Dallas Mavericks center Shawn Bradley has informed the team of his intention to retire and is negotiating a buyout of his contract.

Bradley and the Mavericks, according to team sources, are close to finalizing a buyout arrangement. The 33-year-old has three seasons left on his contract at $14.5 million.

It's believed that Bradley, who struggled with knee and hip injuries this season, is leaving the game after 12 years for health and family reasons. He and wife Annette recently had their sixth child.

With Bradley possibly in need of additional surgery, Dallas is expected to forward his case to an independent doctor for review. If Bradley's injuries are determined to be career-ending, the balance of his contract would drop off the Dallas payroll after one season. If the injuries are not deemed career-ending, his contract remains on the Mavericks' cap.

So who's gonna be the new poster child for posterization?

So who's gonna be the new poster child for posterization?

Yao ming has already made some nice posters. With bradley gone there will be some more room for the ming dynasty collection.

I'm happy for the guy. Couldn't stand him as a player in Dallas, but I always felt for him because of the jeers he took around the league and from players on other teams. Somehow, it's always cool to rag on the gangly white guy.

He obviously traded being a travelling freak show for millions of dollars, so I don't feel THAT sorry for him.

Plus, his wife is about 5-4, and she's hot. He's doing OK.

Only Erod would enter race into the conversation. Manute Bol got dunked on alot and was ragged on just as much as Shawn Bradley. He wasnt ragged on because he was white, he was ragged on because he sucked.

Hey, I ragged on Bradley, too, I admit. Not trying to inject race. Big, awkward white guys in January without a hint of a tan or cooridination do look funny. That's not racial, it's just true.

However, in retrospect, people were pretty cruel to Bradley, who otherwise seems like a pretty good guy.
