The "I like live but gone back to 2k" thread

I have been playing live almost exclusively the past two months. I honestly like it, but the various quirks and feeling of being an incomplete game have forced me to trade it in for 2k again.

2k just has many of the small things nailed that are so fundamental to the game of basketball. Live also doesn't have anywhere near the amount of animations it needs to keep a fresh experience all year long. Next year literally needs a few thousand animations, like 2k added this year.

This begs the question, who else has gone back to 2k after playing live extensively for a while?

Never left. I bought both on release day but, 2k has gotten more attention because of the entire package it's offereing. If I don't feel like playing an Assoc game I can play on my player. Although, I wish you could adjust sliders in my player mode it's still nice not to controll everyone on the court.

Live is a really fun and enjoyable game but, it doesn't have enough to keep me playing.

I'm attempting to go back to 2K at the moment, but dayum the controls are brutal. Every time I play 2K10 I eventually turn it off and put in CH2K8.

Right now it's just a huge chore for me to get my guys to do what I want them to do in 2K10. Not giving up though.

Re: The "I like live but gone back to 2k" thread

Was really looking forward to playing a "Dynamic Season" in LIVE...but there's just way too many "WTF" moments in the game + the CPU AI is just way too "limited" to play a full season.

I don't like the controls in 2K...I've never liked Isomotion...but the depth of that game is stunning and it really shines in association and season mode. Every game is so different and you see new things all the time + the CPU AI is stellar.

LIVE is fun for "one off" games. I was really hoping we'd get a complete game this season from EA that was 'season worthy' as I love the spacing + controls. Unfortunately, LIVE is still stuck as a "great fun, but......................." type game.

So, it's 2K for my season...Live for one off fun games. Again

Definitely ready to go "full season" with LIVE if they ever get all aspects right. Seems to be like it's still a long way off though.

Re: The "I like live but gone back to 2k" thread

I'm sorry guys but movement is the most basic aspect that should be perfected and Live has 2K beat. I simply cannot pick up 2K no matter how much better it is because the control is hideous.

The amount of sliding and teleporting makes me sick to my stomach. Isomotion is an auto-control dribbling system that after playing Live feels like someone is drilling a hole in my head.

2K has a lot more than Live but Live has the essentials.

But like Court Vision has said, Live's WTF moments have killed it this year. It's simply an ugly game, you can create dribbles and move realistically but when it comes down to executing plays, executing post moves and dunks and layups, executing fast breaks the game becomes a nightmare and frustrates you to insanity.

Does anyone think instead of this thread we should make a "The Perfect NBA Game" thread and add what each game has that the other doesn't so we can form a list in the case both games merged into one?

I'm not really feeling 2K all that much. If not for teamup with my friends online I woulda traded this joint in already.

I want to add that anyone that is satisfied with one of these titles has serious mental issues. The games are not even close to being good or great, 2K is passable and Live is just a fail.

Don't praise 2K because it does better than a failing NBA Live. It doesn't give any more credibility to 2K.

I've owned the game for exactly six days and logged about ten hours with it and I'm already considering selling it. The controls are just mind-bogglingly bad the more I play. It's very frustrating because this game has Live beat in sooo many areas but as MJ Jr said some of the essentials are really missing. I just fired up another quick game a half hour ago and shut it off already. 2K still lacks the ability to get a truly open jumpshot. The playbooks are useless because guys take so long to set up the play - it doesn't work with a 24 second shot clock even if you call a play the instant you inbound the ball. Plus actually getting your ball handler to where he needs to be is an incredible chore, so many plays just die/break because of this. I basically dump it into the post, call a pick and roll or try to clumsily iso-motion past my defender. Having real limited control over my guys and not being able to run plays is absolutely killing 2K10 for me.

CH2K8 at about 70%, Live at about 30% will probably be my ball gaming fix unless something changes over the weekend with 2K10. This is the first weekend in a while that my girl won't be around so I'll have plenty of time to tweak stuff but I don't know if any slider change is going to help the controls. Plus Live's DNA is getting better and better and in turn so is the game. I dunno, 2K10 might be eBay bound by Sunday evening, that $40 can buy a few small Christmas presents for the fam.

Got 2K on release day, picked up Live for my PS3 before the 2K patch. Live is fun for me for user vs. user online games, but my boy that had it sold live. I've been playing 2K10 and CHoops ever since the patches, my copy of Live literally has dust on it.

Re: The "I like live but gone back to 2k" thread

There's one big thing that I was really hoping LIVE would address in patch 2 and that's the whole "strength" in the post thing.

In LIVE, you can back guys like Shaq and Dwight all the way down with every post guy. Doesn't matter if it's Channing Frye...you suddenly can back down Dwight like you are Sir Charles in his prime. Dwight Howard has no strength. It's ridiculous.

The EA developers got "upset" when I said there should have been more things addressed and claimed "sports games don't get two gameplay patches"...like I was an idiot for expecting it.

Meanwhile...Madden got a second gameplay patch.

So I guess it's just "basketball games" that don't get a second gameplay patch.

I don't see why stuff like being able to back down everyone in the NBA with a 5 foot 8 skinny power forward couldn't have been addressed this year...but that's just me. Maybe I expect too much

Anyway, as the thread is about "liking LIVE, but going back"...for me this is one of the major reasons. Their failure to just address a few basic gameplay issues that would have added so much to the game.

I agree, i've always hated isomotion to the point where i haven't even used dribble moves in 2k for years.

The WTF moments coupled with the limited animation set have forced me to get rid of live. I really wanted to like live and gave it many chances, but every time I just come away disappointed.

That's mainly my only gripe with 2k10. I love everything else, besides for a glitch here and there. NBA 2k10 is insanely fun. There are things I like about Live, but the game lacks so much it's not even funny. Basic basketball concepts like rebounding, post play, and fastbreaks are poorly represented in the game. Live is moving in the right direction, but at a snails pace. At this pace I doubt that Live will ever be as good as 2K. It's not in their "DNA".

ok well that assertion is not very logical. live's dribbling passing and momentum gathers and contextual momentum jump shooting set it ahead more paces than 2k.

if you talk about which game innovated more and how much better than last years live wins in a heart beat

what killed live was a bad QA team or a producer who didn give a rats behind about bugs and glitches which make the game unplayable

once they stop thinking about their paychecks and more about the integrity of their art then they'll not make these mistakes

what sucks for us is we will never have a complete NBA game as long as these fake producers want the new BMWs
