This was a good loss for this team, it should show them if they dont play D they will lose simple as that. I like how the team is shaping up. Kobe is looking like his old self, (fresh in the 4th) and lamar seems to be getting it.

I gotta say... its funny how things work out....smush is playing better than those two guys we wanted (DA,AD) and I love it.

All we need is for kwame and Mihm to step up the interior D and we will be fine. So far they look much more promising than last year.

Wow, if they had to lose a game to know that, then Phil isn't doing his job.

Seriously though, good game. Lamar, Kobe and Smush were beastin', it just wasn't there for them tonight. Even though they played well, depth is going to be a problem for these guys all year. I was telling Slymm they remind me of the kings, they'll come out hot with their starting 5, but once its time to go to the bench, thats when the trouble starts and teams will get back in the game.

As far as phoenix goes,, alot of cats weren't sold on this years team. My question is how do you guys think this team, if stoudamire was healthy, would stack up to last years team? This is mainly for the suns fans who've been following them closely (*cough* Matrix).

Of course it is still way too early but he has a good shot and I thought I heard some Pacers people say he shoots better than Miller though they were probably stretching it. Still hopefully he can add to his game and become a very good player. I also think the bench is going to be a lot better this year, which won't be too hard to do.
James Jones while with the Pacers could do more than shoot. He is a decent defender as well because of his athletic ability he could guard forwards and guards. He might struggle guarding the forwards in the West because they are bigger but overall I thought he was a decent defender. Also, I don't think Jones can shoot better than Miller but he can shoot the ball pretty well.

I said it when we traded him that I wish we could have a kept him but money and depth forced the Pacers to make a move and the I think the Suns got a steal in giving up a 2nd round pick to get him. I think the pacers got rid of the wrong Jones as I think I would rather have James Jones over Fred Jones.

The season just started a few days ago and teams have only played 2 games....no way that you can say that after one. Any player can play better then another in a game or 2.

^ what i should say is that he fits well, its not so much the points cause he won't put up 20 a night but this defense and effort out there is great.

I think with the such a high focus on the offense, the players are thinking less about the defensive end. This was a "good" in that it shows them that even if they are clicking on offense (Kobe with 39, Lamar with 23, Smush with 21), if they don't play well on the other end, they are still gonna get beat.

Ah but thats not good. This is the same exact problem they had last year. Chucky was blamed for some of this remember. Alas, they had better figure this out before a tough stretch run.

SD....the Suns without Amare are obviously worse off. I personally would have loved to see another run with the group we had last year, but I love the depth we have now. It's seriously very nice. I love having guys like Raja who can kick *** on both the offensive and defensive ends. I love having Eddie House nailing shots left and right. We sorely lacked a PURE offensive weapon off the bench last year, and we have it this year. I think a starting lineup of Nash, Bell, Marion, Stoudemire, and Thomas would have been lethal, esp. with the depth off the bench, but unfortunately we have to get over the fact that Stoudemire probably wont be with us this year.

I think we can fare well. We showed that our offense wont slip (that bad) and our defense has obviously gotten better (even though we're giving up more points, it's still early, and I can just see a difference).

Atleast guys are actually trying to play D, look at the pressure and trapping that was not there last year... eventually the guys will hit their stride....last year was very different...there was no effort AT ALL.

They are making mistakes now but phil will correct that, it didnt help that PHX was hitting everything last night.

I hope Phil does correct it. THe last thing we need is for him to do with Hamblem did and ignore defense all together. Simply saying "Go Play Hard" is not good enough. We have some good athletes in this starting unit, give them a defensive system and I'm sure they'll come through.

What was mentioned earlier, echo's the words of Tayshaun Prince last year, when they won a game at Staples, and he was asked, whats wrong with the Lakers. "their transition D is bad"

That's one issue I think will eventually hurt this team in the long run, because the depth for that kind of defense isn't there. For an 82 game season, that kind of thing wears a team out unless its a pretty deep team.

With relatively young guys, you have to suspect that it will catch up to them one way or another later on. With that some inside D sure would help, because Mihm is as he always was, a foul prone backup.

I like Smush and Kobe pressuring the ball though... kind of what Mike James and Lindsey Hunter did to opposing teams in DET's run, but they had better interior D and were a much deeper team, so they could afford it.

I do like the guard spots. I'm not sold on Lamar on D, or totally on his jumper being consistent enough yet. Kwame, well, he'll give you nights of, "Now that's how you play!", then others, its like... "i think he's operating on used brains"

Oh and D4K, as I said last year, it would be best if Kobe would be allowed to play on the block, instead of being Mr Everything, trapped on the perimeter trying to adlib moves 3/4 of the game and getting caught passing off of his feet.

Playing in the post opens up so much for this team, just like in the past, which is why Smush and the others can get wide open shots (DFish anyone).
Im not big on predictions because I just dont like doing that, but this team has much more structure and chemistry for the most part than last year.
