Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

I've been playing CH2k8 since release day, but I've had a Career Legacy going since 2010. I've played it off and on over the past few years, and this has remained my favorite game. Luckily, I've kept season recaps in threads in and around OS, and compiled this together, along with a synopsis of my current team.

    Texas State
2007-08: 17-13, lost in first round. Struggled through my season, but PG Brandon Rush carried us through the conference tournament before we got steamrolled by #1 seed and eventual NC Duke in the first round of the NCAA's.
2008-09: 26-5, lost in Sweet 16. Landed a 5* JUCO C in the off-season, 7'1 260 lb Tyler Cain. IIRC he averaged around 25 pts/12 rebs per game, and he carried us to the Sweet 16 where we got demolished by #1 seed Villanova by 40.

Mark Few took a job at Maryland which meant that the Gonzaga job came open, and they tabbed me for it.

    Gonzaga
2009-10: 32-3, Final Four. Had a stacked roster led by SF Austin Daye. We had a great season, and Daye carried us through the NCAA's. He averaged 28 points per game, including 32 of our 54 in our Final Four loss to 2x defending NC Duke.
2010-11: 32-1, Sweet 16. The most awesome yet disappointing season of my entire career. We were stacked, returning all 5 starters and adding in the nation's #1 PG with ridiculous quicks and handles. Went undefeated up until the NCAA's, where #4 seed Kansas downed us 82-77 behind superior 3 point shooting. The worst loss of my career by far. This was a NC caliber team.
2011-12: 25-9, First round. Had to completely rebuild, but I had the nation's #3 recruiting class coming in so things weren't too bad. With a lot of freshman came growing pains, but through sheer talent alone we won the conference regular season and tournament titles. Made it to the tourney as a #12 seed, and lost in the 1st round to #5 seed Miami by 10.

Jim Calhoun retired at this point, leaving the UCONN job vacant, and they chose me to take his place...

    Connecticut
2012-13: 23-10, lost in the second round. Had no backcourt whatsoever, so this was a tough season to grind out.
2013-14: 34-4, National Champions. Brought in 3 5* G's, all of which made major contributions right off the bat. Had a dominant frontcourt coming back and beat fellow Big East school Louisville in the NCAA title game.
2014-15: 33-5, Elite Eight. Had some remnants of the dominant front court left, and had a great season as my backcourt played outstanding.
2015-16: 38-2, National Champions. Just an overall dominant team. First one consisting of all my guys, and they were just unreal. Great backcourt, great frontcourt, on a whole 'nother level than most teams. Won the NC 108-66 over Washington State.
2016-17: 39-1, National Champions. Even better than last year's squad, and that's saying something. I'm pretty sure the lone game we lost was the only time we didn't win by double digits all year. This is the best team I've fielded to date in any basketball game.
2017-18: 26-9, Sweet 16. A rebuilding year for us with a couple of 4 year starters leaving the squad, but we still made a nice run in the NCAA's thanks to our dominating PF whose name escapes me.
2018-19: 29-8, Final Four. We had a SF named Connor (last name was something Jewish I think) who was just incredible. Won all of the major NPOTY honors and carried us to the Final Four on his back. We got beat by a better team in that game though, because we didn't have much offense outside of Connor.

At this point, Thad Matta finally got fired and I took over an Ohio State team coming off a 3-27 season and one that hadn't made the tourney in almost 8 years.

    Ohio State
2019-20: 17-14, missed NCAA's. With how poor of a roster I had, I was forced to lean on my lone good player, my C. Pretty sure he won conference POTY for his efforts.
2020-21: 25-11, second round. I pulled in a pretty decent recruiting class that made an immediate impact, taking this team back to the tourney for the first time in a decade.
2021-22: 29-8 Elite Eight. I landed a stud 5* SF and 5* SG who both came in and started immediately. They both made immediate impacts, and I had a great team, but unfortunately we got beat by Florida 68-62 in the elite Eight when we just couldn't keep up with them from behind the arc.
2022-23: 35-4, National Champions. Everything came together this year. With an entire lineup full of former 5*'s, we had a great year, capped off with a 20 point win in the national championship game.
    2023-24: 27-0, currently in progress.

