I think them offering their 1st round just to land SAR is silly.

      Agreed.

If I was Portland's GM, I'd be doing cartwheels over to my cellphone to close this deal out. Matter of fact, I'd probably break out the Roger Rabbit or Cabbage Patch.

They said they wanted to get younger and man are they ever doing it.

Portland should be really fun to watch over the next 3-6 years.

Well I listened to the LA radio stream and the guy who broke the news doesn't sound like he knows what he's talking about, so hold off on the rumor.

And I'm not a fan of giving up a first either, but next years draft is supposed to be weak, and NJ has the Clips pick next yr.

I'm just saying I read the other day that there was no way NJ would offer their 1st rounder to land SAR, but who really knows?

Who in the Clips front office did Rod Thorn have to sleep with to land that?

He swindled someone big time. Was it the Kittles deal or did he leave as a FA? How'd they manage to get that one?

Man, draft depth doesn't matter too much when you have a Top 3 slot.

I don't know who in next year's draft is going to be that impressive. Seems like a mediocre class.

Re: Nets finally make offer to Portland for SAR

The Nets are trying to lure the 28-year-old forward with their $4.9 million trade exception, but Blazers general manager John Nash is requesting that New Jersey, his former employer, return a future No. 1 draft pick in addition. The Nets, according to multiple league sources, are unwilling to relinquish one, but have offered a second-round pick. Nash, reached in Las Vegas where the Blazers are taking part in a summer league, said the Nets' trade exception, by itself, is of little value to his team because it remains in a cost-cutting mode. Asbury Park Press

What the Nets want to give, the Blazers don't want, and what the Blazers want, the Nets won't give. So Nets brass, while still placing Shareef Abdur-Rahim atop its power-forward wish list, stepped up a contingency scenario by meeting yesterday in Las Vegas with Memphis free agent Stromile Swift. New York Post

Nets president Rod Thorn, in Las Vegas, had no additional talks with Portland and claimed the situation was "nowhere." While Thorn declined to reveal any particulars of his previous talks, he indicated it would be "fair to say" he would not part with any first-round pick, including a 2007 pick that Blazers GM John Nash indicated could get it done. The Blazers could lose Abdur-Rahim and get nothing in return if he takes a mid-level exception offer. New York Post

                  From the Kenyon trade.

Denver signed Kenyon to the max and still had to give up 3 first round picks. Nets then traded two of those picks to the Raps for VC and held on to the Clips pick next year.

draft picks arent worth a damn anymore unless they are top 5, and the nets have enough talent to beat out a few teams in the lottery the next couple years, what would you rather have

1)Jason Collins as your starting PF and use the pick next year to land some career nba backup

                    or

2)Shareef, a pretty good nba player, a consistent big man with some skills that will add some scoring and rebounding to your starting 5

please let me know next time a someone picks a big man outside top 5 that will play better than Shareef in the league, i dont see it happening for a while, this isnt the nfl where draft picks are essential to winning every year

Although Rahim would fit well with the Nets, they could use someone with a more contrasting style at power forward. Swift, with his shot-blocking ability, could be a better clog. But they need some toughness, otherwise they'll be one of the softest teams in the NBA's history.

I think the Nets would go after someone like Evans since he's a rebounding machine and is physical down low, we could use him to back up SAR.

Really? Hmmm..then i guess TP & Manu selected late 1st Rd & late 2nd Rd aren't worth caca, b/c as you say, unless it's top 5, it's worthless.

It's not so much were you pick, it comes down to your staff/scouting/evauluation skills. If your statement were true the Clippers would have a 14 man roster of ALL-STARS thanks to how many times they selected in the top 5 in previous drafts.

                            You can't have Reggie.
