Re: Bottom Line: Live 10 or 2K10?

I am getting both games this year.

2k10 for it's authentic/realistic look, players/teams play like their real-life counterparts. Superstars play like superstars. scrubs play like scrubs.

Live 10 for its overall PURE FUN. It might not be as 'sim' or authentic as 2k10, but damn, it is one FUN game to play.

    Both for me.

If you're undecided, just get both

I don't know. I get the feeling that, gameplay wise, 2K is still going to be better by leaps and bounds. I read on franchisenet that you can't pass out of any type of shooting motion in Live. That sucks. I just watched a 2K10 Lakers-Heat game in Miami on YouTube, and it was easily the best gameplay footage of any game I've seen.

Every 2K video I've seen looks realistic. I've seen a few Live videos that didn't look right.

It's tough because that Dynamic Season could really reel me in.
After more than eight years on here, I finally figured out how to edit my time zone!

You must not be researching because Live's gameplay is sim out of the box this year. 2k on the other hand may look sim (presentation/graphics) but the gamplay is a cheesy and arcadey.

will someone please explain to me when armpit blocks, liberal ignorance of the out of bounds line, no injuries and windmill dunks in traffic became 'sim out of the box'

Re: Bottom Line: Live 10 or 2K10?

Both games can play however you want them to.

If you want to cheese in Live, you sure as hell can.
Want to cheese in 2K? Go right ahead.

You can also play sim in both, it's up to the user, not the damn game.

Both games have strengths and weaknesses.

These debates become pointless because the majority simply look at things from one side of the fence. It becomes "2K is so arcade you is a little kid for liking it" or "Live has robotic animations" or "2K has no control" etc..

Oh well, it's a message board on the internet with anonymity. Feel free to post whatever you guys like!

Exactly man. Always annoys me when people say "Oh, you can't cheese in this game like you can in that game." Man please, you cheese in ANY sports game if you damn well please LOL. Just like you can play sim in ANY sports game if you damn well please. Never understood why people have these dreams of a cheese-proof game or a 100% "sim game". Hate to upset some of you but neither of those are EVER going to come to fruition anytime soon, if ever so there's no need in forcing yourself to wait for it happen.

Re: Bottom Line: Live 10 or 2K10?

I gotta disagree this year. Live 10 is the first game I have played that feels truly sim. While I agree that some players may be able to "cheese" in Live, for the most part you really can't. I doubt you guys have even played Live. You can't windmill dunk in traffic in Live...no way. 2K has become stale gameplay wise....crossover, pass wherever you want without fear of being intercepted, and take it to the paint. Plus, 2k10 has horrible defensive rotations and auto doubles in the post. I think it comes down to one of to things this year. If you want a gorgeous game, with great animations, that plays decent basketball and has a robust franchise...then 2K10 is your game. If you want a game that looks decent, but plays an exceptionally well game of basketball, that will challenge your basketball knowledge, then Live is your game. I got both....so I can't complain either way. Great year to be a basketball fan!!!!

Now that is more helpful. Guys that decided on buying one game before playing both are not of a big help when someone is still trying to decide.

Re: Bottom Line: Live 10 or 2K10?

Well I have both games and they each have some good things going. Live's control of the players actions are definitely better then 2k's this year. 2k just seems so unresponsive. It's almost like fighting against what 2k's auto movement wants you to do. Performing an Alley-op in 2k is better then Live in the respect that it performs a lead pass to the rim vs Live the players jumps up where they are and if they can't make the basket they pull the ball down.

I noticed Live has illegal screens, and 2k has a lot of kick ball calls. Which for a sim user is something you gotta love. One thing about live I don't like is it is almost impossible to get an Inbound steal. The game is almost designed not to let you get it. Live's doesn't have a post button and since I'm a fan of controller customization this was a major let down as they do not give any options for change.

2k pisses me off because Big's still down play like they should. If you got an undersize defender on your hip as a big man; all you need to do is perform at minimum a drop step and a dunk. 2k will make you player do some bogus layup or fadeaway. Live definitely has the Big man game down with the exception of a post button(wtf?!?). With Shaq he over powers his defenders in when he cans and stuffs it home. Other times hes forced to use a hook or another shot against evenly strong guys.

Graphics are just about even. Each has their own flavor but neither is a let down right now. Haven't played online as of yet. But i'll keep ya posted. Oh year and if you set the Atmosphere to Like playoff or finals the arena sound effects are nice Live. Haven't tried that in 2k but I definitely will.

                      I'd say that's a pretty accurate statement.

To me 2K's gameplay isn't stale though. I know many people feel it is, and then there's Live for you which is fresh and new.

I don't agree with the pass where you want and windmill dunk statement. There are a thing called sliders. I will agree out of the box it is very cheesy/arcadish basing my opinion off the demo.

If you play online against randoms and have to use the default sliders that's your own fault. It doesn't affect me one bit.

The issue is in whether the game caters to its own cheesy tendencies. For instance in 2k9, the mid range game had a very low reward, and there was absolutely no reason to take a 20 foot jumper unless it was late in the shot clock. In previous 2k's, there might be a spin move, or pick and roll mechanic that was a money play. This leads to people avoiding core elements of the game to avoid the cheese, which can ultimately feel unrewarding.

I can't speak for 2k10 yet, but the Draft Combine rewards good basketball. It also rewards steal abuse if you're a PG, but you have to work towards that, and choose to play in an unnatural way. That's totally different than attempting something natural and getting a cheesy result.

For instance, running downcourt is natural, but running all over the court all game could either have a cheesy result or a natural result. In 2k10, it has a natural result(fatigue) because of the new turbow meter.

Live 10 has a greater ratio of natural results, and a lower area of high success for unnatural attempts.

I agree with Born, both games play a good game of basketball, but one naturally has a sim edge over the other. Playing 2k online or offline simply turned into one person playing naturally sim and one person playing unnaturally ie: turbo, aggressive stealing attempts, no jumpshots, passes into paint, etc.

This would not be a problem if the unnatural player was not rewarded more than the natural player. Just my opinion and I have been with 2k since 1999. I have always thought that 2k did not have enough balance of 2-pointers vs 3-pointers vs inside post game. There is too much focus on 3-pointers and points in the paint.

BUT GOD 2K LOOKS AMAZING and is probably patchable.
