Re: I tried NBA 2k but I didn't like it

I played 2k11 around 20 games. It is becoming boring and disappointing already.

    1. Control is not good. They are sacrificing user control and responsiveness to save animations. And so many bumping phenom. It's boring. (In this issue I prefer 2k7 and 2k8.)

    2. Too many points in the paint. At first it looked solid but after I got used to the game, I started to have over 70 points in the paint each game at pro and allstar level. It's 2K bb game's perennial issue for me and it makes me disappointed this year again. (How many slider and roster sets should I try! And I found it in vain every year except Neon Roster in 09.) Whereas In Live 10 I seldom have over 70 points using default slider and roster set.

Yesterday I played Live 09 and Elite 11 demo again. It's hardly necessary to say, I found many good things in 09 as you know like signature shooting, post moves, intercepting pass, realistic dribble gesture and especially falling down back on the court drawing some offensive charging fouls in the paint a game which we never see in live 10.

Elite 11 Demo was fun and refreshing cause mainly no bumping, no button delay. But It's a pain watching horrible motions, lack of signature and dribble moves. However basically Hands on Control is fantastic and I think it will even better with some button mapping like passing and adding turbo button. I really hope EA deliver to us just a solid game in Elite 12.

The way i sees it this game is a metaphor for life, develop your skill create your own moments and take your game to the next level. the masses arent ready for total control they'd rather follow the script. Its really upsetting i really wish I could play the full version of this game, I guess everything happens for a reason. I hope they build off of this cuz I really enjoy the demo, the more I play. And the argument about the signiture shots is not valid because from playing the demo everyone that i played with seemed to have their signature shot. This was only a demo so it really cant be judged. And if I dont recognized your shot you are not tha important and I can wait for a patch or next year version to implement the signiture shot of say hmm sonny weems
Yeah elite controls were great, but it wasn't total control as they were stating, it was scripted in quite a few areas, and yes the controls were before there time, but everything else about NBA elite 11 was outdated, and outdated by years.... I guess it's a to each there own thing, but me for one would have never paid 60 dollars for the game, not even 20.... It was that bad from my prospective, it seemed like they created a new sport, ice-skate-ball! Just hope they come back stronger in 2012, cause for me, as of now in done with EA basketball games, can't even look at live 10, it's has great controls, but horrible scripted animations

It is because you're too integrated into the controls. Same reason why a lot of Madden players say NFL 2K5's controls are terrible. I grew up with NFL 2K5, and the controls are fine to me and when I go to play Madden they just do not feel right.

Same thing for Modern Warfare 2 and BlackOps. If you play MW2 for a long period of time and go to play BlackOps, it is so different. After playing about a week, now I am officially comfortable playing with BlackOps.

It is a different atmosphere, you need to get used to the game - you can't just pick up and play.

NBA 2K11 is my first basketball game since NBA ShootOut 98 on PS1. I did not know anything about the controls, but now that I do I think its a great game. And I play NBA Today mostly until the Association patch comes out. I am favoring BlackOps but once the patch comes out, Association time with my Nets!

I gaurantee after playing NBA 2K11 aslong as I have right now and I go pick up NBA Live 10 -- I will dislike it. I will download the demo and tell you my thoughts of the controls of Live 10 after playing NBA 2K11.

Totally agree, its almost frustrating going from a way you use to playing to trying to pick up a different scheme.

live 4real is spot on IMO

if the control was even 1% as good as any other aspect of the game it would be nba in your living room.....

but the momentum is bad and broken and the big wigs here who say basketball is about anticipation, following your man around a pick only to slide past him when he stops is not MOMENTUM.....

Elite got canceled because of the fanboys on this board and i honestly dont think it deserved to be canceled. One of the things that helped 2K to get to the level they are at is how they explain the technology and the gameplay they use. for example iso-motion aka animation wars pretty much has people brain washed right now. It looks great and 2K did an awsome job over the years of compiling a variety of great animations. but alas basketball isnt disney. If EA took the time to explain how total control worked in conjunction with the rtp and give them honest expectations of the technology this wouldnt have happened. Ive only played demos of both games and I enjoy Elite more, my only gripe is no turbo and it only bothers me in the post because im like how do I back this guy down? I do understand the logic in this because its kinda unrealistic to have a turbo button. turbo=arcade and im sure it would look crazy in conjunction with rtp. Long story short Elite is the most realistic basketball game right now hands down, bar none from a controls and gameplay in a virtual 3d space perspective. 2K is the most realistic representation of basketball gaming from a fan of the sport(or NBA cuz theres no FIBA) and presentation perspective and it has good ai and logic. borrowing from live took them to top but now its time for them to rebuild, the new live/elite game will own
I saw some positives in Elite demo, but no way in heck was that game ready to see the light of day at that point in time...No Way!!!Lack of turbo really hurt the game as well as it felt like the old saying of having a quick 1st step became extinct with the omission. Everyone kind of felt the same with no seperation. That's a big problem imo. It was the equivalent of a good idea that wasn't fully fleshed out.

You are right that 2k sometimes becomes a victim of it's own animations.
EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

FOR ME, nba 2k11 is the best NBA sim ever..... meaning that they capture all the little things that make NBA different then any other b-ball competition.

