2 words fellas (Mike Wang)..... Last year live was not even mentioned with 2k (you will get laughed at if you were too). Just in 1 year with him on the team makes there product better then previous years of live... Both games are great in there own ways that is what makes this years choice so tuff. The X factor this year I think will be the fun factor.. (Based on both demos/footage) I think the fun factor will go to live 10 IMHO. So to answer the ? I will pick up live 10 this year.

Re: Bottom Line: Live 10 or 2K10?
what's the difference between 2k7 2k8 and 2k9 and 2k10? more animations.
after playing live 10 demo I realized the game is makin me use my real basketball knowledge and not video game knowledge. once I did that I had the most fun ever. real control over dribbles, exactly how I would in real life real contextual logic for getting by opponents and it makes younplay smart. you can't just run into your guy and do behind the back until you slide passed him like in 2k10 and you can't take layups and dunks through people.
there's real defense and blocks of all kinds. although I think both companies lied about run down blocks cause they don't exist as they look in real life.
with live you have intricacies like moving while in charge stance and having control over your pick and roll guy popping out or running in. you also have control over how you want to take a jumpshot.
player momentum and size play a roll on how they get back on defense and of they bite on a pump fake rest assured you won ge blocked.
live 10 is worth $60 and 2k10 should be free for making the same game the passed 4 years. all they add is gimmick presentation and a flood of uncontollable animations then have spiffy trailers to entice fanboys.Comment

Re: Bottom Line: Live 10 or 2K10?
2K AND 2K Only and here's why
I love shot stick
Isomotion isn't as hard as people make it out to be once you learn it
I love 2k animations canned or other wise
V. I. P.
NBA Today feature Love it when momentous gave us a glimpse
Don't care about nba authentic plays, all I care about is does the play make sense and does it work.
I like lead passing
dual player control
I'm an older baller so I'm familiar with the game and it plays a decent game of basketball
I'm curious to see if the high shot % is a case of end user not willing to adjust to how the game is attacking him i.e. turn up the d pressure, tighting the man D, also in a lot of videos on D the end user would mess up the rotation with him switching to the defender nearest the ball often times while switching he had his previous man out of position causing a lot of confusion. One other thing is I saw no anticipation or angle pursuit or attack angles in the videos. It was more run around willy nilly then switch to the nearest defender. Defense demands your attention and lets face its not that many good defensive teams in the NBA. I also want to see the D ratings of the teams and individuals.
One other thing you can't beat how robust the association mode is with all of its features
And lets not forget my biggest reason of all "IN GAME SAVES".Comment

Re: Bottom Line: Live 10 or 2K10?
the thing is, Live has sucked so bad the last few years that since this year is such a drastic improvement, people are acting like its the greatest thing ever. Since 2k has been good the last few years and continuing to be consistant people dont feel like there is much of a change, because there doesnt need to be, so they get tired of the same thing each year and associate that as a worse game.Comment

Live does some amazing things we've never seen before in a video game that bring a realistic element to the table. That's why I'm excited, Live feels more like real life basketball in a lot of regards (not all of course) than any other basketball game I've ever played. I can apply so much real-life basketball knowledge and strategy and it works very well in Live. 2K obviously does this as well to a certain extent but I feel that Live has a pretty significant edge at the moment. There is a more natural, organic feel and flow to Live IMO. I've had so many different types of games in the demo without touching a slider; games that have ranged from me losing 24-8 (Kobe was ice cold) where I shot under 40% and had games where I couldn't miss and everything in between. And the best part is that none of it felt scripted or cheap. Plus Locomotion/momentum is a thing of a beauty.
Different people want different things in a game and I'm willing to bet that 2K10 will be a more complete package this year. But on the court I think Live is going to have an edge and that's always been what's most important to me. There are plenty of fans like backbreaker out there and his list is full of great reasons to play 2K.
Fans of either game can come up with several good reasons why to play one game and not the other - which is great for us to have two good and different options this year."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Re: Bottom Line: Live 10 or 2K10?
To me it basically just comes down to:
2K - looks like real basketball, but doesn't play like it.
Live - plays like real basketball, but doesn't look like it.
I don't care that much about the animations and am more interested in what actually happens on the court. In that regard, Live wins this year for me based on the demos. The $10 price break at the register only sweetens the deal that much more.Comment

Re: Bottom Line: Live 10 or 2K10?
I'm not saying that Live 10 will be a better overall game than 2K10, in fact if I was going to be completely objective and rate every single aspect of both games I'm sure 2K10 would end up with a higher score. Association, all the little things, MyPlayer, animations & sig styles, etc are amazing plus with very solid game play that should be able to be tweaked via sliders to play a very good game of basketball. However I do believe there's alot that needs to be changed from 2K9 in terms of gameplay, I've never given up on a 2K basketball so quickly as I did last year with 2K9, it was a mess on the court IMO.

this is true but i think 2k needs a new engine to revamp things.

