebounds just move a slider and he will look for more rebounds etc..etc..

Thanks KillRoy. I am deep into the tactical side of it myself, so I have been trying various D's...using some zone...and double teaming the oppositions main man.

I think it's another effect of the games realism...that you HAVE to play similar to the real NBA team. YankeePride is spot on with the Nets, you have to use the style they play to do well. Taking a lot of J's with Jefferson and Martin isn't advisable. Then again, half those guys points in the NBA come off dunks + put backs...so it's correct.

It's a cool feature...makes it much more relaistic.

It just also makes it hard to use lesser teams. Seattle are just horrible on the boards and have hardly any inside O at all. In the real NBA they are 23rd in boards (LAST in the past 10 games) and don't have any centre or PF (except Lewis, who also plays SF) averaging much more than 10 points a game.

Being a west coast team also makes it hard as it's a tough season. I am going to go east coast and play as either Philly or Boston. I've played a lot of games previously with the C's and Walker is great to control as he has a tonne of moves. I'll probably use Philly though and get AI coming off picks and screens and post up DC and Kenny Thomas a bit. They don't have much in the way of three point shooters so I won't shoot from long range much... probably a good move for me as I tend to jack up too many three's

Alright, the sonics strength is shooting.....so work the ball around and shoot it.....seriously, Radmanvic and Barry are arguably the best 3pt shooters in the league, Rashard is a great shooter, Payton is as well, and Mason is right with them. You should be able to put up 100+ points a night depending on there ratings. If I were you I would use Payton, Barry, Mason, Lewis, Radmanvic and just shoot and run the fast break like crazy.

I use the sonics, but I also edited Drobnjak so he could hit long range jumpers when he's open (because he should be able to). It's nice to get a little bit of production out of the frontcourt. Only maybe 10 points, but it's something.

well my streak ended at 9... and wouldn`t you know it i lost to the sonics. i probably would`ve won but i made a bad mistake at the end of the game!

i was down by about 2 points with about 15 secs left so i went into the coaching menu and set the intentional foul to 'ON'

sonics bring it in and i foul them and put them on the line. (14 secs left) they mis one and now i`m down by 3.. i bring it up court and Cat Mobley nails a three.. the game is tied with about 3 secs left. they inbound the ball and they get fouled right away!!

                            NOOOOOO!!!!

i forgot to turn off the intentional fouls... but i will take the loss and learn from it! in this game you don`t have to mess with the intentional fouls that often because the AI does a VERY good job of fouling people at the right times.

i just turned it 'ON' this time because it didn`t look like they were gonna foul when i was down by 2. but from now on i will be more careful!!

and Monkey- how`s your 3 point percentage when you use the C`s? i`ve been throwing up a lot bricks in season mode but single game i shoot a decent percentage.

is it just me or is this game harder in season mode?
