Re: This game owns my soul.

In my WKU legacy I just had one of the best games I've ever played from a tactical standpoint. I was on the road in North Texas. My WKU is a 81 overall and North Texas is a 79. On a sidenote, their floor/arena is beautiful. If you've never played their go check it out!

My team is comprised of mostly Juniors and Freshmen (my starting 5 consists of 3 Jr's, 1 Soph, and 1 freshman), but my depth is solid...for a mid-major. I have 8 players rated 70 or higher and none of them are above 79. The 79 is a freshman who I just nabbed. He was a HS AA and the Mr. BB for So. Carolina.

    North Texas has 2 monsters: a 7-foot Center @ 84 and a 6-foot-8 SF@ 87. The rest of their rotation was a PF who was a low/mid 70 and a bunch of high 60's and even some 50's.

From the jump their center was killing me. He was grabbing every offensive rebound and when I doubled him they'd find the SF and he'd just rip me up with dribble drive and jumpers from all over. I had to go to a 2-3 zone and their SF still killed me, but now exclusively with 3's. Also my team couldn't rebound defensivley so the 2-3 zone wasn't helping that at all. I was down by as much as 14 in the first half, but luckily their bench is awful and I was able to close the gap. I cut the lead down and ended up being down by 8 at the half after a few 3's in the last minute.

Second half I decided to pressure-up on their SF, play man to man and always guard him myself as much as possible. Whenever they got the ball inside to their center I quickly switched to who was guarding him and then called for a double team then immediately switched back to their SF so he wouldn't get left open, basically making their scrub supporting cast beat me. Whenever their SF came out of the game for a rest I moved to a 2-3 zone and that shut down their center for the most part. But still, they were getting second chance points because my starting front court couldn't rebound.

When I was making my mid-half subs at around the 12 min mark I decided to let my starting PF run until his wheels fell off. He's only a 79 Def Reb rating (overall he's a 73), and his back up, a JuCo recruit I brought in to be a career reserve, has a surprising 87 Def Reb rating but he's only a 70 overall. This moved paid of big time!! because my starter was able to score on the NT second unit, and the reserve gave me a huge lift down the stretch.

During the last 5 min, I had my 4 starters and my reserve who rebounds like Ben Wallace in his prime. The computer went cold with my defensive strategy, and my reserve PF was grabbing everything in sight. I ended up taking a 3-point lead in the last 2 min on a put-back, and-1. Next trip down N. Texas' crappy PG tries to force a in-traffic pass to their star SF. the same guy I've been guarding all second half. My High School All American SF deflects the pass to my PG and the race is on ....on the 2-on-1 my PG throws a super high lob to my 6-foot-6 freshman SF (86 dunk rating)...he catches and crushes on the same PG who turned the ball over. Whistle blows, free-throw made. 3-Point Play (second and-1 in as many trips). Up 6 with about 1:20 to play the computer became undone. Bad shots, bad passing, dropped defensive assignments. Even the crowd after that alley-opp went dead.

This was one of the most satisfying wins I've ever played. Winning on the road in a packed gym playing for the top spot in the conference is one thing. But making tactical changes to shut down a great 1-2 duo with a young team with not much team unity awas so gratifying. I checked some of my stats at the end of the game.

    - My bench scored 23 points total
    - My reserve PF ended up with 9 rebounds
    - I had 4 players in double figures
    - Their two stars C=21p-11r, SF=17p w/ 4 3's

I love how in this game the better "team" can overcome a couple of stars, but it doesn't come easy. If I wasn't into this particular game v. NT and not made changes to solidify my rebounding/defensive struggles I probably lose by at least 12. A part of me is dreading a probable re-match in the Conf. tourney, but then again... It would be fun to see how it'd turn out next time around

Glad you enjoyed it. I wanted to keep the post shorter, but I had to get all the details in.

I'm in my Conf tourney now and I'm the 1 seed and North Texas is the 4th seed. Looks like a re-match is brewing

Re: This game owns my soul.

So I picked up NCAA Basketball 10 a few weeks ago and I have to admit I actually enjoy that game, but it just doesn't do it for me like CH2k8. I don't understand it, especially with all of the features that NCAA 10 has. I really want to get into that game like I had with the 2k series over the years, but I just can't. As much as I love having updated rosters (well, half-assed updated EA rosters) I just can't bring myself to not revert back to CH2k8. Yes, there are roster updates that the wonderful OS community puts out there for us to download, unfortunately I have never been able to connect to the PSN to download them. Yet with the new motion offense and ESPN/CBS visuals and VERY much improved gameplay from last year when EA attempted to create a sad excuse for a college basketball game, my heart is still with CH2k8.

Congratulations 2k8, you own my soul! I blame it on Legacy Mode, something EA will never be able to match.