    Coaching Career:
    Texas State: 43-18
    Gonzaga: 89-13
    Connecticut: 222-39
    Ohio State: 133-37
    Total: 487-107
    National Championships: 4 (2014, 2016, 2017, 2023)
    Regular Season Championships: 9
    Conference Tourney Championships: 10
    NCAA Tournaments: 15
    Sweet 16's: 11
    Final 4's: 6
    Pre-season #1: 1
    20-win seasons: 14
    Conference COY: 8
    National COY: 4
    All-Conference Players: 27
    All-American Players: 8
    National POY's: 2
    Pro Draftees: 20

My current squad is absolutely incredible. We're at 27-0 (15-0) thus far, and have somehow survived every game. We've had a few close calls as of late (most notably 59-57 against Michigan State), but they somehow always come through in the end to pull out a great win. For instance, after trailing 40-32 to kick off the 2nd half against #2 ranked Minnesota, we finished the game on a 49-20 run to win 81-60.

    2023-24 Ohio State Buckeyes: 27-0 (15-0)
    Starting 5:
PG Gerry Kent - 6'0 180lbs SR: A dead-eye shooter and a reliable point man. He's solid defensively. He's a four year starter and very good at finishing at the rim for his size.
SG Jared Palmer - 6'8 210lbs JR: An All-American. Averages 17 pts and 6 boards per game, and is the school's all-time leader in 3PT FG's made. Clutch.
SF Aly Norman - 6'7 243lbs SR: He doesn't do one thing outstandingly, but does a lot of things very well. Solid all-around player who will get the job done.
SF/PF J.B. Gordon - 6'9 228lbs Jr: All-American and NPOY candidate. Averages 22 pts per game and is the leader of this squad. Outstanding off the pick and roll and great at finishing in traffic. Deadly from 3PT range and clutch as ever. Dropped 50 points in the NCG last year. Very reminiscent of Kevin Durant.
C Brennan Brittian - 7'0 245lbs Jr: Struggles a bit with foul trouble and his offensive game could use some refinement, but he's an anchor in the middle as a defender.
    Bench:
PG Torin Hailey - 6'1 204lbs Jr: A big-time spark plug off the bench. Lockdown defender and reeks havoc when he is on the floor. Also prone to scoring outbursts at random. Will start at PG next year, most likely.
SG Ryan Dalghren - 6'4 215lbs Sr: Was in my first recruiting class, started as a freshman, and took a step back over the past several years. Kind of a 7th man role, but has always filled it well and is a dead-eye shooter off the bench.
PF Jitim Chalmers - 6'11 243lbs So: Interior presence off the bench. Does very well scoring in close, and his length makes him a constant shot-blocking presence.
C Evan Baker - 7'3 279lbs rFr: Sleeper recruit who paid off with incredible potential. Outstanding size and surprisingly nimble. Needs more skill refinement but his size allows him to haul in rebounds and block shots with surprising results.

Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

After two consecutive Sweet Sixteen appearances, and some stellar recruiting classes (had the #2 overall a couple seasons ago), I won back-to-back National Championships for the second time at Kansas. We were led by my two African guards (a Nigerian and a Cameroonian), and my 4* Center. We entered this season (2040, I think) outside the Top 25, based on who we lost (basically everyone from the past two seasons), and right now we're 10-3 with losses to Colorado State, Georgia State (Colonial champs three years running) and Oregon (undefeated at the time). We've run a 1-1-3/1-3-1 defensive set since I arrived in Lawrence, and it's been devastating.

Since I've started scouting freshman and sophomores, my recruiting classes have gotten better. I don't think Kansas will ever not be in the discussion for a championship, based on what I've been bringing in. I'm 25 wins away from 800, and I don't think I'll retire until I get the record.

I have yet to get a NPotY player, nor any consistent All-Americans. All-Conference is fine, but I want that AA. Is it the kind of offense you run, or is it just dumb luck?

Coaching in Long Island isn't that bad so far. We've only lost twice, I dont have a post player bigger than 6'7" but I'm making it work. So far we're 9-2, with all the talent in NY I thought I'd have a chance at some 3*s, but I thought wrong

          Couple questions fellas...

          1. Is it cheese to switch incoming players shot motion to one I'm comfortable with?
I mean most college coaches do try to correct shooting form...

          2. Does the AI scout my strategy?! My pick & roll/pop offense worked wonders earlier in the season. Now I have to be more creative with it (which I love!).

          3. When recruiting what catches your eye? Stats? Ratings? Interest? For me its size. I love have a big team. I want a PG 6'4"+, Wings 6'7"+, & big men 7'+.

1: I don't think so, but I try to keep the shooting motion unless it is something terribly egregious. This is especially the case for long release time fadaway shots (which get blocked far more often) and the many terrible free throw animations.

