I can tell you if you'll like NCAA 09 before you buy the game...

If you've played H.S. or College ball in REAL LIFE, you will like NCAA 09. However, if you're more a fan of the game or prefer stats/dynasty over the gameplay itself, then NCAA 09 is not for you. Maybe its small sample but of the 7 people I know that bought this game, 3 played BB in real life and love the game; the other 4 did not and they don't care for it.

Having played College Ball I can tell you it feels right... it may not have the dynasty and currently doesn't have accurate schedules, it doesn't have the 'features' of CH2k, etc but it has the gameplay. Trust me, give it some 'run time' and you'll see what I'm talking about. I've always been a CH2k guy (since 03) but the game never flowed. It never felt like I was playing a real game of basketball. By 2k8, I could manipulate the game due to its rigid coding.

NCAA 09 feels more alive and realistic. On these boards, I think you'll find that people that play basketball in real life will really like NCAA 09 but people that are more stat / dynasty type guys and maybe not as athletic won't appreciate the game.

Say what? Can you please explain to me how being athletic has anything to do with the enjoyment of a basketball video game?

Actually, pretty easily. If you've played organized BASKETBALL you will find NCAA 09 more realistic. If you haven't played organized BASKETBALL then the 'feel' of NCAA 09 will be foreign to you and won't be as important. Features, stats, dynasty options, etc will probably be more important to you.

I don't own the game yet, but wanted to post this....

I coach boys basketball for an elementary school, and there are just some things I appreciate more in the NCAA 09 demo than I do in CH 2k8. And I have to say the CH 2k8 is my favorite game of all time....it was truly a gem to me. But stuff I am seeing in the demo (which I really enjoy btw) like, floor spacing, emphasis on controling the tempo (I love this!), players getting in triple threat position every time they catch a pass, the limited time you get during timeouts to make crucial decisions (rather than just using timeouts to ''re-energize" your players forcing you to truly use your timeouts wisely)....i just don't see this in CH 2k8.

Ok....so tell me if I will like this game or not. I consider myself somewhat athletic now, but more so when I was younger. I played basketball in high school and averaged 15 ppg my junior year and 19 ppg my senior year. I led my conference in 3-point goals made my senior season. I once had 21 rebounds in a game and wore Nike shoes my senior season. I also used to enjoy chewing gum while I played and love eating pizza most days of the week. My sophomore season I played mostly JV but did see some varsity action. I also have coached 7th and 8th grade boys basketball teams in the past. Here's the kicker, I enjoy good gameplay on sports games, however I also am a huge stats/dynasty guy. So tell me, will I like this game?

I'm not quite sure I understand how you are calculating how we should like or dislike this game based on athleticism and whether we like dynasties.

If you've truly played H.S. basketball, then I'm willing to bet you'll find the gameplay in NCAA 09 more satisfying/rewarding then the gameplay in CH2k8. Like you, I enjoy dynasty options, stats, etc but not at the expense of actual gameplay. Having played the sport, the authenticity of the game itself is more important to me, then the features...

I'm willing to bet that after you play NCAA 09 for a while and adjust to the controls, you'll prefer NCAA 09 to CH2k8. I've had flashbacks to the college days playing NCAA 09... (particularly, getting caught in a give and go and afterwards... the coach blew me up on the bench) and that never happened in CH2k. I knew how to hit the speed button at the right time that would throw off the animation which would nulify that AI script...

I played and coach and I think it is an awful representation of NCAA Basketball.

Played in college, coached AAU and I'm now a certified official.

I like the gameplay in 09, a lot, and I've barely touched the sliders yet.

I bought EA college hoops and plan on playing it, but the 2k game was FAR
more representative of realistic looking game play.

I think the OP is right on the money with his views.

I've played all my life. HS 1st Team All Conf, played at a small D1 school in Pittsburgh, Assistant Coach with my dad who played at FSU years ago at D2 school for 4 years. Dad was drafted by the Celtics back in the day. So I was around bball my entire life. Wether I wanted to or not. I remember my dad teaching me plays, the funds, and every other part of the game before I could even shoot the ball on regulation rim.

So if you played organized ball then you will have more of an appreciation for how the game is played. So it would translate into the feel of NCAA 09 as a video game. Not that the gameplay of NCAA is great, there are some areas that need work but, the overall feel of the game. The up and down attack on both ends or the slow down pace of the game will be more understood if you've play in HS or College.

With that being said. I played with my school that I played on in college against NC and got pressed out the gym on 20 min half on all conf with default sliders. Lost by 30 and I was ok with it. My girl was like you lost the cpu and was making fun of me. But, the entire time I was being ran up down the gym I was perfectly fine with it. I wasn't supposed to go into NC gym and when. Thats what happens in real life. I remember going to Kentucky my fresh year and Tony Delk and Ron Mercer torched us by 40.

I played to same game against a team in my NEC conf and won by 5 in OT. Same default everything.

Next game was against Florida A&M and won by 15 default sliders.

I also play 3 games, The best team, team in my conf and the worst to get a feel of how each team plays. They all played different.

That's what I love about the game so far. I will continue to play other teams with different styles to see how the game plays once I get the hang of everything.

On a side note: I will avenge my lost to NC when they come to RMU!!!

Well I did actually play in high school and I've also coached some middle school teams, but I don't understand why we should have to sacrifice something, either gameply or a great dynasty. To me these games should offer both. Anyway, I haven't gotten the game yet but I plan on getting it Friday. I did enjoy the demo much more than I expected.

I agree and hopefully we will have both in the future but let's not forget that CH2K wasn't perfect, nor did it have an amazing legacy mode, until 2K8. These things take time.

There were still plenty of issues with 2K7's legacy mode and even 2K8 prepatch. Way too many 5-star recruits, way too many "world" recruits, tons of 6'10-7'1 recruits a few years into dynasty mode, too easy to sign highly rated recruits, too many star players staying four years resulting in tons of teams being 99 ovr, etc.
