Originally posted by ErodHey, I ragged on Bradley, too, I admit. Not trying to inject race. Big, awkward white guys in January without a hint of a tan or cooridination do look funny. That's not racial, it's just true.
However, in retrospect, people were pretty cruel to Bradley, who otherwise seems like a pretty good guy.
Bradley never did the job he was hired to do with the exception of his last contract year in the playoffs vs SA. He was a joke of a player, race has nothing to do with it. Any guy that is 7-6 but can't get off the bench to play against a 7-5 player is a waste of money for that team. Him being a nice guy off the court has nothing to do with him on the court especially since he always refused to work on his game in the summers. He always declined the Mavs insistence that he go to the big man camp. As a Mav fan, I'm glad he is retiring so a roster spot can open up for DJ Mbenga and Pavel Podkolzin. We gotta see what they can do.The Sports Preacher

Re: Shawn Bradley retirring
ask any player in the league how hard is it to shot a 10footer over him and the reason he is on so many posters is b/c he trys to block shots un-like many other 7footers.....................when i was younger when the sixers drafted i thought he sucked but after talking with nba players and watching him alot i started to see he does his job and makes an impact on DComment

Re: Shawn Bradley retirring
Bradley was very frustrating because one game he'll completely alter the other team's offense and the next 3-4 weeks, he'll do nothing for the team. Very inconsistent like most big men.
Bradley needed to retire and I'm very glad he is doing so. Avery Johnson wasn't planning on giving him any PT this coming season and being a 3rd stringer wasn't much good for us with two youngsters in DJ and Pavel, though they will likely be in the NBDL this coming season.
As far as Bradley contesting a lot of shots. No. A lot of times he'd back down and that was sooooo frustrating. All Shawn Bradley had to do was knock the hell out of one player when he drove the lane. I mean get a freaking flagrant foul and guys would stop trying to do that against him at every oppurtunity, but Shawn was too nice of a guy to do that.
He was a very good center earlier in his career, including back to back seasons of 15ppg,9rpg,3bpg and then 14ppg, 8rpg, 4bpg. 2/3's of teams today would love their center to put those numbers up.
Bradley was a bust to where he was picked, but it was simply a horrible pick by PHI (was it?). He probably played up to his potential, but the fact the was taken so high really killed his career for the get-go.
For both Bradley and Dallas, thank goodness he's retiring.Comment

^^^^^^^^watch games not highlites and u will see
If Bradley isn't duckin for cover before he gets BANGED ON, he's tryin to take some idiotic charge that ends up as a three point play. Most Maverick fans would be thrilled with Bradley if he AT THE VERY LEAST, would try and contest a shot, let alone block it.....Comment

Re: Shawn Bradley retirring
I never liked Bradly because he had no desire to get bigger or better. He could have been a force if he would have wanted to succeed in the league more. Those 2 years on his mission softened the crap out of him.Comment

Re: Shawn Bradley retirring
I dont exactly remember him altering too many shots, but i do remember him getting into 4-6 fights over his career and getting tackled and thrown to the ground numerous times.
he definetly got ragged on undeservingly.. i agree with erod thoughComment
