That is a very good deal for IND indeed, but ATL would have to be a bonehead to take a risk on Artest. Oh wait, they did sign JJ for a maximum contract so that deal for Artest may just happen.

That cut me deep.. real deep..

I think it would be one or the other (Smith or Childress) packaged with a filler (Delk?).. or Al Harrington straight up for Artest..

Re: For those of you that want Artest

I'm not a GM (but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express for about 40 minutes with my Assistant during lunch yesterday....nevermind)...... but how could any GM in their right mind look at the current state of the ELITE in the NBA (Pistons and Spurs) and not think that chemistry is important to a team's success. Even the teams that have improved.... Bucks, Warriors, Clips... improved chemistry... not necessarily major upgrades in talent.

Artest is an albatross right now. The Pacers would be fools to trade him to any half way decent team in the East. And, I'm not sure who in the West would take such a huge gamble.

I feel for the Pacers. I hope they get a good deal, because I love the rivalry. At least, loved it back when it was pure and about the Basketball and not the sideshow.

Artest is a punk, straight up. Pacers will NOT trade him to a rival, especially new york. You think someone can come out and say "yea, i screwed your season last year, cost you a chance at a title, now im doing it again, so heres what I WANT TO DO."? it aint going to happen. if he wants out, he has to go where the pacers want him. He obviously has the mentality of a 6 year old. This is a job, a career, not some silly school yard game. He says the past haunts him here. HOW COULD HE POSSIBLY SAY THAT! the pacers, fans and media here all of his back, and have stuck through with him for years now. Anyone that can come out and say that has no clue whats going on around him, and will come back and bite him in the end. Go to the raptors or hawks, see how it feels to lose every night. I wouldnt want him on my team in a million years now, as he is willing to leave a championship quality team to go where "the past deosnt haunt him". if anything, its only going to get worse for him, as the pacers where his one spot where he should have felt safe.

It was reported that Babcock would give up BOTH first round picks if he had to. So now it's probably like:

Mo Pete,Graham or Araujo + both first rounders. I'd take that if I was a Pacers fan. As a Raptors fan I'd be wondering how much longer untill the public execution of Babcock.

I think he has issues but to call him a punk is kinda harsh. Don't get me wrong I wouldn't want Artest on my team simply because he's more likely to destroy your franchise but the guy does play hard. I would call him a knucklehead but not a punk.

Sorry, I apologized for my comment. I was a big fan of ATL during the era of Mutombo and Steve Smith, though I find myself cheering on the other side of the fence everytime they face CHI . They have a good young players right now (J. Smith and Childress) and I would not trade them for Artest. JJ for Artest though, but Bird will probably smile and leave the building.

Anyone that stabs you in the back while taking your money is a punk. This guy makes 6-7 million a year, more than we will make in a lifetime, and he has the audacity to turn around and bite the hand that feeds him. Anyone that turns their back on their team that has stuck through to the bitter end with them is a punk. Where else would an entire state, team and organization stick by a guy that went into the crowd of a game and starting jacking people and single handedly destroy your season; only one, Pacers and donnie walsh. Thats why he is a punk, i consider TO more of a team player than ron artest will ever be.

I looked up the report on Lorbek and losing Bonner wouldn't be so bad if he was included since they seem to be somewhat similar players. Just as long as they give away the Denver pick.

Clippers could give up Maggette for him. I almost like that. I didn't want Artest screwing up chemistry but Maggette has missed a lot of games so maybe that wouldn't mess things up.
