What's the point of the Eastern Conference?

Even the best eastern conference teams (76ers, Pacers, Hornets) wouldn't beat these Western Conference teams in the Finals:

    Lakers
    Kings
    Mavs
    Spurs

This is getting to be like the dominance the NFC had over the AFC in the 80s.

Why even bother with the Finals? The Western Conference Finals is going to be what decides the Champs.

Spurs are overrated. Duncan is having an OK season compared to his previous years, and Parker isn't living up to the hype.

And don't count out the Pacers, they're a really deep team with tons of young talent and Mr. Clutch himself.

well nobody is scared of the lakers anymore..So the finals are wide open in my IMO.Until the lakers can show that they are defending champs the west is wide open..And right now the east can hang with any of those teams that you mentioned..NOw if you said that last year or year before i would have agreed...But now...Not so fast..:-)
      It aint my fault!!

Bull**** to the creator of this thread, if Celtics(allthough im not a fan) make it to the finals, they will light it up from the 3 point range.(without coming near shaq lol). There are many excellent teams from the east who can play solid D and great offense, for example Indiana, celtics etc.
Out of those 4 teams, Lakers and Kings are the only ones who can dominate.

Remember that the Bulls won 6 championships in the 90's what was the point of the Western Conference then?

How quickly people forget that the Pistons and Bulls won 8 titles in 10 seasons. Everything goes through cycles......

This thread is funny. Last year, I would have agreed. The east should have just stayed at home and thrown in the towel. I mean, NJ made it to the Finals (no offense to Nets fans). This year, however, the east is looking very respectable. The Pacers, Hornets, Magic (if they ever start playing D), Sixers, Celtics, and the Nets all look pretty good. Even Detroit looks ok.

Look for the east to put up a better fight this year in the finals. They should be able to play more than 4 games. Hopefully.

C'mon man. The Lakers, Blazers, Suns, even Seattle, and Utah were not as sorry as they are now. The L. is pretty watered down, and there aren't any real centers anymore. You have guys like Ben Wallace playing center, when he should be a PF. It wasn't part of a cycle then, it was because of a guy named Jordan that caused hall of famers like Barkley, and Ewing, and Payton from getting championships.

Well it's been Shaq keeping the East teams from getting titles now. It is all about cycles. In 5 years, we might be saying what is the point of the West conference.

The funny thing is that although the East teams are not as great, they still draw tons of fans. Now, can the west say that back in the 90s when they were the butt of the league?? I remember that Forum being quite empty back in the mid-90s

Well thanks for your input pal. Though Ben Wallace hasn't played center all year or last year for that matter. Zeljko Rebraca and Cliff Robinson are the starting centers for Detroit.

Who cares what position Ben Wallace plays, as long as he plays it. The guy works harder than anyone else in the league. He is listed as 6'9'' and is probably only 6'7'' with no 'fro. You're acting like it's the 70's and there are good centers around or something.

                          David Robinson
                          Shaquille O'Neal
                          Michael Olowokandi
                          Zydrunas Illguaskus
                          Brad Miller
                          Todd MacCoullagh
                          Dikembe Mutumbo
                          Elden Campbell
                          Jamaal Magloire
                          Shawn Bradley
                          Vlade Divac

I'd say those are the leagues priemere centers, not too much good stuff in that area. I'd take Ben Wallace over all of them except O'Neal. Ben Wallace can take anyone of them out, even Shaq, when he was our C in 2000, he held Shaq to 19 points, and the Pistons got screwed in OT.

Don't hate on Ben Wallace, he is BY FAR the best Defender in the league and matches up with Centers to Point Guards, I've seen him Guard Baron Davis for half a quarter, and same goes for T-Mac. Ben is the best at what he does, and nobody comes close these days.

Moving on, Detroit has struggled, if they and I think they will get their act together, they are a tough Eastern Conference team, though a couple major things need to happen first. Though as of now we're top 4 or 5 in our Conference.

I still think the east has a go at the championship and that this will be the best eastern confrence playoffs i ever witnessed.
the west will be good also but it will go down to those four teams mentioned at the top. No one else has a chance. The finals are gonna be the same garbage as last year. that was the first time i did'nt even watch a game the whole series. But honestly i dont know whos gonna take it out the west this year.
