Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

Finally took a second job after starting a closed Legacy with Texas State.

    Texas State Season Breakdown:

    Spoiler

Overall record at Texas State was 330-113 with four tourney wins.

Basically my coaching philosophy is heavy defensive pressure with a full court press all game. We run every chance we can, but when the break isn't there we run a methodical flex offense.

Given that there's no college basketball dynasties actively running on the dynasty forum, I decided to be the one to start one. I'm looking for advice for what team to start with though... Here's the options.

UCLA: Tons of history, haven't made a Final Four since 2008. The goal would be to restore them to former glory.
Texas A&M: Trying to make Aggie basketball as good as the football team would probably draw tons of viewers.
San Diego State: Great atmosphere there, using them would make home games a lot more fun.
Utah State: Legendary fans but no titles or Final Fours. Giving the Utah State fans something to cheer for would make a awesome storyline.

Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

I've jumped back into playing this.

I started up a legacy with either Texas State or Texas Southern lol. I think a lot about strategy... A LOT! I like the idea of going straight m2m, but...here's what I want.

On offense I have the tempo and fast break slider set at 20. I have defensive pressure at 100, crash the boards/transition defense at 50. I want to create a see-saw effect. I want to mess with my opponent's heart rate so to speak (like in real life, I would never push players to the point of them collapsing, heart beating to fast, etc). I want to put a lot of pressure on my opponent while also forcing them to waste time getting over the half court line (and maybe having to force a long pass). I'm hoping to either force them to do something they didn't want to do, or that by the time they get over half court they're left with an nba shot clock (24 or 25 seconds I guess).

I was experimenting with the Indiana Hoosiers and all the traps and such. I usually like a straight full court m2m press....but I wanted to explore. Full court trap is kind of cool...3/4 trap wasn't really trapping at all but still interesting.....and half court trap...may have been my favorite? I'll break down what I liked about all three.

Full court trap, too easily broken by opponent, though you can sometimes tip the opening pass or they sometimes throw a wild pass out of bounds.

3/4 trap, I never saw anyone actually trap. Allows the inbound pass, and immediately looks like a 3/4 press. Still effective in taking time off shot clock.

Half court trap, perhaps my favorite? I like the pressure applied just before halfcourt, and someone usually (not always) comes to trap after ball handler steps over the line. I've actually seen this result in some double teaming of other players that I don't usually see otherwise in CPU vs. CPU (actually saw a double team lead to a jump ball).

So I'm not sure what to do. I've gone from being unsure of what to do...right back to being unsure of what to do lol. Anyone have advice?

Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

Alrighty... Well I restarted my legacy because I was just too irritated at muself switching up defenses, lack of understanding what I wanted to do. I began anew with NC A&T.

After reading up on the history of Pete Carril and company (and watching some videos), I decided to go back to it (normally used it for a Paul Westhead type offense). My mindset is slow-pace offense, fast-pace defense. Originally I thought I'd stick with the halfcourt trap, but I've rediscovered the joy in old habits. In my first three games, I forced 7 turnovers in a win over Saint Louis, 3 in a loss to Pittsburgh, and 2 in a win at DePaul. This was all under the half court trap (running m2m primary and 1-3-1 matchup zone in the other two).

Then I decided to switch things up. If my team is going to mainly run down the shot clock, why shouldn't I force the other team to worry about the shot clock too? I switched to the fullcourt press I was used to seeing my teams run with. The goal in mind was to force my opponent to an NBA shot clock (24 seconds left by the time they cross, unless they break before that lol) and to make them uncomfortable and force up bad shots.

The first game was @ #8 Tennessee. First half went good, but the second half went better! Tennessee had 16 points in the first half and 14 in the second. Their star guard went 3-7 from the three-point line. We forced tennessee into 7 turnovers. Final score 53-30 (with 10 minute halves). Next game was closer at Norfolk State. We forced 5 turnovers and won 47-40. Next game at Missouri we forced 5 turnovers but collapsed in the second half losing 47-32.

Next game is against 8-0 #10 Akron...

Anyone still play this? Thinking of starting up a new game with some Directional State school but making my coach a super recruiter and seeing how far I can go.

Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

After a few months of not playing 2k8, I'm back at it. I'm nearing the end of the first year of my career legacy, which I started at Florida A&M.

My team is currently 10-15, 8-7 in conference play with 3 games remaining and those games are against the bottom 3 teams of the conference. I should be able to get a decent seeding in the conference tournament if I get these wins to close out the season.

The MEAC is obviously small, so the conference champ gets the only bid. My only hope of making it to the Big Dance is having a good run to win the conference tourney and that is not likely, my team is pretty terrible. Most of my wins have come by 1-3 points. I've had to really grind out some wins and get a bit of luck.

Recruiting is going horribly, as expected. I'm sticking to local recruits mostly, but competition for recruits in Florida is fierce with all these other schools that are much better than FAMU. I love the challenge, though. Hopefully in a few seasons I'll put together a solid, winning team and build my coaching resume to move up to bigger and better things. We shall see.

