Re: I tried NBA 2k but I didn't like it

I've said this before, but the 'best' bits of LIVE 10 were without peer and still are...the plays, the pick and roll and the controls. Playing pick and roll with Nash and Amare on LIVE 10 was just about my most enjoyable NBA gaming moment.

The rest of the game though had way too many flaws.

2K11 has 90% of things covered...the depth is staggering. It's why most people are enjoying it.

The 'bumping' animations are a major negative / feeling that animations dominate, not you...but everything else is almost perfect.

I'm not a fan of the control/lack thereof I have with the players (or seemingly so), but I love everything else about it.

If its something you can "live with"...thats one thing....but its hard to grasp any logic about fundamentals being respected if you view that as acceptable.
I think the animations are weird looking, but they serve a purpose and make NBA Live 10 the most realistic online basketball game ever.

People have bypassed some of that by using crossovers and spin moves to get by the collision, but if you stay down and play position D, you will get the stop more often than not.

Imagine that, playing position D in a video game and getting results. Not getting warped out of the way. It might be an over powerful animation that sometimes sucks you into it... and maybe they could have made more of them fouls, but I really dig that part of the game.

It's so great to 'get under someone' who is trying to shoot and stop them without even jumping to block. And people get dunks in Live, but nobody is just rising up and dunking on people like they do in 2k.

Seriously, as for giving someone the tools to play defense, I appreciate what Live has given you. And it's not about the defense being overpowered because if you are smart you can score all day. You just can't run at the hoop and expect to score by pressing towards the basket and shoot. You have to have an angle or go around the person.

If you can't create your own jumper in Live 10, you won't be scoring much... and that's awesome, if you ask me.

Edit: Seriously, in a game with even the most skilled players of NBA Live... as long as the other team isn't getting a bunch of uncontested fast break layups, the shooting percentage will even be realistic.

If 2k11 animations look weird, then what's ur thoughts on live 10 animation, cause they look super weird, but I like both games, didn't like 2k11 at first, but after given it some time, I can't put it down, so I sold NBA live 10, and will be playing 2k11 for a while, hope EA can rebound and finally bring a great looking and playing game cause EA can't be beat in the area of control, but 2k11 is amazing and I think control is ok ( when not judging according to EA standards)

NBA 2K8 is when I stopped liking 2K basketball.

That was the year they added the iso motion controls and began making the game an animation-fest.

NBA 2K7 is still Visual Concepts' top NBA game.

College Hoops 2K8 remains the best basketball game to date.

Live 10 was a good re-do of a bad series, but it still had too many problems to work out. I have high hopes for Elite whenever it comes out.

As far as I know, Isomotion controls were actually added in 2K4. But it did become more like what we know it today in 2K6.

Anyway, I just got 2K8 a couple of days ago and it's such a great game for me. Love it!

I think the newer sports games are too deep and lost a lot of feel and fun factor. I prefer NBA jam to any of them because it is fun and there is strategy and skill involved too. The ultimate sports game is a fusion of sim and arcade. The best example is NFL 2k5. One you go for uber realism, i think the gameplay can suffer too much.

That's probably because of us. We, who keep posting and posting and posting about every little aspect of the game. And they listen, do they have a choice? They want to sell and we want to play. Maybe it's not us, it's this "new" media called internet. But we definitely use it.

You can blame the intenret for that, since before the internet, developers hardly listened to gamers (other than their own reasearch). It's just the nature of this business these days.

If you ask me, I'd get rid of the internet in one second and go back in time. But you can't really do that. And all this interaction between developers and consumers is just getting more and more intense. Think what it will be like 20 years from now...

Personally, I don't like NBA Jam and would get bored of it after 30 seconds. But I do understand what you are saying.

I like Madden Arcade better than Madden 11, Hitz 20-03 over NHL 11, and NBA Jam over NBA 2K11.

But I still like College Hoops 2K8 better than NBA JAM.

The reason isn't gameplay, but atmosphere and excitement.

I've yet to play a game that captures the atmosphere and excitement of its sport better than College Hoops 2K8.

A game can play well, but it can still be boring if it lacks atmosphere and excitement. Top Spin 3 and NBA 2K11 are great examples of that.

I really can't stand this game anymore. I think it's a piece of crap. I guess I have a different philosophy than the developers and the majority of the community when it comes to games and how they should be made.
