UPDATE
I was getting 5-10 more possessions per game than I feel I should have with my sliders. I played around with tendencies, Off and Def Awareness, Steal sliders, and finally Help D and Recovery.
A combination of these sliders helped bring everything into place. Interestingly but not surprisingly, we have come full circle in a way because Centers/Inside Scorers just cannot get enough touches when paired with strong perimeter players. Unfortunately, the game engine really overvalues height and inside offensive presence, or perhaps just generates too many strong inside scorers. This is the next and hopefully last inquiry I make into this game.
I will post the new set soon. I still believe any set since V2 in this thread should give a good game, but I think I am very close to a balanced game which relies most on player ratings.
I appreciate all the views on this thread, which is why I keep fine-tuning.Comment

- I have not had enough opportunities to run games with dominant inside scorers, but so far it seems that Centers will fare worse in Version 5 than in versions 3 or 4, but overall post players do impact the game offensively.
- Version 5 provides a more deliberate style and pace, but still serves up some highlight reel moments. If you like the wide open run and gun dunkfest of previous versions, you may not want to switch to this (V5).
ISSUES
- So far, so good, actually. I want to see a 30-point game from someone, but have not with this version. I am looking at the impact of Def Awareness and may lower it if the other changes are not impacted.Comment

- So far, so good, actually. I want to see a 30-point game from someone, but have not with this version. I am looking at the impact of Def Awareness and may lower it if the other changes are not impacted.

I do not anticipate another major change, but I have said that before I think. I am still tweaking FG%, Help D/Recovery, and foul tendencies slightly to account for the change of pace.
I also edit MID and 3PT ratings to 75 (if below) for those players with tendencies over 50, and BH (80) and PASS (75) for PGs. These edits are not necessary but preferable, so if you do not edit (small schools mostly) then you will experience more disparate stats from 3p range and mid range. This will even out in conference since most teams are on equal footing, but you may have to raise these % sliders slightly absent edits.Comment

Fixing sim results is probably the most tedious and time-consuming part of my legacy, but I can't deal with the frequency of crazy results. The ripple effect over just one season is substantial.
My solution is just one possible way to address this; there are always other, more efficient workarounds. It is nice that the 2K team provided such a great 'sandbox' mode for editing. It has kept this game playable for me for years.Comment

Version 5.0 - With very high rated teams, I experience slightly low 2pt FG% and too many FGAs. This results in too many rebounds. Other than that, I think these sliders play pretty well. I have made a few slight changes which I will post soon. If you like the all-out NBA Jam offensive showcase, the previous version is going to be more fun.
I want to find out if my results are just a symptom of a very high-rated team, while general results are good, or if the FGAs are an issue I can tweak into line with the sim stats. Thus, I will be testing at lower Off Aw and very low tendencies. I also intend to play-test the impact of Help D at extreme numbers. If there is no overall improvement, Then I will release 5.1 and call it good.

NOTES
Game Speed vs. Player Speed - I dropped Player Speed again because guys move to fast relative to the clock. Unfortunately, so does the ball, and if you slow the ball down, the clock slows down too. I am worried about dropping Player Speed any further because then defensive players cannot recover fast enough against ball reversals or give and go's. So far, this setting is giving some open looks, which should happen, but I am watching to make sure it is not out of control. I do not want to raise Help Recovery any further because I am afraid that will cut off dribble penetration as a side effect.
Mid FG% and 3pFG% - As you may have noticed, these ratings are bouncing back and forth. That means we hit a sweet spot with these sliders.Comment

The Help Recovery creates better close-outs on 3pt attempts. It also provides more collisions. I think it does a better job of simulating defender's instincts.
Perhaps a low help recovery and much lower drive tendency would work out. I needed more dribbling and chaos in the offensive set, which is why I have a high drive tendency slider.Comment

Thanks for the kind words and feedback.
I dropped Off Awareness to 50 to see what effect that would have on number of possessions and shot selection. I have not noticed a difference. If anything, big men look more inept offensively. I will probably trash that change, as I believe Off Awareness would have to be well under 50 to bring possessions/game in line and that would take the air out of the great offensive plays the last few versions of these sliders can produce.Comment

I'm obviously still playing this game, even in the summer.
The latest edits are my effort to slow the pace and get more attempts later in the shot clock, without sacrificing the great one-on-one and two-man situations, the threes dropping in transition, etc. Part of the issue is my edits.
I have learned that you have to edit carefully. Sometimes I would not make an elite player good enough, and he would stay for his sophomore year. I was okay with this until I found that, every once in a while, I would see an impossibly good team.
As a result, I am now working on a more detailed system for edits based on my posted system. I suspect my final system will include some application of global "recruiting rules" and a limit on elite players going to overloaded teams or non-elite teams in consecutive years.
I am working through a season with a loaded roster right now, where I have four returning starters, a sixth man that will be drafted, and the best Center to play college ball in the last 20 years of my legacy. This will give me some good insight on the limits of my system, I think.Comment