Every player on the game looks and acts like the real thing, and that is hard to accomplish knowing that every single player/team is unique...

And I say that NBA 2k11 is the best NBA sim, as apposed to the best basketball sim, simply because they lack 2 basic aspects about ANY sports game, CONTROLS and UNPREDICTABILITY

Let me explain, momentum makes almost every single action delayed, because let´s say a guy is running in one direction, he should not be able to jump in the opposite direction right away.... it makes sense, because physically sometimes its impossible to perform certain things, but if this momentum aspect is not perfect, it causes the game to be ether delayed or too fast (arcade)....

My point is that in a basketball game, body momentum is one of the most important things in any action during the game, that is why some guys can explode to the basket like it is nothing, change directions, collide mid-air like nothing hit them, or recuperate defense position after a help defense by changing directions very quickly, so if this aspect is not perfectly executed it feels horrible to play....

You saw, Elite 11 had 0 momentum, guys could jump, in 0,01s after you pressed the button, in nba 2k11, you press the button for your player to go after the cutting dribbler and your man takes 30s to start going after him....

UNPREDICTABILITY doesn´t need a lot of explaining, if you play the game for a while, you know that animations STILL have a huge impact on the success/failure you have on the game

You almost know when some animations are triggered that it will be good or bad before the sequence is finished.... it is not only about running a play, and explore the miss match, it is also about triggering certain animations that will increase the success probability......

I am not hating on the game, my point is that unfortunately, people like to overate games, simply because they manage to make Lebron play and look like lebron, and they totally forget about the lack of control you have over certain aspects of the game..... don´t get me wrong, 2k has done a huge job this year, this is not hating on them, this is an observation about how can people call this game the best ever, when it clearly is behind on CONTROLS and UNPREDICTABILITY (in my view), and the control aspect is the most important aspect of any sports game (for me)

But hey, knowing how 2k is well organized I would not be surprised if they only work on these 2 things in the next 2 or 3 games, I don´t know if the problem is the foundation, all I know, is that animations should have a bigger impact then the user input....

                    PeAcE
Spot on. The more I play 2K11, the more I appreciate it. But it's still lacking in those two areas. The momentum is over-exaggerated which causes unresponsiveness. The bumping is totally unrealistic in the way it forces the ball-handler into the animation where he struggles to regain his balance. Certain animations freeze user input. I regularly find myself entering a command multiple times before the game actually recognizes it. All these factors lead to the overall controls being sloppy. I scratch my head when I hear game sites calling this the best sports game of this generation when the controls are below average.

The unpredictability is also a big thing for me. As I stated before, the game is simply an animation match. If you play the game enough, you start to anticipate when certain animations trigger and react accordingly. In real basketball you don't think "If I get my man moving in this direction I know I can draw a charge". You would never think that way because you know something unpredictable can happen at any moment. The same situation in real life will always end differently to some degree or another. In 2K basketball you either get one animation or another, but it's easy to predict the animation you'll get and you already have a plan of action once you recognize which animation it is.

I like 2K11 also and find it their best effort yet. On rare occassions I feel 2K9 shining through but for the most part it's a solid effort. But like mentioned before it's so animation driven it's almost an RPG. And, to be honest that's pretty much how I've been approaching it and winning because of it. The one thing that they finally have a decent grasp on this year is running plays and player movement without the ball. To me Live 10 had a STRANGLEHOLD on it and that made it the best bball game ever for me. It was a beautiful thing to watch unfold. 2K still doesn't have the smoothness Live 10 had with plays but it's leaps and bounds better than past efforts.

2K also has the sick franchise which Live 10 was sorely lacking. EA dropped the ball on that one big time. If Live 10 had half the franchise 2K10 had, nevermind 2k11, I'd still be playing Live 10 today without a doubt. Also towards mid season I guess or earlier, the guys at EA lost their mind with the ratings and the game started to break online.

The first week I played 2k11, I also did not like the game at all, but there was a huge reason why. Let me also say I liked live better, but now I love them both.

The reason why I did not like 2k was simply because I tried to just pick it up and play. What a mistake, but something told me to go to the practice mode and learn the game. Find out why so many are raving about this game.

Well I went into practice mode , and learned the post game, and iso motion controls. Let me honestly say I'am so damn happy I did this. NBA2k11 is simply the best basketball game ever created.

I don't know if you really learned the game before making your decision, but if you did not. Trust me go to practice mode learn the game, then give it another go. It may change your mind.

Why the heck does he refuse to be in other NBA games???? He's not even in NBA Jams. ______him! Also, I need total control of my players
Man I felt like that when I first picked up 2k11, I said I was done playing that game and started playing live 10 again, but then realized that live to was like I said before, its years behind what I played in NBA 2k11, so I picked 2k11 back up and went to practice mode, learned the game and love it, live 10 has more control over dribbling but that's it, live 10 is too canned as well and bogus stuff happens in it. I actually went and sold every EA live game I had back because 2k11 is that good, Great! There is no other basketball gone out to even compare it with, I know that I will never sale this game, this game will be in my collection forever, it's going to be hard to beat or out do this game, even by 2k
