Re: 6'4 and cant dunk
I'm 6'0", white, and can't dunk. I can touch the rim, but my main issue is palming the ball. I simply can't do it. I don't consider myself very athletic, so I was really surprised that I could touch the rim when I first tried it last year. Anyways, my hands are pretty small, which makes it hard for me to throw a football accurately and shoot a basketball well. It also makes it so I can't palm a ball. I suppose I could add another 6" to my vertical leap so I could do a two-hand flush, but that would probably be the only chance I'd have at dunking.
I don't play organized basketball, anyways, so it really isn't a big deal, but it would be cool to dunk.Comment

Your best bet is to workout with power based olympic movements that involve the majority of the major muscle groups.
Squats, Power cleans, hang cleans, etc.
The exercises can initially be done in 2-3 sets of 6-8. This will all you to build up your muscular core.
I would put you on a M and Th routine with Sprint training on Tuesday and Thursday
Eat as healthy as possible, and be sure to get enough rest.
Keep in mind that this is just an idea of what you should do. If you need help setting up an actual workout schedule, drop me a line here. I was able to use this to bring my 26" vertical to a 31" vert. By vert, I mean a cold jump, and not a one step jump.
Most of the 40" verts you hear about are step verts, and not cold verts.Comment

Nash? Maybe, but he was smart enough not to try it during a game. Stockton? Have you seen the guy laying in the ball? He could hardly get to the rim.My Specs:
ZX Spectrum
CPU: Z80 @ 3.5 MHz
GPU: Monochrome display
RAM: 48 KB
OS: Sinclair BASICComment

Re: 6'4 and cant dunk
Yea bro, got to work on leg and core strength. Also, work on jumping...u can have powerful legs but they are meaningless if u dont work on jumping itself. I started dunking when i was 13 @ 5'8''....im 6'3'' now...
lil something, I'm in light blue bottoms.

As for TheProfessor, like another poster just asked, I would be curious as to what his age may be. Some people just need some time to grow into their body.Comment

Re: 6'4 and cant dunk
You need to work on developing your fast twitch muscle fibers. I am guessing that you are predisposed to have less of those than the average highflyer.

Re: 6'4 and cant dunk
A 36 inch vert at 5'9 should put you at 10 and a half feet. Could you jump off one leg or did you always gather before jumping?Acts 2:38. Let the truth be told.

Re: 6'4 and cant dunk
Did anybody else see that epic fail? Yep, that was mine. I'll claim it. For some reason, I thought 10 feet equaled 100 inches.
Aside from the mathematics part, can you jump off one foot or do you always gather with two. I tore my acl and lateral miniscus when I was 17 and can't get over the mental hump to try to jump off one leg anymore. I could always get more rise off two legs anyway.Acts 2:38. Let the truth be told.
