Another comment/question. What is your simmed quarter length? Through just simming seasons at 12 and at 11, I feel that the "real" NBA falls exactly at 11.5 . 12, and scores are too high, and Triple Doubles seem a dime a dozen. 11 min, and teams will not average over 100 pts per game through the season (where in real life, only 2 or so do). I'm guessing though that 11 is probably closer. If that is the case, then 9 min quarters would be fine, and work. But try to just sim a couple of seasons, using 11 and 12 min, and let me know what you find.

I'd go with 11 for sim length. Averages in my league are from the high 80s to high 90s. The extreme ends you see in the real league aren't there, but the overall average is just about right. Plus, individual averages are fairly close.

I play on Veteran (still learning), with 9 minute quarters and 2 pts down 1 notch for me and the CPU. Scores are a little higher -- tend to have games in the 90s or low 100s -- but I like having a little too much scoring than a little less scoring. It's like my games are how I wish the NBA was, if not how it is exactly.

Thanks for the info, I think you are right about the quarter length. I won't be able to test things out till tomorrow, but everything sounds good!

I guess everyone likes to turn down 3's....what am I missing? The cpu and I both frequently have streaks of missing 7-10 three's in a row. In my Mavs season, Michael Finley stinks out loud; and I found it's best to have Nash or Dirk take just about every shot.

Clearly, there aren't enough fouls....but to make it even worse, on the rare occasion where a foul is called, it's on a made basket 90% of the time, and rarely just a 2 shot foul.

I only turned it down 1 because mediocre players were ALWAYS making wide open shots off of me.It could have been due to somewhat lackluster defense on my part.

We'll see though. These are just preliminary sliders. I don't think i'll ever really find a solid "medium".

The game changes game by game. It's real tough finding perfect sliders.

I'll play a few more games after work to clarify any issues.

After playing another game, I find that it's basicially impossible to get anywhere near 20-30 FT attempts a game. I've tryed numerous methods and strategies, and I can't get past 16 FT attempts in one game.

It's not impossible. It's just hard to do it. There are a couple of reasons why ID 2003 is not that great at simulating fouls, but it can be fixed. One thing is, some NBA players try to ATTACK the defense. They don't just go for the easy shot, they try to draw the foul and get to the line. Especially when they're bricking their shots and they're exhausted, or when they're down a huge deficit and need to stop the clock. ID 2004 needs to account for this. Another thing is that while there's a lot of bumping going on in the paint (you can actually feel the controller vibrate so there is contact being made, it's just not being called for fouls), they just need to increase the foul sensitivity and account for blocking/charging fouls from that little semicircle under the basket. When players go up for a dunk or layup, or just lean in to shoot. The AI needs to pump fake more as well. I can get to the line a lot easier than the AI can. One way to combat this is to force the AI to shoot a higher percentage than you, forcing yourself to apply more pressure on the D and make it much more important to stop the offensive player from scoring. Intentionally foul them on the fastbreaks to keep them from getting into a running game against you, etc. The AI needs to be adjusted for this as well. But I have gotten 20-30 FT attempts from time to time. Sometimes the AI will get to the line 20 times, but it's rare. Also, I've noticed that the player is usually a strong finisher despite getting fouled. And 1's happen way too frequently which effectively halves the trips to the line. This should be looked into more, IMHO.

You're right about the "solid medium" sliders. The nice thing about this game is that there will be a game where you can't miss, but the next one, your oppent will absolutely stuff you. Moreso than anything, ID sliders must be done by using averages, and it seems like the prevailing theory concerning initial setup for the sliders is the 2pt sliders down 2 notches and the 3pt sliders down 1, and I agree. The rest of them though is really a crap shoot, and totally depends on who has their game on when you play. I really wanted to like the default settings, and they are really good, and after 10 games my only real complaint with them is that shooting is always too high (winner usually shoots mid, upper 50s, loser upper 40s). Anyway, but I think the other sliders (deke, dunk, etc) are difficult to figure out. More based on experience. My advice if anyone wants to start their franchise, find the time settings EXACTLY like you want them (since you can't change them), change the 2pt and 3pt sliders like Wally said, then just "add to taste" so to speak. But big props to Wally for laying the groundwork

Re: Tweaked slider settings for Inside Drive 2003.

Yeah. It is a crap shoot basicially, because I only really took into account, when I played those games, Shaquille O'neal.

I know his real life limitations and he cannot do some of the things he is doing.

I just lowered the hookshots rating and the Dekes for both parties (CPU and USER) because I didn't want all of my settings at default while the CPU had an unfair advantage. Therefore everything is set at the same level.

                                Some examples.

Shaquille O'neal was catching the ball at the FT line, dribbling between the legs, deke's around Adonal Foyle, and dunking it home. He is still dominant with the new settings but He no longer is effective at dekeking around guys.

The dunk rating is down 3 notches yet I still see an array of dunks being performed by multiple players. I do however see a slight change. The change is, big time Dunkers can no longer dunk over 4 guys from 10 feet away. With these new settings in effect, the dunkers can only dunk over 2 guys, 6 feet away.

All these sliders don't decrease the fun, they just make the game as a whole more realistic.

I will play a game with teams other than the lakers and warriors and see if these new theories hold true.

Like hooligan stated, the 2pt. and 3pt. changes are a given, but everything else is up in the air.

Maybe I can straighten it out with a few games with teams around the league.
