Re: Need info from everyone who has NBA Drive 2003

just keep in mind that you CAN NOT change the quarter length. So choose wisely.

ID2003 is the first game ever that i play 12 minute quarters.

I turned down 2pt, 3pt, and hookshots by two-three notches (i'm still looking for the best setting) and get an average of 45% shooting. I take my time on offense and see realistic scores -- so far 97-96 and 101-89

I just wish we could get to the line more. but it's still kool.

also, what you guys said about teams playing like their real counterparts...AMAZING! I played the Celtics in a game with the Bulls and Walker and Pierce kept pulling up three after three. I think they had close to 25 attempts in the game as a team.

I also played Philly and Iverson always gets the ball. He also drives like Iverson. Most guards in ID would stay back around the arc...but Iverson actually fights for the ball in the paint and was all over the place.

Miami loves to play the isolation (a favorite of Pat Rileys) for their hot player. I didnt even realize it till after the game that my defensive stance against Miami was totally different than Philly. With Philly I had to chase Iveson around, but with Miami I was always in a one on one situation against the hot player while the other players moved to the outside and just watched. Impressive stuff.

One last thing, anybody else notice that ID has something that 2k3 has that no one mentioned? It's the different hair styles. Sega pretty much marketed the whole deal that Ben Wallace might have the fro one day and the braids the other. Iverson also has different cornrows. Well this is also in ID2003.

    So far I've noticed:

    Ben Wallace: Fro, Crownrows
    Jermaine O'Neal: Headband, NO headband

    Any others people have noticed???

Yeah, Yankee. I noticed that too. One game, Iverson was wearing a headband and another game he wasn't. I think his cornrows changed too. Cool stuff!

Re: Need info from everyone who has NBA Drive 2003

God, it sounds like I may be making yet ANOTHER trade-in on a B-Ball game. I bought 2K3 the day it came out and wasn't blown away by it. then I got caught up in the "OMG...Live is SOOOOO MUCH better/Freestyle control is the greatest basketball gaming innovation ever!!!" hype and returned 2K3 for Live. Then, after being nearly completely turned off by Live's gameplay, I traded it in to get 2K3 back. Now, after 2 weeks of solid play, I realize that 2K3 has significant AI holes and ceases to be a challenge with any team, despite my constant manipulation of the cryptic sliders.

Now I come in here and everyone's talking about how much more solid ID2003 is in gameplay than the other two. Christ, will this ever end? I just want a B-Ball game that I can enjoy for more than 2 weeks. My question here is this: how is ID's franchise mode? I know it isn't as flashy or pretty as 2K3's, but is it solid? Does the computer make sensible trades? Is the draft enjoyable? Do the player ratings matter? Does the CPU make its own GM moves independent of the player? If the franchise mode is solid, then it looks like I'll be making another trade-in .

          Steelerforlife-

Make one more trade in man, I think you'll be happy in the end. If your a true simluation basketball fan, then you would know after playing ID that it has the deepest and most realistic freeflowing game around. You dont notice the little things that make this great at first, but you will see it after 5 or so games, i'm serious about that.

I think thats why this game didnt get GREAT reviews because reviewers dont have the time anymore to play THOUGH games, they just see the icing on the top. That why I give props to OS for playing through their sports games and giving them honest reviews.

Ask for Franchise, Can't give too much info except for after 15 games so far, injuries have been VERY realistic and they happen at the right moment during gameplay, I dont know, kinda hard to explain, but its kool. Pierce, had a broken toe and wast out for a week, Bremer is out for 43 DAYS?!? for a broken arm. Baker out for 2 days with a sore back, very realistic.

The CPU offered me one trade so far. I dont remember who it was, but I remember it being almost a fair trade, but I didnt accept. The CPU makes some moves, but nothing drastic so far. Just releasing sorry players,a nd signing players from the free agent list. No Big trades so far.

The Franchise mode to me is very solid. I like how the stats are laid out and presented, better than 2k3 imo. And it keeps track of double doubles, triple doubles, player of the game, 30+, 40+ and 50+ games of EVERY player. i love that.

