I think international bball is too young to say.The sport as a whole is pretty young when you think about it. I do consider the globalization of the game as a necessary step for the game itself to continue to grow.

Basketball was a top sport BEFORE MJ hit the scene, and there were several great players that worked damn hard to get it there. We don't revere those accomplishments, but fully expect the next generation to forever worship the fact that MJ made B-Ball popular in China? Not gonna happen, bro.

Bball was pretty popular at its moments before MJ. Im not contesting that. If those early pioneers had not done what they did, we probably wouldnt be watching anything at this very moment. I dont expect the next generation to live in the past, but for the sheer fact that it has failed to capitalize on what was paved before it came along shows me whenever you bring up things done this day and age, even with advancements in things like medicines, weights, increased athleticism etc... it was done better and at a higher level even without those things, and therefore comes short of the standard.

A good portion of the players in the L now wouldnt have made the cut some years ago. Point being, the kids arent forgetting, they have no idea what they're talking about. They'll yell TD>MJ all they want, while they contiune to have their parents were the 169.00 Jordan's, team Jordan's, Carmelo Jordans, etc... asking for them in their video games, and comparing the next young 2 guard to the same one that young man earlier claimed was fading.
I hear you DRE, I just think the bottom line is that the sport is evolving. Not getting better per se, not getting worse either. Simply changing. I think its the height of arrogance to believe that the era we grew up in was, is, and forever shall be...the best era of basketball, on and off the court.

-Your Grandfather, who watched basketball grow from an intramural game to nationally televised events and enjoyed the heyday of completely team-oriented play would disagree...

-Your father, who watched 10 years of epic Wilt vs. Russell battles, watched Pistol pete who had D-Wade handles before they were called "handles", and watched the Doctor introduce the slam dunk shot would disagree...

-your 14 year old brother, who watches LeBron average close to a triple-dub, watches McGrady and Bryant absolutely dominate inside and out, watches T Duncan utilize the most well rounded game in perhaps league history on his way to what could realistically be 7-8 rings, 4 or 5 MVP's would disagree...

-and yes, your little KDRE jr.'s will watch some Argentine kid who can dunk from the top of the circle and dominate the league of the future will disagree.

    Again...Thats just life.

Considering the amount of all time greats that came from the previous era, I'd say that era was greater than now...

To say forever, I didnt say this. I did say the game is still young, and still growing.

One thing I believe not helping the game today is the politics and money involved. Changing the rules and focus, when the game never needed that.

Sure its changing, I do agree... has the NBA changed for the better... I dont know, and dont believe so myself.

You could compare by position, percentage, whatever, but I dont see it. I dont see teams being solid and fundamental from 1-12 anymore.

Now people, kids, old men can disagree all they want, but i want to see proof itself. Dunks, and individual players never really was what the NBA was all abou in the first placet.. thats what it has turned into here. Thats why NBA players now, more skilled than college players who were the former chosen for the olympics are being hammered in the sport that was oft dominated by undergrads

how can u show proof that one era was better than an other? its pretty much subjective.i happen to like this era more than the 90s albeit i started watching seriously in 95. i hated mj , glad when he retired and the bulls stopped dominating. theres only one team i like to see dominating but thats just me.yeah i went a lil off topic .sry.

          Started watching in '95, huh?

          That explains a lot.

Quality of basketball..... thats easy. Can you deny the quality has dipped?

Thats not subjective. It is what it is. As I said, a good portion of players playing now would never have made a team in Magic/Bird-Jordans era

You know this as well as I do. You saw MJ dominate only? You didnt see his team struggle first to get ot where he got? You only saw a part of the story. You didnt even seriously watch, which means you are also missing a large portion of things that happened in basketball over the last 20 years.

Its hard for me to explain that to you if you didnt pay attention until 95.

The # of all time greats is enough for me at the moment. The fundamentals that were embedded in players from #1-12, I mean even until the last guy on the bench. You think Ben Gordon is a sight, but you missed Vinny Johnson.

Look at the shooting percentages dipping... the nba changing the rules of the game to benefit scoring because teams dont score as much. A number of things.

Too many players are drafted now on potential, not because they can play, so to say. Lets be realistic.... Kwame Brown wouldnt have made it... Darius Miles.... HA. You can't even touch an offensive player nowadays, let alone breathe on him without being whistled almost for a flagrant.

I'd love to see some of these guys play against he Bad Boys Pistons. And you think the shooting percentages in the mid 40's are low...

It really annoys me when people try to compare the todays players to Jordan. I had they joy of watching him play his whole career and it will be hard for someone to top him. I still havent seen anyone with the ability to take over a game like he did.

The defense was actually harder when jordan was playing. The NBA changed the rules of the game now to benefit the offense. Jordan would still be lighting teams up in this era.
