In nba basketball , any time a player is fouled in the act of shooting it is a shooting foul.
If the ball goes in the basket , it counts as a FG attempt and a FG made. Any other shooting foul does not count as a FG attempt. It doesn't matter if ball is shot in a beautiful arc and spins around the rim and off or if the ball flys two inches and the shooters hands go flailing in the air. Any shooting foul that does not go in the basket is not counted as a FG attempt.
Otherwise Shaq would not have a .580 FG% (he gets fouled around 3or4 times /game where the shot doesn't go in)(10.7 freethrow attempts per game)

How do you know this? I just wanna make sure. You know an NBA rules site where this is explained?
Cause when I counted FG attempts in real games and counted missed shooting fouls too the resulting FG attempts were close to the official ones. Had I not counted them there wouldv'e been a lot less attempts than what shows up in the official box scores.
I really want to know how this thing goes.
