Anyone have any CPU vs CPU or coach slider sets?

    Looking for a CPU vs CPU or coach slider set that would be good to use in College Hoops 2k8? If you have a good set please post the set here.
    Thanks,

    Re: Anyone have any CPU vs CPU or coach slider sets?

    I have been planning to post my set for a while. I used to use a set that I created and revised based on jukeman's ideas. Then, I saw some interesting thoughts from the 2K NBA forum which opened the game up and now have a nearly final slider set with several seasons of gameplay with different roster strengths.

    My present issue is opening up PF scoring. Gs and SFs can tear it up with my sliders, but it is tough to get a dominant PF to play as a dominant PF. (A strong offensive C will still take you to the Final Four with my sliders.)

    So, for this last reason, I have not posted my sliders because I know I am still trying to determine whether I can actually empower those PFs. With that caveat, I am happy to post my set for you to try it out. It will probably be later tonight before I can do that, though. (Sorry for the tease.)

      I've been using these for years: http://www.operationsports.com/forum...s-jukeman.html

      Also to the above, how are the 3pt tendencies for the players on the teams you're testing with. I read awhile back that if players 3pt rating were lower than C+ then you should lower their 3pt tendencies to 20 or lower, because it allows for more shots for the team. That could possibly be why the PF's aren't getting the touches. Or it could just be the PF's tendencies.

        Re: Anyone have any CPU vs CPU or coach slider sets?

        I have messed with tendencies for individual PFs with mixed results. Contributing factors are that I always have high level SGs and SFs, and the game favors the perimeter game at those positions. I also lower Close tendencies to offset the relative ease of feeding the post in 2K8.

        Your comment on lowering 3PT tendencies is interesting to me, and I will look into that for sure.

          Here are my sliders. When I am satisfied with them, I will post in a dedicated thread all of my observations and motivations for why I do things a certain way and, also, what house rules I use. But feel free to take these for what they are:

          (These sliders are designed to produce results that are consistent with simulation stats. Likewise, I try to manipulate sim stats to get as close to real life as I can.)

          Before Each Played (Watched) Game:
          Go to opposing Coach make these changes:
          1. No change to Tempo;
          2. Divide Defensive Pressure by 2 and round down (NO CHANGE TO Def Pressure - leave it at whatever the coach setting is by default);
          3. Divide Fast Break by 2, round down and add 40 (except I leave anything over 80 alone);
          4. Divide Crash Board by 2, round up, and add 50.
          ALSO, Change Offensive Playbook to ALL PLAYS
          Subtract 1 from BENCH DEPTH (CPU goes too deep in-game)
          [NOTE - Your Coach should already have been adjusted in the same way]

          Then go to the Opposing Team Roster and AUTO-GENERATE the rotation.

          This should get you up and running. I have several other tweaks and management strats for legacy mode, but it is too detailed for this post. I am happy to answer questions, etc., on particular elements of this setup.

            Re: Anyone have any CPU vs CPU or coach slider sets?

            I actually just revised the Tendencies (edits already made to post above - changes in parentheses):
            Close 6 (up from 5)
            Mid 23 (down from 24)
            3pt 16
            Drive 60 (down from 64)

            I watched a game where the opposing team (a decent mid-major) really committed to inside scoring. It was very effective.

            I believe that the higher rated teams simply have better guard play and those guys have the ball more and dictate the flow of the offense. As a result, you just see more scoring from those positions on more elite teams.

                Do I need to put in these sliders before I start a legacy? I have many saved legacy's and wanted to use your slider set. Do I manually have to go into each legacy and adjust all of the settings?

                Your sliders and gameplay look awesome. Thanks for sharing sliders. Would you use same slider for College Hoops 2k7?

                  Re: Anyone have any CPU vs CPU or coach slider sets?

                  1. You should be able to adjust sliders at any time, even during a game, and they should continue to be effective.

                  2. You will have to manually adjust each legacy.

                  3. Honestly, I cannot remember enough about 2K7 to answer. Somewhere buried in this forum, my 2K7 sliders are still hanging around, I am sure. Those were for PS2 if I remember correctly, so I don't know how valuable they would be. They were probably very similar to jukeman's set, since a group of us were all buying in to that philosophy at that time.

                  Jukeman's setup was fun and challenging and produced great results. I just happened to find some theories on NBA2K forums and applied those theories to CH2K8. I really did not expect it to work, but these sliders have reinvented the game for me. Frankly, games are more fluid, varied, exciting and unpredictable.

                  I have tweaked a few sliders since I posted. I feel pretty good about frontcourt scoring now, and I found that my mid-range and close-range FG% was a little low as a result of more contested shots at the F/C positions.

                  I may test the effect of the Defensive Pressure slider on the Coach Settings screen. I am interested in how that will effect spacing on the floor. My concern is that it will lead to a disparity of fouls between an aggressive defense and a conservative defense. While I may enjoy the tradeoff between fouls and defensive pressure, I do not feel that the CPU would adjust during a game. The end result will be that the aggressive team would end up in foul trouble yet not adjust its style of play to remain competitive. By 'squishing' the Defensive Pressure settings, I am able to normalize the fouls in each game and reduce any artificial advantage one team might have just based on an arbitrary coach setting.

                    I played a few games with your sliders and I like them so far. Is there any specific reasons for doing your def pressure and fastbreak settings? Because I am currently using a edited set for tempo and def pressure that are pretty low already.

