I dont want to knock this game but I just wasnt as excited about last year's game as alot of others and I guess I am still a bit worried about this year's game as well.....But I wish I didnt have to worry about these things cause the game really could be great.

Im STILL a bit worried about Inside Drive this year...
I know it will most likely have the solid gameplay that it had from last year's version but I may be in the minority in saying this but I wasnt as blown away by ID last year in comparison to NBA 2K3. Sure it did do a few things better than 2K3 like differentiate between teams better and run their style of play...plus it also had a slightly better rebounding system but the lack of atmosphere was a huge impact on the overall immersion of the game. Also there was something about the animations last year that were very annoying and I STILL see them in Steve's ID 2004 movies posted. Its hard to describe but there seems a certain lack of flow to some of them like the back down and the directional movement of players. It seems very stiff and they sort of turn backwards like they are standing on sun dials rather than actually transistioning fluidly into different movements. Also last year when players would bump and grind into each other, there was no real fealing of contact , especially down low....it sort of felt like a simplified back down animation rather than fighting for position. Also the sensation of catching nothing but net wasnt very well implemented. Draining shots from the outside always resulted in the same net animation that looked more like an unstarched stiff shirt sleave rather than a tight net snapping piece of nylon. All these little things add up to really remove the player from getting completely absorbed in a mind blowing game of Xbox B-Ball.
I dont want to knock this game but I just wasnt as excited about last year's game as alot of others and I guess I am still a bit worried about this year's game as well.....But I wish I didnt have to worry about these things cause the game really could be great.Tags: None -

Valid complaints, I guess. And I share many of them to a certain extent. But compared to NBA 2k3, I found ID 2003 a million times better simply because it PLAYED a better game of basketball. NBA 2k3, while graphically superior, just didn't have the gameplay to back up its claim as a sim. Neither does ESPN NBA Basketball, IMHO.
I'm just all about the gameplay, and ID 2003 certainly gave me that. I expect nothing less out of ID 2004. -

Re: Im STILL a bit worried about Inside Drive this year...
Thanks for the feedback....Like i said before, a few of my issues are really hard for me to pinpoint with Inside Drive. The gameplay is just missing that certain something.....Intensity or something. Even tho it played perhaps a more representative game of the real NBA, I felt that 2K3 had more absorbing gameplay or intensity. It's hard to explain because I do agree that ID played a more realistic game but it also play a duller, less dynamic game as well in my opinion. I played a few games last night to try and get into the excitement and just felt the gameplay was a bit flat....realistic, but flat. It could definitely use a more robust NBA atmosphere, crowds, presentation, commentating, sneaker squeaks....grunts and chatter down low that sounds real.
I dunno....but I think you ca understand how I feel to a certain extent.Comment

I think that "that something" that you are missing is the atmosphere. Yes, the gameplay is wonderful, albeit the animations could use some updating. The gameplay is great though, but without the atmosphere, you still feel as if you are playing a game that features "99 Cavs vs. 02 Hawks" or something un-exciting like that.Twitter - WTF_OS

Re: Im STILL a bit worried about Inside Drive this year...
I updated the rosters for the Spurs and Nets, and I'm having a blast just pitting those two teams against each other. The defense is tough. The games are very competitive, especially when I put myself at a disadvantage (which translates to manually creating a tougher mode than All-star). I just lowered my 2-point slider by 2, 3-point slider by 1, and hookshots by 2. Other than that, everything was the same.Comment
