Not possible to play both games this season?

I am really enjoying both the LIVE 10 demo and the Draft Combine...

But switching between games is absolutely killing me control wise...LIVE's controls are completely different to 2K's this season.

To really get the most out of it people are going to have to put in a lot of time mastering the controls...but that's hard to do if you switch games a lot. Even something like drawing a charge is completely different in both games.

I am going to try and decide on one game pre release and dedicate myself to it for a while. It's going to be a tough choice this season. A good choice to have to make though

I usually just play each game 6 months apiece. Just choose 1 and play that, then play the other later... Its a great problem to have : )

Yeah the controls are getting so deep it's getting real tough to be able to swap between the two. I'll get both at launch and try to play both for the first few weeks or so then i'll 'pick' one and play that to death for a few months. Once the shine starts to wear off i'll swap over to the other game and flog that to death as well.

So glad that this is a problem though!

With real life tendacies, dynamic dynasty / in depth association, my player, sliders, user created rosters, online modes etc these game present outstanding value for money for me personally. For $200AU i basically have at least the next 6 months of my entertainment needs taken care of.

I'm certainly going to try.Going with Live on the PS3 and 2k on PC. The player likeness issue with 2k has me placing my faith in the editing community

I expect a little control confusion, but I can't see ignoring either title this year

Honestly....I think think the Draft Combine is just about the best pure basketball game i've ever played.

By that I mean that they've just absolutely nailed the fundamentals.

NBA 2K10 is going to be something special.

Despite this...I am a massive "playbooks" guy and have waited pretty much over a decade for a game to have legit / authentic playsets. The fact LIVE 10 has these........I can see myself starting a season with LIVE and investing a tonne of time there.

I agree that the gameplay in the Combine is very very good but they need to fix the controls (or lack there of) for it to be truly great imo.

It's still way to difficult to maneuver your player around the court than it should be and that is very clear in the drills. If they can combine the awesome gameplay with the amazing dunk/layup animations and sharpen up the control the user has over their player this will be by far the best hoops game ever made imo.

I've been going back and forth. They're just to different in regards to controls. I love the combine because the way the ai plays the game. Just so real and life like. But, I'm with you CV on these playbooks.

It's a great issue to have but, it's gonna be a hard choice on which to invest my time.

Re: Not possible to play both games this season?

I so glad I'm not the only one with this extreme feeling of indecisiveness.

For the past 4 years, it's been no question what game to get. And that was NBA 2K. And even though I was able to afford both game I felt that there was no need to get both because the 2K series was that good and Live was that bad.

Now that Live has come full circle, I'm really reading these boards carefully and looking at every video for both games. After playing the demo, the Live series has returned to it's status as a respectable basketball and not a cross between NBA Jam and Double Dribble. And even though the 2K series has rested on it laurels, it's still a solid game. BUT with Live being the game that it is, it's like a breath of fresh air. I cannot believe Live has turned the corner.

I've been a 2K purchaser for the last 4 years BUT Live is pulling me in this year.

Honestly monk, this is the first time that I think we've ever disagreed on anything. After playing the demo, I'm just honestly not feeling it whatsoever. If that gameplay is "near" the same as the retail version, then it's not too big of a leap from last year. Don't get me wrong, it's a definite improvement, and some of the things that we've needed have been improved upon...but overall, I feel like it's more of the same. I'm getting it... and I think it does warrant a purchase as it's still a very playable title though.

I played the demo for the vast majority of the evening, and then went back to Live, and the controls were WAY off, when I went back. I will have to have one and ONLY one title to play for a while. It took me 2 full demo games of Live to get back to my fluent stick skill ways.

Overall, I don't think you can go wrong this year, but myself, I have a big time feeling that Live will be getting the most of my time this year.

But I definitely agree, you can't switch back and forth. WAY too different feeling.

See, with me, because the controls are so much different between the 2 games I have an easier time going back and forth between the two. It's when the controls are the same but the game plays different is when I have a problem.

i never buying 2 games of the same sport (other than 1 college & 1 pro). It makes no sense for me because it then becomes pretty much impossible to get through a dynasty or a single season.

Re: Not possible to play both games this season?

I like to play 12 minuted quarters and I was/am able to get realistic scores in 2k9. I don't have time to get into 2 games anymore. I'm still trying to win the title with the heat in 2k9. I'm up 2-1 on the lakers. They won the 1st game in miami at the buzzer and I was able to take the next two with some lock down defense and starting joel anthony-PF and j oneal-C (good times).

And I've never thought buying 2 games made sense for sports games anyway because of the yearly turnover.(that's just me tho) I will go with 2k10 this year. The 2k10 gameplay videos look awesome and more polished. Can't wait for the demo and the full version. With nba today, my player mode, and association mode, I won't have time to play nothing but 2k10 anyway. Should be fun.

Re: Not possible to play both games this season?

The way things are looking right now since I play most of my games vs the CPU NBA 2K10 looks like the way to go for me.

I want to see CPU players doing the same type of stuff I'm capable of doing on the floor and from what I've seen the animations in 2k10 are sick they really bring the players to life and the videos have left me in awe seing how the CPU players attack the human player on their own.

Live 10 is looking like a game that I won't enjoy unless it's head to head because the players move so much better when a human player takes control of them. On their own they appear kinda lifeless in a way in which they won't attack you or do the same type of moves a human player will do. I don't fear Kobe beating me off the dribble at all.

Now when i played Live 10 vs a human player the game was a BLAST because I felt like strategy was actually being used and the Playbooks seem to benefit the Human controlled player more than the CPU because IMO they just wasn't doing things based on the playbook.

2K10 from looking at all the videos in the past few days looks like the CPU is going to be more human like just in their movements and behavior on the floor.

Re: Not possible to play both games this season?

From the demos, I think Live 10 is definitely the better head to head game, particularly for the shock to the system that makes you use basketball tactics instead of videogame tactics. 2K10 lessens the effectiveness of some cheese, but Live really hits you with a brick. Of course a cheeser will find a way to cheese eventually, but if your opponent is a baller, he'll switch to basketball tactics once he realizes initial cheese is getting stopped. For CPU play, well i'm waiting on retail for that one.

Both games have their issues and their distinguishing features that make me want them. It kind of boils down to the modes for me:

2K - I'll mainly play NBA Today games & My Player (+ a league if i can get in an OS one)
Live - Dynamic Season and exhibition

Crews/Live Run and Association/Dynasty don't interest me, so 2K comes out on top there. For my purposes NBA Today & Dynamic Season are the same (again for my purposes, meaning the things that Dynamic Season has over NBA Today aren't selling points for me) so 2K has the edge due to My Player. Live is really bringing the angle of all around freshness (although i had 09 from Dec-March), plus great playbooks/playcalling, and ease of minor patching thanks to Dynamic DNA.
