Why you would read that drivel to get a fair opinion is beyond me. It's the same thing with EVERY sports game with him. He sims them until he breaks them or does the same play over and over again until it breaks. He's a glorified QA tester, not a gamer.

Same thing when NCAA Football came out, he loved it for a day, bashed it for a month. People bought into his bull**** too, why? God only knows. I've been playing NCAA for 3 months now, must be a terrible game <sarcasm intended>.

People, play the games for yourselves, read the impressions, try the demos, whatever, but make the decision on which game is better by yourself, not what someone else tells you. Only you can actually say if you like the game or not.

There's no crime in saying "I like Live better" or "I liked 2K better", nor do I know why either side has to bash the other game. We actually have 2 great basketball games, what other sport can say that, 2 great games in the same year? If anything, we should be thrilled by this, not arguing or at odds all the time.

That's a great point. People preach about the importance of competition and how evil exclusive licenses are, but at the same time, when there's multiple games to choose from, it seems there's more energy put into the bickering instead of exploring the options.
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.

I prefer a Sim type game but found NBA2k8 too hard (meaning any team can just score on me at will and I miss constantly) is NBA2k9 easier as far as defending? Or would Live be a better pick?

I hate to be the one that has to even think about defending an EA game, but as imperfect as it is, its still fun.

No it's not 2k9, but who gives a rats butt about that? Who wants 2 of the same games anyhow

As much as alot of these game company fanboys yell out how they need competition, they love to choke any of the life out of anything that isnt their favorite. It's ignorant and its silly to make posts trying to get people to stay away from another game as if it's your money.

People are trying to make decisions with their money asking for good advice and we have all of these posters who don't have the game, and these wanna be homemade bug finders lying about what the game is all about.

Alot of you guys will never be satisfied with any game because you pick and scratch like girls at every little thing and seem to have forgotten what its like to sit down and play a videogame for fun.

I own both games and I think they're both worth buying this year. All of these liars and fanboys giving you cheesy blog opinions and having convulsions over a review score need to be ignored as much as hacks like the goons on IGN telling 2k that they need to scrap plays out of their games that brought up that trash 2k4.

NBA Live has lots of potential but its not going to be a mountain top game overnight and if you expect that then youre unrealistic.

The DNA 365 thing is something all sports games like these probably need in teh future, because no matter what lies you hear play the game for yourself and see.. and this thing cannot be fully judged until the season is well into the schedule anyhow.

Im just sick of seeing the crap posts in here. You know who you are lying telling people this is an arcade game when you know good and well it has the best playcalling system of all 3 games.

I hate the kind of crap this time of the year brings to the boards.
          Awesome, well thought out post.
If the forums were full of entries like this, OS would be Shangri La.
you are the best poster since the farrah fawcett charlies angels one back in the 70's.

Trust me, if you don't have skills....read basketball IQ, you will hate 2K9 offline.....Online, the default is all-star but 2K takes a lot more of the strategic elements and puts them to use.....The game has some bullsh*t in it but, hands down its the more realistic, strategic of the two......I mean, every player has signature everything, Lebron dribbles like Lebron, shoots like him, passes like him, plays D like him, everything......If you're a hardcore NBA fan, I don't see how you could think Live is better......Live is a fun game but thats the keyword. What is your definition of fun? To me, its how close does the game resemble the style, strategy and emotion of the NBA and its hands down 2K....

Geezus dude you just nailed right there... I was playing both demos back and forth last night and for some reason I want to play Live more too, it has me puzzled because I think 2K is the better game besides few annoying things, but both games have it.
I for one will be looking for the one that has better online because this is where I'll be spending most of my time but will also want to play the full season offline as well.

                what is " realistic"

personally both games can give you whatever you want out of them IF people would stop complaining and bashing and tailor the game to what they like......

i can give you 5 elements for both titles that as they say here " must be patched" or " thats unrealistic"

i am glad they play differently i am glad they get realeased every year .........

I had 2K last year and while I liked the game it just bored me for some reason. I played the demo this year and I felt that same boredom so I switched to Live and while Live is far from perfect I get good, competitive games that are fun. Teams run realistic offensive sets for their stars so overall im happy.

I have a question for you guys.

Should I trade in 2K9 for Live???

Im an online player and I have heard that the 5 on 5 is much more polished and entertaing on Live.

My 2K9 just freezes constantly and have yet to complete any type of game online.

                    What should I do???

rent Live first, and jump online with it to see if you like it before you spend 60 bucks. i here that 5v5 is great; once my blockbuster gets there rental copies in, i will see for myself.

Yeah 2k is real hard, thats why I got NBA 09 the inside this year as well. Ive been playin it constantly the learning curve on it is way easier and its just a lot of fun. It also has some cool sh*t like conquest mode, mini games and my personal favorite the life. Which is just too much fun IMO.

I'm not trying to turn this into a live vrs 2k because i actually like both, but you dont need to have a ridiculous basketball iq to understand what going on in nba 2k i mean my 11 yr old brother doesnt know squat bout basketball and was pretty good in 2k8, the only thing different bout both games is 2k has stroger animations, and the controls in 2k especially this year arent as user friendly as lives.

And i no I'm gonna get some hate for saying this but I'm just keeping it real 2k9 out the box with out touching sliders plays at times like a straight up arcade, the game can straight up become a highlight reel with alleys every where and superstars and even bench warmers playing like gods.

I do think Madden and NCAA have underachieved of late (I'm not alone on that front) but I don't see how that places me in the ***** camp.

Anyway, 2K9 is the more polished game visually but I have really only just started playing it.

NBA Live is far, far better than it has been since NBA Live 2000. But it's not there yet. The AI is a bit weak on defense, particularly in the post, as it refuses to adapt to what you're doing and the animations are still too stiff. Much better game that is moving in the right direction, but I'd rather play NBA 2K8 -- let alone 2K9. I think the Live devs just had too much to do in one cycle to get where 2K is when it comes to basketball. Again, this is assuming 2K9 continues where 2K8 left off.

I was thinking about NBA 09, I like the shooting meter. I think it gives me some kind of control over what 2k9 and Live have. 2k9 I think I will skip this year on console (maybe Ill get the PC version) its just too difficult - I played NBA2k8 just to see if I could get the hang of it and was down by 9 before I could blink. Last game I remember that I had fun with was Live 06 (PC). This year its all about fun, I dont think I have been able to finish a basketball season since TV Sports Basketball on Amiga. Something usually happens that pisses me off or I just feel like I am getting cheated.

I think once video games become too real, they are no longer fun. You guys go on and on about how sports games are not real enough for you, but once somebody nails it to being so real, it no longer becomes a game. Yes, a little realism is good, but complete reality would make sports games no longer entertaining.
