    Re: Reggie Miller Tribute Thread

It just hit me lasst night that an era in the NBA is over. Reggie was the last of the superstars I grew up with watching the NBA from its Golden Era (1979 - 1993, IMO of course).

That's it. He was THE last one.

Yep, that 90s era is just about at a close.

      Michael Jordan
      John Stockton
      Karl Malone
      Hakeem Olajuwon
      Patrick Ewing
      David Robinson
      Charles Barkley
      Isaiah Thomas
      Regge Miller

All we have left now are Gary Payton, Alonzo Mourning, and Mutumbo.

        Penny Hardaway doesn't count?

        What about Grant Hill?

        Christian Laettner (snicker)?

No, they don't count. Consistency and longevity is key.

:y4: Good ole Penny... where is he even playing these days?

Grant has been injured too much to put them in that class.

You can't deny that they were stars in the 90s though. He said 90s era. Hardaway and Hill were consistent stars in the 90s. They didn't slip until 2000.

To consider Penny, you'd have to consider Shaq.

To consider Grant, you'd have to consider J-Kidd.

Excellent points. They should absolutely be on the shortlist.

                    Group A:

                    Michael Jordan
                    John Stockton
                    Karl Malone
                    Hakeem Olajuwon
                    Patrick Ewing
                    David Robinson
                    Charles Barkley
                    Isaiah Thomas
                    Regge Miller

                    Group B:

                    Hill
                    Hardaway

Look at group A, then group B, and try to give me an explanation as to why Hill and Hardaway deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as those in Group A.

Hill and Penny aren't on their way to the Hall, and although they played well for 5 or 6 years in the 90's, they hardly defined that generation.

Anyway, to keep this thread on topic, Reggie will be missed, and definitely should be considered one of the game's greatest.

The league just lost a great player in Reggie Miller. I wish him the best in his career after basketball and I want to thank him for the memories.

                      He will be missed...

Its sad to see Miller go. He symbolized so much and is one of the last old hall of famers. Now the game has pretty much been passed over to the younger generation. He had a great career and it would have been really nice if he had gotten a ring, but he still had a magnificent career and is one of the most clutch players ever.
Just wait till Arsenal moves into Emirates Stadium.

I just started getting into the NBA deeply this year after being so-so about it last two years. I always did love Reggi though knowing the history but unfortunately didnt get to see him play too much, although I did see 7 games against Boston this year. I think the single moment I have personally seen of him that I'll remember most was taking a big three against Boston in a huge playoff game, I think it was game 6, and it was off and while Ricky Davis, who played the shot great, is in the air to the side of him Reggie sticks his foot way out and Ricky gets called for the foul. Should've been a foul on Reggie, but despite it being dirty, that si what you usually have to do to win and is was a great play, but I was flipping at the time.