2: depending on the difficulty, the AI will adapt or preemptively try and disrupt your strategy (e.g. getting back on defense faster if you fast break a lot). I often see substantial switches at the half.

3: I start with interest in terms of recruiting. From there I look at specific skills and potential. Size is a good factor, but it is not the be-all-end-all. I love to have my pFs at least 6'9", but I landed one of the top recruits in the nation and he's only 6'7". He plays so much bigger though. However, at small schools grabbing a few 6'11"+ two star players can really change the fortunes of your team.

You guys seem to get through your legacies fairly quick. Do you guys sim or play games? Either way, you guys should post them in the basketball dynasties forum we need more CH activity there!!

In my legacy where I play every game I am still in my first year with Alabama State. I am 9-11 right now with 6 games left. Hoping to get a nice seed in the conference tourney.

I will have an update on my first sim legacy sometime soon.

Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

I've actually been fighting myself with getting a basically unplayable NCAA 10 for $35 (its on every one of my local GameStop's shelves, surprised so many have had to get it off eBay), but after giving CH one more chance, I actually had a lot of fun. Lost 77-87 Louisville @ Syracuse. SportsBuck's post made me want to try the game again even more. I'm will try an open legacy with a lesser team, as all the team choices in career legacy are just atrocious IMO (I know its supposed to be that way, but I'm just now trying to become a hardcore college hoops fan). Any suggestions for a team that is sort of middle of the pack? Not ranked, but with a good rutting class could be something.

Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

My 2nd year at George Washington went just as well as I thought it would. Everyone from last year's Sweet 16 team returned, so it was my team plus one year of experience. We ended up going 28-5 in the regular season, which is two losses more than the previous year, but I think we played much tougher competition. Twice we were in the top 10, but got bounced by Temple and St. Louis.

We won the conference tournament by beating a top 15 ranked Richmond Spiders team that gave us fits all year. We beat them two other times, but both times felt like fluke wins. Either way, the good record combined with the high RPI gave us a #2 seed in the tournament.

In the NCAA Tournament we breezed by Jacksonville in the first round. Round 2 saw some difficulty from SD State, but we pulled through. In the Sweet 16, once again we had trouble, but somehow squeaked out a win over Texas Tech. Oklahoma finally got us in the Elite Eight. They lost in the Final Four to eventual NC Duke. The Blue Devils have won two NC's in four seasons.

It was a great year for us, but we lost our star SF and our 7'1" C to graduation, but I think we adequately replaced them with three 4* guys through in-season recruiting. With four of five starters returning and a good recruiting class coming in, it looked like the future was bright for GW and myself.

                    Then it happened.

In the offseason, my alma mater, the Auburn Tigers, fired head coach Tony Barbee after back-to-back losing seasons. I don't know how they did two years ago exactly, but the previous year they went 8-25 with their wins coming from non-conference cupcake games and the occasional SEC win. They made the tournament my first season as an 8 seed, but since then the wins have come few and far between.

The Tigers, looking for another coach, sent an offer my way. Ever since I started doing career legacies, it's been my dream to coach at my alma mater, regardless of how crappy they were, just to get a chance to build them into a powerhouse team. Only once in a previous legacy did the Auburn job become available, and it was right after my first year at a new school, so I couldn't get it.

So needless to say, I took the job. If this were real life, I'd be considered crazy to take it because I had a great team coming back, and after two years, I was finally getting the team the way I wanted them to be. Well, I know I'll have more fun coaching Auburn than I would at GW, simply because I've never seen Auburn play in the NCAA tournament so it's a personal goal.

However, this is going to be a rough transition. Auburn has some big holes. The starting five can hang with some good teams I believe, but their bench is weak, and Alabama is a tough state to recruit in. I'm having to battle UF, FSU and Miami for recruits in Florida. Tough to get a 4-star guy interested when you go 8-25 the previous year.

When I took over recruiting, I was able to grab one guy with the last scholarship I had. He was a 4-star PG that other teams passed over. He's a tremendous gunner and doesn't ever seem to miss.

I've played two games so far and am having a blast playing as my alma mater. I hope I can keep from getting fired in 2 years, but if I do, it's at least worth it to coach the team I love the most.

Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

Started one with my created UNC Pembroke squad (rated 69 overall) playing in the Big South Conference. I changed all the non-conference games to small local NC and SC schools to stay local since I'm a young program. In our Moonlight Madness game neither side could buy a basket...my side won by a wopping 26-13 (8 minute halves). I'm 9-6 after non-conference play, with my best win coming at Wake Forest (who is 8-4), my worst losses are Central Arkansas (4-5) and Tulane (6-7) where I lost by 20 and 17, respectively. We pretty much live and die by my Center, George Blakeney, who is leading the nation in points and rebounds per game. He is only 6'9" (tallest on the team) so in games with bigger opposing centers he tends to struggle, which in turn - we struggle as a team. The team is fairly young, Blakeney and two other starters are seniors but the rest of the team are sophomores and freshmen...however, none of them are all that good. If I don't pull in a big man in recruiting, my starting center next year could possibly be 6'7", this whole team is undersized.

I'm having a ton of fun (even in the losses), with conference play here I hope we can keep Blakeney rolling and snag a seed in the big dance.

I used to sim some of my games, especially if I wanted to get through a stretch of the season. Then I started simming to finish if one team or the other was up by 15 with 10 minutes to go in the 2nd half. I eventually switched to fully playing games unless something comes up midway through that forces me to sim to the end (really lament not having a mid-game save like the NBA series).

It's easier to play every game now that I'm in a power conference. Early on it was a little boring/redundant to have half of my schedule be a foregone conclusion because my team was superior to everyone else in the conference.

Crazy thing just happened. In my Southern Utah legacy, my leading scorer is named Jackson Stevenett. I use raidersfan's roster so the people are real. I ended up finding Stevenett on twitter, hit him up about my accomplishments with him in the game and he responded. I persuaded a player who I used in a video game to then buy that video game.

Started out at Texas State and 12 years later Im still here.I thought this would be a quick startup job then i would move up to a Mid Major, but 12 years later and countless mid major and power conference offers, i havent felt the need to leave yet.I almost jumped to Cal last year and Wisconsin also the year before but just couldnt do it.

The first three years i had a record of 28-62 and was waiting to be fired then I finally pulled in some local and pipeline talent and started to finally build my team to be atleast competing for Southland titles. My 7th year i finally made the tournament as a 12th seed only to get blasted by Maryland. The positive though i returned all my starters and they where all fresh and sophs except my PF who was a Senior.

The following year was my best year up to that point.I finished the season at 23-6(14-2) and made the tourney as a 8th seed. But lost in the second round to 1 seeded Georgetown.Again i returned 4 of my starters and had a freshman PF (my first 4 star) who was better then my Senior the year before. The next year i went 26-4(16-0) beating our in state big brother #8 Texas for by far my best win yet.We we're projected as a 7th seed but wound up getting a 8th seed yet again. We pulled an upset in the second round by beating 1 seeded Kansas then faced 4th seed Arizona in the Sweet Sixteen. They killed us.

The following two years had similiar results.I had a dissapointing year getting knocked out in the second round then lost the followin year in the sweet sixteen. Now im in year 12 With my best team yet (88 overall). This could be my year.I've scheduled a brutual no conf schedule so ill know how good this team really is.Im hopen to sneak into the Elite 8.Gonna be tough but i really like this team.

Despite loosing my starting PG to a broken toe for 34 days we were doing pretty well. Then my back up SG went down with a pulled hamstring and nowehe's hurt. My offensive rhythm is so off its not funny. Injuries are killing us. If one more person goes down its a wrap for our season.

Well after three more seasons and another heartbreaking defeat in the Sweet Sixteen i decided it was time to move on.I lost in the Sweet Sixteen the year i was hoping for an Elite 8 run and after that i decided it was time for a change.I had been fighting for low end four star talent and killing the Southland with that talent but its not enough for the big dance.I need a Power Job.

I decided to stay another year or so just to see how the upcoming talent would be, and didnt wanna leave the cupboard bare, so i recruited enough 3 star talent for the school and next coach to have success in the Southland.Atleast for a few years.I'm glad i did because the job offers those two years wasnt what i was looking for.But the followin year was a really good year with really good Power and Mid Major Jobs open.

It took me like 30 minutes and i had it down to three schools:Georgia Tech,Illinois and Arkansas.Texas was the best job available at the time with plenty of talent still after Rick Barnes retired but i couldnt do it.So i decided to get out of the South all together and head to Illinois.Glad i did.

The talent level was awful when i got there. The best player was a PF 77 overall and a senior.I had 6 schollerships to give out and by the early signing period I signed three 5 star MD AA after not signing a single 5 star my entire career.Wrapped the rest with three 4 star recruits and top 50 at that.

It might be a few years but if i can keep my job battlin through the tough Big Ten I might be able to put together a championship squad.