I'm rolling with FAMU as well. 16-5 so far and have 2 top 500 recruits all but locked up. My only conference losses were blowouts at the hands of Bethune-Cookman and Hampton. Hampton is ridiculous. Undefeated in conference, 18-4 with a top 25 RPI. My RPI is top 60 cause I had a big non-con win @ A&M.

I'm in the press box at a UNT football game and all I wish I could do is play some Hoops 2k8 right now.

Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

Just had one for the ages in my Florida A&M legacy:

Final regular season game of year one and I carry a 19-8 record to face Bethune-Cookman on my home floor. They beat me by 22 in our first meeting. At one point in the first half I trail by 20. I open the second half down 8, Bethune-Cookman stretches it to 15. My freshman 6th man PG goes OFF, raining in three after three. I've never had a game like I had with him. He finished regulation with 53 on 15-21 from deep. His 3PT shooting rating is only a 73. I'm fouling to get back in the game in the final two minutes and manage to tie on huge threes from this PG. We go to OT and he never scores again (0-4 in OT), but my senior SF is carrying me. Bethune-Cookman hits a huge 3 to make it 98-95 with less than 20 seconds remaining. I miss another three, and foul their leading scorer. He misses BOTH. I get a great look from three and it rattles out at the buzzer.

Heartbreak in Tallahassee. 98-95 Final and I enter the conference tournament with a 19-9 record.

I've had a hoopcast sim legacy going for a couple years. Loaded it up today and it's cool seeing all the names of the players I've been using over the years. According to the last save I haven't played since April lol. Looking at my coach's stats, through 15 seasons I've gone 373-128 with 2 championships, both with Saint Louis. 5 elite 8s, 4 final 4s, 3 championship appearances, and it just occurred to me I've done the hoopcast sim over 500 times

First 6 seasons were with Texas Southern, after that it's been all Billikens.

I'm tempted to actually play a game just for the hilarity after years of NBA2k, but I don't want to ruin the integrity of hoopcasting every single game this legacy, so I might either start a brand new legacy or just do an exhibition.

just had a game to remember in my North Florida Legacy.

Me vs Lipscomb in the conference tournament final . at the end of the first half I'm down 45-40. To start off the second half I go on a 15-3 run to go up 55-48 then we trade 3 pointers until the score is 70-66 with 2:38 left in the 2nd half I make a 3 point shot while drawing the foul with 1:45 left in the 2nd to make the score 74-66 they then go on to score 6 to put it within 2 with 25 secs left so like normal they start fouling me and I go to the charity strike and make 2-2 to put me up by 4 and they score a quick deuce but it didnt matter because there was only 2.7 seconds left and I ran out those remaining 2.7 seconds to win the game 76-74. That game secured me a spot in the NCAA tournament as a 13 seed against Maryland (who I lost to earlier in the season by a buzzer beater) and I also hit #25 in the top 25 with that win so yippie

Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

Started a new Closed Legacy as the head coach of North Carolina A&T. Decided to go a different route than what I usually do and make this coach great at evaluating/developing talent and leaving the charisma and recruiting to the assistants. Normally I make my HC have high charisma first, but I wanted to freshen things up.

I also cut 3 or 4 freshmen off of the team when joining. I already have 7 scholarships for year 1. That number will be close to the same next year as well. I am going to try and run a 2-3 match-up zone more often than not and a lot of motion offense.

Right now my schedule looks like I'll be going 1-9 in my first 10 games if I can get that first victory. Against St Louis I held it close at 22-26 in the 1st quarter before they finally took control and beat me 89-61. It was about what I expected. My team is just not skilled. They can shoot and score with a few players, but lack everywhere else. I did have my SG Middleton score 33 and was the only reason my team could do anything.

Pretty much every play right now has him getting the ball and able to either take a shot, drive, or also have an option to pass it out. My offense will be running through him all year. Thankfully he is one of the few JRs on the team and he will be able to carry me next year as well.

I'm excited to get back into this game. It never gets old.

                            1st round game against Maryland-

Game was a classic battle of Good Offense(me) vs Good Defense(Maryland)

Game started just like the first matchup me leading 43-35 at the half. Then I went on a 12-0 run to put me up 55-35 with 8:45 left in the second half. You'd think that Maryland would be done for but just like I did the first meeting they go on 15-4 run to put the game into single digits with 5:00 left in the 2nd half. This is when it starts getting insane. Their Starting Center gets fouled out with 3:50 left in the game and this is where I started feeding my big man and made the game interesting. They Pull the game to a 79-77 deficet with 40 seconds left in the game I have the ball and my SR SG (who had a Double-Double by this point) drained a clutch 3 pt shot with 25 seconds left to put us up 82-77 They answer back with their own three pointer but there was only 10 seconds left which I ran out to give us the win 82-80

Next game is a battle of the little guys. seed #10North Florida vs seed #13 Southern Illinois (who pulled off an upset of a lifetime beating Kansas 99-96)
