H.Grant - every time I come to these boards, people mention rings. H.Grant's got rings. Really want to get technical, then dont count Rodman's years with the Bulls. He was just Grants replacement b/c Grant wanted more money.

    Chambers - Career Avg of 18 ppg 6 rpg (Highs - 1989 - 25ppg 8 rpg, 1990 - 27ppg 7 rpg)

Coleman - Career Avg of 16 ppg 9 rpg. i admit, his attitude was jacked up. But the guy was productive, for all you stat junkies.

Cumming - Career Avg of 16 ppg 7 rpg. (8 seaons of at least 20ppg 8 rpg)

    B.Williams - Career Avg of 12 ppg 10 rpg. (7 seaons of at least 15ppg 12 rpg)

McDaniel - Career Avg of 15 ppg 6 rpg. (5 seaons of at least 20ppg)

Some of you guys opinions are personal, thats cool. But stats dont lie. These guys had stats that are better or at least equal to Rodmans. Rodman was GOOD. This is the same guy that made a driving layup in the Finals against the Lakers and the ball missed the WHOLE backboad.
That's where you are wrong... Stats DO lie... Stats NEVER tell the whole story. You're dismissing the "stat junkies" and preaching like one at the same time. Where are Ho Grant's stats? Not as impressive because he played with other talent.

Who was taking rebounds and front court points from Tom Chambers in PHO? Nobody. He played with a great PG and very little other talent. That's how you accumulate stats. Plus, his time in Seattle...they played a pure run and gun.

Who was Derrick Coleman's best teammate in his prime?

Terry Cummings had one good season with David Robinson, never the same after that. His big point years were in Milwaukee with nothing but an aging Jack Sikma to share the ball.

Buck Williams got all his big years in Jersey with little talent around. I don't believe he ever scored more than 8 or 9 ppg in Portland and he only got double-digit boards because Porter, Drexler, and Kersey didn't rebound...and...Kevin Duckworth was lucky to find his *** with both hands.

Like Chambers, X-Man benefited from playing that early 80's Seattle ball. They did nothing but run. That's why he got less than 5 or 6 rebounds per. They played all transition. I will give X credit for one thing...he got his teams to the playoffs and his play was consistent in the 2nd season too.

NOW...all that being said... I like most of these players.

But, to throw out one stat for the stat folks... Are you familiar with John Hollingers formula for "Rebound Rate"??? It is basically the measure of what percentage of the available rebounds were gotten by a particular player during his time on the floor.

David Robinson got about 17% of all rebounds while he was on the floor
    Patrick Ewing was about 15.5%
Ben Wallace, arguably the current premier rebounder gets about 18.4%

Dennis Rodman got 23.7% of the rebounds available while he was on the floor.

Think about that 1 in 4 missed shots... that's a GREAT player!

Lets some of the Top PFs.

      McHale
      H.Grant
      Chambers
      McDaniel
      Coleman (yes Coleman)
      Barkley
      Malone
      Cummings
      Williams (Buck)
      Dantley
      Duncan

I havent went old school yet, these are all pretty recent guys. Rodman was good, no doubt, but not great. His shoot was horrid at best. The only reason it was over 50% for his career was b/c he got them on tip-ins. And passing God awful. He never avg more than 3 assist a game, which he only did once. Career average was 7ppg. I agree he was good, but great? Please.
McHale-- great player and more balanced offense/defense but Id still take the more athletic defensive dominant Rodman

H.Grant-- Nice player but didnt do the dirty work Rodman did, Id still take Rodman.

      Chambers-- Nice one, funny man.

      McDaniel-- See above

Coleman (yes Coleman)-- Coleman= Poor mans Rodman.

Barkley-- See McHale. If I had no offensive options I might take Barkley but if I have others to provide offense, Id take Rodman who was a defensive force.

Malone-- Was to offense what Rodman was to defense. See Barkley comment.

      Cummings-- See Chambers comment

Williams (Buck)-- Not even in McHales, Barkleys, Malones or Rodmans class. Get that weak sh*t out of here!

      Dantley-- See Buck Williams comment

Duncan-- In the same echelon with McHale, Barkley and co....but tough to guage since he plays in todays diluted NBA.