But my favortie part is that EVRY single game feels different than the other. You really have to change your style of play ALOT. Sometimes I run High Tempo and it works with some slow teams, but then if you do that with SAC for intense, you will get burned and your primary players will be on the bench a lot because their tired. You also have to switch between sow tempo pace game and zone, man to man, double team. Every game is different.

          Get this game dude.

I'm getting ID tonight because I'm not completely happy with 2k3.

But, I need two questions answered.

            1. Can you add accessories to existing players?
            2. Do most of the non superstars like Kenyon have all their tattoos and such?

Re: Need info from everyone who has NBA Drive 2003

I also am having a very easy time with NBA 2K3 on all-star level, even after fiddling with the sliders. Nothing works! I am 16-3 with the Wizards and I never lose. So I have 4 questions regarding ID 2003:

                    1. How are the graphics in comparison to 2K3?
                    2. Is there a side view like in 2K3?
                    3. Will I get realistic scores and results or will I go 80-2 with the Wizards with Jordan averaging 40 ppg?
                    4. Does the spin move work every time? Are the controls similar to 2K3?

                    Please give me some info.

                        1. How are the graphics in comparison to 2K3?
The graphics are good. Not like 2k3's by any means, but the player models are excellent. You won't see the sweat effects or anything.
                        2. Is there a side view like in 2K3?
I wouldn't be playing it if there wasn't. But I really recommend broadcast view.
                        3. Will I get realistic scores and results or will I go 80-2 with the Wizards with Jordan averaging 40 ppg?
He he he... Not unless you play on rookie, and even then, I don't know if you could. The AI in this game presents a new challenge every game. Another words, you can't find a sure fire way to win a la 2k3.
                        4. Does the spin move work every time? Are the controls similar to 2K3?
No, they don't, but if they did there is a slider to fix it. Yeah, I think they are almost the exact same.

Saying all of that. I am having the most fun out of this game this year. It is too damn addicting too!

I'm starting to get used to this one more, and I gotta admit the challenge is there. 2k3 DOES get a little easy if you exploit the star players, since their drives and spins almost work 100% of the time and the cpu defense doesn't switch fast enough to cover you. In ID players switch very quickly (making pick and rolls work realistically if you can get the pass in there) and I haven't been able to find much to exploit yet

The only thing I don't dig is the rebounding. There is some lag after the button press almost making you want to jump before the shot ball even reaches the basket. In fact, you will see the cpu doing just that. The solution is to just do that yourself (instead of the preferred method of boxing out first and predicting trajectory), but that opens the door to some goaltending calls. The half court shot seems very easy to drain too. I've seen way too many in a lot of games.

Other than that I like what I see so far. NBA2k3 presentation kills it overall, but ID2k3's in game commentary is ten times better. Neither game seems to push the crowd enough, and the graphics look a little strange to me..but it really isn't that bad. Didn't expect to like it so much.

you've gotten halfcourt shots to fall?

dayam, i havent come close. most of my attempts and the CPU's end up either hitting the side of the backboard or missing the rim all together.

i really do wish that games will let you shoot the ball about 2 seconds after the shot clock and end of quarter. I would love to see the refs say "no basket" or something.

maybe its in there, but ihavent seen it. then again most of my last second shot attempts have come with 0.2 left and no one can get a shot up in that time.

which is also why i wish the game had a tip in play. a player could rotate toward the basket (you pick the player) and on the inbounds you heave a high pass toward the basket in the hopes that the player can tip it. there could be some dramatics as the opposing players will also crowd the passing lane and tip the ball away and end the game. that would be great.

I wasn't going to buy a bball game at all but it looks like ID 2003 is so good that I can't do nothing but buy it. Just one question that nobody has asked thus far: is there any CPU comeback AI or cheating?

From what I've seen the CPU plays a very realistic game of basketball throughout. Others may have more experience than me. You may want to rent it first anyway though. I've got lots of good things to say about the game but overall it still just isn't right for me.
