You know what I'd like the preveiws to tell us...

To me...there is one single factor that I've always looked for in basketball games.

I simply want a game that give you a decent, realistic challenge...with believable scores and stats every game. This is the one area where no game has succeeded so far.

To me, it's pointless how many dukes you have...how fluid the postgame is...how teams mimic real-life counterparts...if the end result of every game is completely unbelievable.

I'm sick of being able to score around 30 to 40 points a quarter, etc etc...and end up with 100+ every game. Worst of all...I hate having to intentionally slow my scoring down, becuase every game is just way to easy to rack it up.

I hope you guys understand when I'm getting at. 2K3 almost got it done last year...but the momentum and scoring runs felt a bit TOO forced...like VC was intentionally evening out stats.

I just want a game that, 90% of the time, ends up with realistic scores and stats, no matter how you try and push it.

    Hope this makes sense, lol.

2K almost did it but the game moved a lil slow and the same old fastbreak problem occured again. Is it that hard to ask for a realistic nba game...football gets it every year wit madden and 2k..and how come EA cant get live up their with madden

I completely agree with you, INNASKILLZ.

I want to pick up any of the 3 b-ball titles this year and go in on the highest skill level and get my a$$ handed to me. I want it to take me weeks of solid playing to be able to just COMPETE against the cpu, and when I can, the stats should be an accurate reflection of real b-ball.

IE. I should not be able to block until I learn proper timing/situations, and when I do I can eke out a realistic number, same for steals, interceptions, fouls, etc. I should also not be able to shoot a realistic percentage until I can find ways to occasionally get open looks/fastbreak dunks that can lift my % to a realistic level.

That doesn't mean missing wide open layups ala 2K3, or getting and making wide open layups ala LIVE.

So, when I first try the harder levels all my stats should be low relative to real life and all the CPU stats should be higher than reality. Then, as I play more and more and hone my skills, my stats begin to rise and the cpu's begin to fall until you end up around even, assuming you're playing with evenly matched teams. This could even fluctuate from game-to-game (as it does in reality) where some nights even the easy looks aren't falling and other nights I am making more than my fair share of tough shots. It would balance out over the course of a season.

I think that why this doesn't happen, though, is that too many 'casual' gamers will be so discouraged that they condemn the game as 'unplayable'. The reality is that they should play on easier skill levels until/if their skills are solid enough to try the hardest level, but I think pride gets in the way of that, and nobody (esp. long-time players) wants to start at the easier settings.

I have posted on this topic here a few times and have come to one conclusion. There are those here (and of course, we represent the hardcore fans) that are not patient enough to play through a full-sized game. I think the sports game companies see this and cater their AI to suit the fans that prefer the "quick realism" style. I'm not saying that I agree with this, just an observation.

This is fine as long as the CPU doesn't cheat! The CPU should be hard by playing good D (eg, making it hard for you to score, such as forcing you to take bad shots) and not by having superhuman offensive skills where they don't miss a single shot!
