Re: The Perfect Jumpshot (book/site)
Well, small hand is the thing that prevents me from dunking more consistently. I'm 6'2 and able to dunk, but the problem is that when I try to slam the ball into the hoop, it usually flies out of my hand because at the top of my leap I lose control over it. I'm also skinny - so my fingers are skinny and I probably have less of "contact area" with the ball. It's driving me crazy - I see people with smaller hands who can hold the ball a lot better than me. That's annoying!
But ehh...I haven't played in 32 months(!!!) so I'm totally out of it by now. All the guys are now married/+kids and they don't play b-ball anymore or swiched to tennis (WTF???).
Anyway, I used to shoot very consistently in decent FG% even though I can't really catch the ball. But I guess I could have shot better if I had larger hands. My Specs:
ZX Spectrum
CPU: Z80 @ 3.5 MHz
GPU: Monochrome display
RAM: 48 KB
OS: Sinclair BASICComment

I also had a nice stroke going on last night. I just wish I could shoot going right again. Once I tore my ankle up I can't get any lift off it.Comment

Re: The Perfect Jumpshot (book/site)
Here is my shot explained verbally. afterward you will know why I like to wear the number 3.
square up legs and shoulders.
arms
1: ball at right hip
2: ball above right shoulder
3: ball gone. (when I release I pretend im reaching my fingertips up and over the rim..like into a cookie jar)
legs
during 1: compress
during 2: jump
during 3: kick out for extra oomph(shout out to Reggie M)
and land in the same spot with shoulders and legs still squared. its all about consistency (by eliminating unnecessary movement) for me. i keep elbow in as much as possible but once I get into shooting motion it is kind of a hybrid. my little 1,2,3 thing helps when playing too because it limits your thought process. I say the numbers in my head while playing. I also like the double meaning when im taking a 3-pointer
the best tip i ever heard was a quote from Larry Bird. he said when you are shooting... look at/aim for the point on the rim exactly opposite from where you are. really helped my free throws too.Texas. Football. All. Day.Comment
