If NBA Live gets good reviews would you get both 2k and Live?

That would be a no. Especially this year. I don't usually purchase two games from the same genre in the same year. 2K5 and Madden 2005 was an exception only because I was able to grab 2K for 20$. Otherwise, I would have missed out on that gem. Back to now...
I just couldn't justify getting Live even if the game was exceptional because of the lack of features. I'm a Franchise/Association type almost exclusively and 2K will win in that department hands down and there goes my incentive. I don't fool up with the MyCareer and Park stuff, but it provides a nice change of pace and adds value to the title. Most importantly, the on court gameplay is stellar in 2K. It has a few quirks (player speed, rebounding and passing) that irk me, but the overall gameplay is just buttery smooth to me. That kinda ends the debate in my mind. I will say though, that if Live's gameplay is improved significantly this year and they add more features next year, the title would be a LOT more appealing to me then.Comment

Maybe. But I don't recall any game breaking bugs last year. The VC ruined 2K14 for me. But it's not about sacrificing one for the other. The gameplay is the backbone of any game. If that sucks, then you can stick a fork in the rest. Besides, up to this point 2K has won in the gameplay department too AND they have more game modes to choose from. It's not even close, IMO.Comment

Re: If NBA Live gets good reviews would you get both 2k and Live?
I might buy a PS4 this year (we'll see). If I do, I'll probably give the Live 15 demo a try...if they leave it up there (is it usually still available after release?). But I will watch a TON of gameplay videos before I buy it, so these videos will be my review more than any official review, since I care more about how the game plays than about any modes.
Written reviews will be nice to read because they might cover areas I can't see in a gameplay videos, but videos will still be my #1 source of information in order to make a decision.
I'm not a person who plays Franchise mode to death (I don't care about managing a team in the next 20 years...I already have a job), so I'm more into a Season mode (just make minor decision regarding rosters, and mostly play the game to make the playoffs etc.). So to me, Association/MyGM/Franchise modes etc. don't mean much. Plus, I'm an offline gamer, so I play the game the old-school/simple way - play on the court and be the best team you can be. Which is why I'm probably exposed to only a small part of what these games have to offer. Maybe some day it'll change...
All of this applies to 2K as well, it doesn't really matter what game we're talking about. I might get both, but it depends on the money. If they're both good and I get a PS4, I'll probably buy the one I think is better, and then the other one after a price drop (/used).Last edited by youvalss; 09-07-2014, 10:06 PM.My Specs:

Re: If NBA Live gets good reviews would you get both 2k and Live?
Yes. I did last year. For one they are completely different games.
The second reason and main reason is the game modes. Sometimes I have more time and want to dive into Association mode, for these times there is no question 2k is my choice. But other times I want a quick game and this is when modes such as BIG moments on Live give me a quick fix.DSM Transfer.

No because of Live's lack of game modes.Comment

Getting 2k to play with friends. And live to play offline.
Live will probably be dead online and their servers weren't much better either. Games were always lagging. So offline only .
And The A.I in 2k plays cheesy and cheap IMO and it feels like I'm playing the same player/team over again. So I'm only playing with friends .#1 Laker fan

Re: If NBA Live gets good reviews would you get both 2k and Live?
I wanna get both if Live plays well, but I just dont think im gonna have the time to invest in 2 different basketball titles. I plan to spend the $5 for EA Access and check out the early Live trial. Its gonna have to wow me to get me to pull the trigger. I really wanna be forced to get both though. 2K is always a no brainer because despite its flaws I get an enjoyable experience every year. I stopped playing 2K14 in early August. 10 months with a sports title is pretty good. It’s easier to do the right thing, than to explain why you didn’t.Comment

Re: If NBA Live gets good reviews would you get both 2k and Live?
If Live were on PC I'd definitely pick it up. I really don't get why people think its "cool" to be so negative. I get if someone has a strict budget and can only go with one game, 2k has been a very solid game for a long time.
But in this hypothetical, money is no issue scenario, why would you not buy it and see what it does well and give feedback on what needs improvement.
We're seeing an awesome new direction from gaming developers, where fan feedback is a bigger and bigger aspect of the direction of the games we play. Why not be a part of that process, if you love basketball and gaming.Comment

People are not trying to be cool by being negative. People try to be cool by being a tough critic. As if they are hard to please. "If I'm pleased, then it must be good". Some feel it gives them more credibility.
Because some people don't have the time and patience to be, what they would consider, beta testers, focus group, or what have you. Some people, on principle, choose to not support what they would feel to be poor effort. Others just don't like the company. Just giving you list of reasons people have. Some reasonable, others not.
Totally agree!
Perspective is an interesting thing, in a sense as sports gamers, we're all beta testing for next years game each year. We can either be a part of the development process, in some small way or we can be a hindrance to it.
It all goes back to what I've heard developers say; by cluttering threads with "hate" or "poison" you are literally making the game worse by drowning out constructive feedback which can be used to make a game better.
That's the only thing I'd love for people to get. If something is broken or implemented poorly? Ok point it out in a descriptive way and if you're feeling ambitious, suggest a new direction. If not just stay away from the game and don't get in the way of people who do want to take the time to help developers make a better game.
I know I'm getting a bit off topic but wanted to respond to your comment. And I know you get what I'm saying so it's just a general thought.Comment