Now I have to ask, have you played the final version of both games?
with live you have intricacies like moving while in charge stance and having control over your pick and roll guy popping out or running in. you also have control over how you want to take a jumpshot.
Ok maybe im misunderstanding you but you can have your guy on the P&R come in or just run to the hoop in 2k10, have seen this done in many gameplay videos and you could also do this in 2k9. Control on how you want to take jump shots? theres leaners, fadeaways, turn-aroundjumpers so what kind of other controls are you talking about? You can change up your lay-ups and dunks also.
player momentum and size play a roll on how they get back on defense and of they bite on a pump fake rest assured you won ge blocked.
Players in 2k10 have weight/size to them and momentum is part of game play, bigger players get back slower than smaller faster guys..again your logic seems to be missing here..size plays a roll on if they bite on a bump fake? What do you mean by that? Shaq can bite on a pump fake just as good or bad as Nate Robinson. Again maybe im misunderstanding you..if so help me understand where your coming from.
live 10 is worth $60 and 2k10 should be free for making the same game the passed 4 years. all they add is gimmick presentation and a flood of uncontollable animations then have spiffy trailers to entice fanboys.
Live is worth 60$ to you 2k10 is worth 60$ to me...see how that works out? Its different people liking different things, everybody has an opinion. Your first sentence is kinda funny cause even if it was true Madden has been getting away with that for many years.
Now with all that being said Live has made great strides this year and seems much better than previous years. I do like the control of Live and agree that 2k has been in the past and possibly this year to animation heavy and little lacking in controls..what people call canimation? I just hope both companies continue with the competition.Last edited by Sinner; 10-03-2009, 09:25 PM.-= Never argue with an idiot, they drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.=- Edward MurphyComment

Re: Bottom Line: Live 10 or 2K10?
Sinner........i couldn't have said or wrote that any better. My problem is that I'm a fanboy and hate 2 do it for 9 years straight......but i'll be getting both titles this year. The best thing i can think of right now is thank GOD that Inside Drive's not coming out LOL.
I don't see how people keep hating on others because they like one game more than the other or just period, they like live and not 2k or vise versa......truthfully i can't tell you which demo i like better, but i'll say this......I've played the hell out of both....and i dig how the Lakers attack me. See i play with the Magic alot also.
For you 2k fans with hdtv's , turn the color down like 6 to 15 clicks and brightness down to where the Lakers court is dark purple..... and tell me they don't look real at times. Also try that on 480p 16:9 full screen on both demos and tell me what you think..:wink:Last edited by StankonYa; 10-04-2009, 02:14 AM.Comment

Re: Bottom Line: Live 10 or 2K10?
One reason is swaying me toward Live: Dynamic Season.
I always play my season along with the real life NBA season, so this feature is right up my alley. I completely gave up on Live when I could no longer control every team and play any game I wished during the regular season.
I want to get both, but it kind of seems silly because there's only so much time in the day. That Best Buy deal that was leaked where you could get Live for $50 and Fight Night for $20 really has drawn my interest. Plus, I have a $10 rewards card. After more than eight years on here, I finally figured out how to edit my time zone!Comment

Re: Bottom Line: Live 10 or 2K10?
Aghhh!! Before, I couldn't wait for the 6th to arrive so I can pick up an NBA game, but with both games looking so goood, I'm now dreading the 6th cause it feels like it's gonna be a BIG decision day!I've read all the 2k10 features and love em all, but I also love the LIVE controls and "freshness" of the game. $120 in one day on 2 BB games is just too much. Especially with so many GREAT games coming out this year. The last 2k game I bought was 2k (2000) but I've always been disappointed with my LIVE purchase. The only reason I still buy LIVE is cause I don't wanna learn the new 2k controls (There sooo different!!) and cause they always hype up the game to be a "Better Improvment" then last year BUT we're left disappointed with promises of "next year it will be better". It seams as, many 2k fans are making the switch to LIVE this year and vice versa, I just don't know what to do. I guess my biggest concern with LIVE is one thing: CAN I TRUST THEM FOR ANOTHER YEAR?! sorry guys, i had to vent...

Re: Bottom Line: Live 10 or 2K10?
ehh you spent way too much time on that.
Personally I just did not like the Live demo and I'm going with NBA 2K10. Live played well, but I'm an Association guy and EA sports and their game depth has really dropped off. Next year I'll give Live another chance.
Not hating on Live, it's just not for me.
What I am gonna hate on is the people who bash others for liking one game or another.
Grow the **** up it's a video game

Re: Bottom Line: Live 10 or 2K10?
I'm going with Live. 2k has gone from the sim heads dream to an absolute cheesing disaster. Incredible what one designer(Mike Wang) does to this rivalry. Live is one year away from taking the crown, even though the actual baksetball is better on live, features and presentation will carry 2k for one more year.Comment