Just played my Sun Belt re-match. It was an ugly slaughter. 3's all over the place, turnovers turned into fast break points and no matter what defensive look was thrown out there the ball always seemed to go in the hoop.

I just got smacked down in my conference semi-finals 65-51. Their center was unstopable from the free throw line and he was on a crazy quick release tip. It was just catch and shoot. Thank god he's a senior and I don't have to deal with him next year. Ah well off to the NCAAs as a 7th seed.

NOTE: sorry for a post that seemed more for the "How's your Legacy going" but it was kind of related to one of my other previous posts.

Re: This game owns my soul.

OK. I just had one of the most thrilling games, maybe I've had in a long time, in any sports video game. I may ramble, if so I'm sorry. Here goes.

4th season of my Legacy. 1st season at North Texas. We've managed to go 30-2, win reg season and conf tourney, only 2 losses were both to Western Kentucky. (Hopefully that gives you solice aa2ba lol. BTW, WKU just knocked off UNC to get to the Sweet 16 in my tourney. But anyways...)

So into the NCAAs we go as a 3 seed. First game was a blowout vs Northern Arizona. Probably the best game all season. So now we face # 6 seed Iowa State.

They jump out on me early. 10-0 before I can even score. They maintained their lead all throughout. My starting PG was hurt, which didn't help matters as I couldn't get into my fast-pace O-fense w/ my PG injured.

Late into the 2nd half, and ISU still maintains their lead. Everytime we tried to make a run to cut into the lead, they'd hit a shot or get an Offensive board and putback. They killed us on the glass.

But yeah, under 3 minutes left and the score stands at 69-61. I'm thinking that hopes are dim. But some great defensive pressure in the full court press and we force some stops. I hit some key 3s, and all of a sudden I'm back within 2, 77-75. We force another defensive stop, I come down, run a simple Pick and Roll and get the jam to tie it up. But then, they come down, drain a 3 to go back up. Without hesitation, I bring my O back up the court, get it to my shooter Chan, and he nails a clutch 3 to tie it up 80-80 with about 40 seconds left.

They get the ball, try to get it inside, but my big men step up and pressure the shot to force the miss. We have the ball with under 30 sec left. The game's in our hands. So I get it to my go to big man on the P&R, and he throws it down w/ 5 sec left. My defense is still in full court press mode, so when they inbound it, they are able to find a guard WIDE OPEN behind the defense. At first I thought he would pull up for 3, but he drives in closer for a wide open 2 at the free throw line....NO GOOD! And North Texas advances to the Sweet 16. I'm running around celebrating like a madman, my roomates are looking at me like I'm crazy...but I couldn't care, because my team is still alive in the big dance.

That's what it's all about. And that is why this game is so great. Probably the most animated I've been during a game without throwing something lol. My heart was into this one, as silly as it sounds. I'm shouting at the TV "REBOUND, REBOUND!" all throughout. That emotion. That feeling...it's what makes this game so great.

I got a 10 dollar gift card for gamestop as a present from a friend for christmas. Yea i thought what could you really get thats any good for 10 dollars. So i went in a couple days after christmas and saw CH2K8. I loved it when i had it before on the ps2. So i decided to get it cuz it was like 8 bucks. Biggest steal ever for that price. It has hardly ever left my ps3. I got this years rosters and love playing this game. I can already say that i am already addicted to this game and CH2K8has my soul.

Great story man. I hear you about your roommates. I get totally geeked when it comes to this game.

Hopefully you can keep it going for the Sun Belt!

Actually it's funny that you mentioned WKU getting into the sweet 16. In my WKU legacy 3 teams got into the dance. North Texas as the Sun Belt Champs. And the NCAAs gave WKU and ULL at large bids.

After taking that bitter defeat in the SB conf-semi I took a break and realized that:

                  a) My team has no seniors so there really is a next year
                  b) I'm still a 7 seed in the NCAAs
                  c) I have a pretty easy 1st round match-up.

So I decided to fire up the PS3 and beat up on poor Western Carolina (at a 79 rating how they got a 10 seed is beyond me?). I was up by 22 at half time and 5 min in their star player picked up his 3rd foul and I pushed it to 25 with 11 min to go. I figured there is no way I'm losing this game since I will be playing "everyone touches the ball Offense" the rest of the way so I didn't bother wasting my time. I simmed the rest of the game.

Second round....here's where I'm suppose to get served to 2-seed Arizona State. But they got upset by Colgate!? 15th seed Colgate. 72 rating Colgate?!?. I gave their roster a quick scan...No major 3-point threats, no player over 6-9...no problem! Except my team really didn't play well. My shots weren't going down and I neglected my post players. I still squeaked past them because they were equally as bad, but it was tougher than I thought.

