    Sean Elliot talks Ginobili haters

    "Rasheed Wallace was asked why Ginobili was so tough to guard earlier in the series. Wallace refused to give Ginobili his due, stopping just short of putting him down as a player while making it clear he did not think Ginobili was a special talent. Sean Elliott, the former NBA forward who now works as a radio and TV analyst for the Spurs, has seen this dismissive behavior before by NBA players when it comes to Ginobili. He believes it goes much further than merely professional jealousy. "When you have a Dirk Nowitzki or Larry Bird-type players, big guys who play their positions well, there's not a lot of backlash," Elliott said. "But when you have a 6-6 white guy beating the black player at his own game, then it's a little different. Every series he's been in, guys have been slow to give him respect. It's an amazing phenomenon." Washington Post Link

    Not sure what he's implying here Thing is, Ginobili isn't a white guy, he's Argentenian
    Seems he's calling black NBA players haters:y4:

      How ironic that an underachieving bum like Rasheed Wallace is talking down on a player. He should concentrate on using his god given talent to actually make some plays instead of always complaining like a child.

              Wow man. You can't come out calling the guy white saying blacks are hating on him for that reason and he's from South America.

                For some if it aint another choice outisde of black white or the occasional spanish descent and if your coplexion is a certain way people dont mind grouping you with a certain group cuase it makes it easier catergorize you.

                I think its some of the thigs that Manu does other than take people off the dribble that aggravates NBA players. the flopping and oout of control drives to the hop where he gets the bail out calls. Bottom Line Manu's coutnries biggest sport is soccer and soccer players may be the most atheletic of all sports. Why would he be boosting on how well Manu is playing if he feels he is the product of his enviorment. Basketball Rule #1 a great post player + plus atheletic guards /with decent range = Derek Fisher getting a multi million dollar deal.

                You dont have to be a super star to put up numbers with arguabaly the best big iin the game right now. Spacing will be easier because the defense has to rotate inside out and that gives the Manus and Parkers of the world easier lanes to drive and more open shots. Are they not good because of that fact can say that but are they superstars because of thier porduction in this system.

                  Sure I know that, you know that, then there are some that wont acknowledge that much. I just thought the Elliot piece was pretty silly stating black players hate good white players, and using the wrong example while he was at it.

                  This isnt necessarily about race as he tried to make it into, but he's acting as if guys are helpless against ginobili and talk bad about him because he is.

                    Manu is white as in color, but he's hispanic as in race. But all that doesn't matter, because he played well these entire playoffs, and did it for his team rather than selfish gain. That's why I like manu a lot. So what if he flops? Do you ever watch the rest of the nba...it's all dirty flopping, grabbing jerseys, getting superstar treatment, and the list goes on.

                    So if you say he flops more than the rest? I think that's because he's been in the spotlight so much recently. I'm sure if another nba player who grabs jerseys often was in the spotlight, you'd be ragging on him.

                      UMMMM...white is not a "race", it's a skin colour.

                      Black is not a "race"...it's a skin colour.

                      Manu is a whitish skinned player in a predominantly dark skinned league. That's what Sean Elliot was implying.

                      'Implying' being the operative word.

                      Honestly...does that even need to be explained...

                      The ironic thing is, the more basketball becomes international...the more "basketball jobs" there are world wide. So, any idiotic "protect our jobs" stuff is just stupid.

                      A guy who may be just "semi NBA" standard can now go to Spain, for example, and earn a million a year to play ball.

                      Guys who are way, way short of NBA standard...can go to Asia and earn a few hundred thousand a year.

                      Excellent money for players who'd otherwise have to get 'real' jobs after college...

                        Re: Sean Elliot talks Ginobili haters

                        People generally associate 'white' with 'Caucasian' using the tern interchangably

                        They do the same with 'black'

                        so don't get all technical....

                        It's just funny that because some players say some stuff bout Manu it has to be because of manu being an international player (that is what SE should have said)...

                        why can't it be because the don't like him taking dives like beckham..like someone said? No one likes a flopper no one...

                          You ever take a survey that has you check boxes marked:

                          hispanic - black
                          hispanic - caucasian

                          It's the difference between a dark-skinned Dominican or a fair-skinned Spaniard.

                            Just about every player in the NBA is a 'flopper' .

                            Ben Wallace is about the toughest guy in the league...but I've seen him go down like a set of bowling pins when a 5'9 guard has run into him.

                            Everyone does it.

                            Some just do it 'better'...ie Bruce Bowen and Vlade have made it an art form.

                              Blacks= Minorites
                              Hispanics= Minorities

                              White= Not Minorities

                              Trust me, I hate the term minorities, but that's what is used. If you're a minority, then it means you aren't "white" per se.

                              This is the way I learned it...Maybe I'm wrong.
