That's the thing though, the shot stick as it's currently implemented is only precise in very certain situations, namely, baseline cameras. Sideline or broadcast views make the shot stick imprecise, as it takes time for your brain to process your position on the court relative to the basket or to the camera, and the absolute controls cause dissonance for the same reason.
With button presses, I can know that a certain combination of buttons will perform a certain move every time, regardless of my position on the screen. This is particularly the case with Live's hop-step and euro-step controls. I wouldn't mind a shot stick type of control scheme in live as an option, but they need to figure out how to make it more predictable, because outside of spin jumpers and some other moves in 2K, it doesn't feel comfortable.