So I weasel my way into the sweet 16 (first time in my coaches career). Where # 3 seed Michigan (93 rated) is waiting for me. I played Michigan in a preseason tourney back in November and lost to them by 15. Worst yet the Regional site is Ford Field - Detroit Michigan. I figure my season is over, but it's admirable that I made it to the sweet 16. Good season had and next year should be even better!

So just as I decide to walk into my beating my girl calls me up and starts talking about her day and stuff. I decided I'll just continue to play and take the beating while she's on the phone. So I start the game and I'm taking BS 3's off jab steps, doing and-1 ISOmotion dribble combos, playing reckless-aggressive defense. All things I would do in moderation if I was focused. For some reason I was winning. My crazy shots were falling, my dribble drive was getting me to the rack untouched, and my reckless D wasn't turning into fouls it was turning into fast breaks. Also Michigan shot awful! I was up 18 before I knew it. I even pulled off a sick no look alley-oop off a steal that I had to save.

In real life CSI came on so my girl stopped talking about her day and I could focus in a bit on the task at hand since I was spotted 18 points

So second half comes up and I know what's going to happen. The computer is going to go on a run and cut it to 10, the tempo will slow and a real game will break out. I've been on the road to blow-out upset city before and I know it never turns out that way.... Well, it just kept getting worse for MU. My starting Center picked up 3 fouls in a minute and all of a sudden my bench PF stepped in and was playing gonzo again! With about 7 min to go up 15, I start using 30 second per possession. and by the time we get to the 5 min mark I'm up by 12. MU calls a time out and I put in my fresh starters and go into my Full Court Trap set to Always to start the last 5 min. MU get's trapped in the back court throws a picked off pass and I get a lay up. Up 14. Next in bounds, ball is thrown into my PF guarding the inbound pass. He picks it up and puts in another lay-up. Up 16. Then their in bounder goes for a home run pass and it goes over everyone and out of bounds before the camera can fully adjust. No with about 4:20 left I'm up 16 with possession. I work out of the Box offense and called for the Minutemen play. I ended up getting a 3 in the corner of their 2-3 zone and now I'm up 19 with 4 min to go. I clear my bench first chance I get and let the clock wind down.

Off to the elite 8 and I watch my players celebrate. Guys are High 5'n. One of my guys shakes hands with MU's PG, and one of my walk-on bench players has fully broken into the lamest dance (I believe it's call The Monkey). So they cut away to Greg Gumble to announce the player of the game and of course it's my Freshman Small Forward O.J. Roy and they showed a few clips featuring his no-look alley oop. So they cut back to the game and my walk-on is still dancing. I take a closer look, and he's dancing for the camera man that is on the baseline under our basket!?! I started laughing so hard when I saw what he was doing. I mean we always see some over-excited player acting a fool after a big upset like this, but to see it in a video game from that perspective is truly awesome. I mean they could have had a cut-scene showing the player dancing, but to have it happen from a third person perspective in real time blows me away.

This game still continues to amaze me!

I bought this today, I am getting into college basketball a lot lately but I didn't want to shell out $60 for NCAA 10.

It was only $7.99 at Gamestop so I plan on downloading the new rosters and playing some before the Mizz @ TTU game.

                    Can you still play online?

This game still continues to amaze me!
                      lol, good story man.

BTW, WKU got knocked off by Wisconsin in my Sweet 16. But thankfully, I have advanced to the Elite 8 with a blowout win over Pitt. I even upped it to MOP due to it being the Sweet 16, and still was able to pull away from Pitt. So now it's UNT vs #5 Clemson, who just upset #1 Georgetown, with a trip to the Final Four on the line.

It's funny I always seem to find the Hoyas are a upset candidate. Your No. Texas team must be a real juggernaut! Good luck against Clemson.

How is this game on the PS2? I've been thinking of picking up a copy since it's cheap and the fact that I've been playing my PS2 a lot recently.

I hear not as good/deep as the ps3/360 versions. Trust, it's worth the extra $5 or so if you can get the 360 or ps3 version.

I already own the 360 version. Just was curious if it was worth picking up for the PS2 on the weeks where I'm using the PS2 over the 360.

Been back playing this over the last week or so. Man, I never really got into Legacy mode that much, but the recruiting is insane. One thing I like is how when you sim your players kinda lean on a one guy if you have a young team. I'm in year 5 with Virginia Tech I believe, so I just lost the 2007 class which had about 7 players total and accounts for about 4 starters and 2 key guys off the bench. I have a really young team, all frosh minus my Jr. SG and Sr. C. My Jr. SG Dramane Sidney carries the team in the sims while the freshmen play somewhat inconsistently.

After a sweet 16 appearance, we're just .500 this year so far, but next year should be great. I recruited the number 2 Center in the nation, plus my team will be one more year experienced and improved and I'll return everyone minus my Center.