                    Also I'm really interested in your legacy tweaks whenever you get a chance to post them.

                      That's a nuance I did not consider when posting. Coaches in my dynasty are closer to their settings coming out of the box (default rosters). I do not use default rosters, but the coaches are not far off of the 2K ratings. A fast-paced run and gun Nolan Richardson style coach will have a tempo over 80 and fast break at 90+, while Tony Bennett might have defensive pressure at 80+ and tempo in the 20-25 range.

                      My system assumes a true 0-100 sim setting, then normalizes that to fit my sliders by 'squishing' those coach slider ranges (for example, fast break is 40-100 rather than 0-100, and crash boards is 50-100 rather than 0-100).

                      The crash board setting is crucial or you will never see a reasonable number of offensive rebounds, and as a result, no second chance points, reduced inside scoring, lower FG%, etc. This is not an attempt to manufacture these stats; on the contrary, this provides a much more organic flow and appropriately spreads emphasis on many aspects of player attributes.

                      Without these changes, I strongly feel that you could establish a nearly unbeatable system just by recruiting a star SF, for example, every other season and just outscore better teams. I strive for sliders that offer many strategies for success in legacy; in CPUvCPU, this means roster composition, roster management, and play style.

                      Without looking at your edited coaches, I cannot comment except to say that, for played games, Tempo should be 0-100, Def Pressure 0-50 (although I am still looking at the impact here), Fast break 40-100, with most teams 55-80, and Crash Boards 50-100.

                      I will post legacy tweaks in a separate post, since this one is a little long.

                        My legacy tweaks are extensive for casual gaming. These mostly include:

                        Player Edits to Incoming Freshmen

                        Ratings

                        Dunk: All players who can dunk need Dunk=90-99.

                        Taller PF/Cs should have Standing Dunk = 99.

                        FT edits: general rule: players shoot 3-5% below FT rating in sim,
                        players shoot 2-4% above FT rating in game

                        No adjustment to AAs

                        Small schools: (+5-10) Free Throw to all players under 78;

                        Mid Major: No change unless way too low;

                        Majors: remember, no adjustment to AAs
                        (-10) if FT=84+
                        (-5) if FT=80-83

                        Edits to incoming All-Americans: this assumes 24 AAs
                        <dir> <dir> The "One-and-Dones" - These are the Top 3 overall recruits (but only one per position) plus use a random number generator to pick additional AAs across all positions and edit according to the following:
                        Add +40 to Off Awareness up to 99, and any remaining points go to Def Awareness;
                        Add +5 to Stamina;
                        Add +10 to Consistency, remainder over 99 goes to Hustle
                        Add +20 to Confidence, remainder over 99 goes to Consistency;
                        Clutch and Shoot in Traffic = 90 minimum;
                        PG - Ballhandling and passing = 90 min;
                        Add to other stats to make player OVR >90;
                        </dir></dir><dir> <dir> Add +25 to all appropriate Shot Tendencies. Be careful of 3pt Tend. for PG, SG, SF
                        Add +1" to SF/PF
                        </dir></dir>

                        The "Busts" - pick 4-6 AAs randomly across all positions and
                        Subtract -10 from Off Awareness;
                        Subtract -10 from Def Awareness;
                        Add +15 to Potential, remainder over 99 goes to Hustle;
                        Add +20 to Confidence, remainder over 99 goes to Hustle;
                        Add +25 to all appropriate Shot Tendencies

                        The "Super Sophs" - Pick 6-8 second-tier NBA types to give +20 to Off Awareness, +25 to all appropriate Shot Tendencies as follows:
                        All non-Bust Top 50 PFs

                         C    7'1"+                -2                                  -1                           -1
                         6'11"-7'         -1 if OVR 80+
                                             -2 if OVR < 80

                        These are guidelines and never absolute. Sometimes if I gimp a team on height, I might add to VERTICAL rating and make them more athletic to compensate. I might vary FT% up and down. I always bump up recruits at Kentucky, KU, Duke, etc., just to keep Elite power teams where they are if I can.

                        My system for choosing All Americans to edit is more elaborate really than what I have here.

                        This should give you some idea of what I generally do. I edit a few conferences, then play a game or two, so that I do not get bogged down and bored. I also mark a lot of games as 'automatic wins' for major programs against bad teams, so that I get better RPI representation and WAY fewer upsets (essentially I "sim to end" these games with hoopcast.

                          Do you "import" the classes into 2k15/16 or still import them to nba 2k8? Just curious by your "busts" and "super sophmore" sections.

                            Neither. I just like the dynamic of one and two-year players.

                            In my current season, I ended up with a bust at SG, and a conference rival scored a gem. This really shifts the dynamic of the conference race.

                              Ok, sorry for the questions but I've been playing this game forever and am fascinated when I come across others with methods/etc to make the game more interesting; but could you explain your height edits, free throw edits (I've been playing alot of games, and think I understand, but would love to hear you explanation), and you're method of selection the AA's to edit.

                              My method of editing freshman is a mixture of juke's and another member here, I forgot his name through. I nowadays just give players 99's in AWR and Potential, since I went so long without editing, leaving super teams with super high ratings, which made it harder to get freshman and sophmores to leave. Also if they don't leave by their Soph season it's mainly because of height and/or not being skilled enough for their position, or even low durability/stamina.

                              Also, I've been editing the heights of centers, I think it was juke that suggested that. Limiting the amount of 7 footers.
